The printer works quite well, except for two extremely annoying features: 1) Epson has installed a basically fraudulent feature which decides when you need to replace ink cartridges and will not print when it decides this, even if the printer has been printing perfectly satisfactory dark copies to that point and is likely to continue to do so (and it will not print a black & white document even if the magenta ink cartridge is the only one "requiring replacement") -- planned obsolescence at its worst -- and 2) the scanning feature often forgets the computer it has been set to deliver its output to, even if it has been set up to recognize it and is sitting right next to it, requiring that the set-up procedure be repeated each time that this happens. I would not buy this printer (or any other Epson printer) again. (By the way, Hewlett Packard has installed the same "wont print" features on its printers.) Obviously the sale of ink is where their profit is and they intend to maximize this at the expense of the consumer.

The colored inks run out even though I did not print more than 5 pages of document that has some color in it since I bought it. So I checked the cartridges, took them out one by one. I could hear the ink splashing inside and was also dropping on a paper towel. I put them back and still the printer said no ink left. What the heck? Now I should just throw out those inks and order new one for $50?

I like the printing quality. It has much detail and great color that I really desire. The only thing I didnt realize that the ink it requires is very exprensive. If only I could find cheaper ink that would work. I tried LD ink but the printer rejected it. Would be happy to find ink that would work so it would be so costly to operate the printer.

I purchased this to use with a lovely new iMac. I have had nothing but frustration trying to use this Epson for my work, which involves using both the print and the scan function. The print function works fine, but the scanner is ALWAYS a problem. When attempting to scan, the Epson gives a "not connected to computer" message, it will print so it is OBVIOUSLY connected to the computer. I have updated and reinstalled and updated and reinstalled and updated again. It worked fine last week, but today, with a deadline looming, NOTHING. I am not a techie person, but I know enough that it is a failure on the part of EPSON to keep up with the Apple OS. WTF. Is this a problem with ALL Epson scanners? What is a good replacement? I am ready to throw this out of my window.

Epson America is OUT OF THE XL INK as of 6-14-17 for this printer. Quote Epson, "The Epson Store has sold out of our remaining stock on this product. We have not been provided with a date as to when we will be receiving another shipment of this item." Now I ask, how can the manufacturer be out of ink for its own printer??? It can still be found elsewhere for a hefty markup. Gouging?? My printer, the XP-960 has only been available on Amazon for less than two years and now the manufacturer (EPSON) cant supply ink for it?? I see by other reviewers here going back to May 2017 Epson has been out of ink for a while now. This printer replaced 3 older model Epson Stylus 960 models which were great printers for my office. After Windows XP, Epson wouldnt supply drivers and neither would Microsoft so they just became landfill items. What a shame because they were much better than the new XP-960 producing more vivid prints even in draft mode.

The print makes good prints... usually. I often find that this prints streaks and smears inks on the pages and I cannot find the reason why. The wiper is clean, the rollers are clean, the printer is still fairly new. Another issue is the paper waste, when a cartridge runs out it spits the unfinshed page out and asks for a new cartridge. When you replace the cartridge, it finishes on a new sheet causing you to waste two sheets of paper. The cartridges are a joke. You replace one, it does a cleaning/priming, then it empties another cartridge doing it. You end up in a cycle where you empty other cartridges by replacing them. The firmware is absolutely STUPID. Everything you do is overly complicated by a wall of dialogs and options. By default the colors on photos are actually really bad, I had to make custom profiles to get the best colors out and even then dark blues look purple. The printer is good when it works, but the effort involved in babysitting it is absolutely not worth it. You can get better printers on sale.

Im a photographer and was interested in both an everyday printer and a photo printer--this is both. Ive only had it for a few days, but I printed some photos on beautiful Epson Hot Press Natural Paper and they look great, especially for such an inexpensive printer. I chose the preset for Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper and selected the option for thick paper to ensure it handled the paper without any issues.

I am a graphic designer and I am constantly printing. I have owned other brands before and none of them compare to an Epson. I sill have an Epson from 10 years ago in my office that works great. This one prints 11x17 which I sometimes need so I decided to give it a go. I couldnt be more pleased. You can print wirelessly, from your iPad, cell phone, etc. Its pretty compact for being able to print 11x17. I just love it! Thumbs up!

Cons: It was recommended by an online art community and I have been using it for art prints. The ink is costly and the colors are not always accurate (even if it is a simple palette). In reviews people have said that it will print on heavier papers. Sometimes it will, other times it wont without warning. Only 1 in 5 prints are salvageable due to poor color quality, print quality or feed issues. I use it about once a week and it feels like there is always an issue that delays printing for 30 minutes to a few hours. I would love to return but it is too late. Pros: I have been able to scan some paintings. Make sure you adjust the resolution before you scan.

This is a great printer so far. I love that it has a footprint that is barely bigger than your average entry level inkjet but it will do 11x17. I am excited to do some large photo prints on this bad boy. I had no idea that the screen and the paper tray were motorized.I geeked out a bit when the screen pivoted up and the tray extended. Setup was easy and I have had no issues with wireless printing or scanning from windows or android. Do yourself a favor and spend the $10-15 for a ream of premium bright white inkjet paper. I did my first couple prints on $3 multipurpose copy paper and the ink absorbed in and was faded and blah. On the premium paper its bright and laser sharp. I cant wait to see what it will do on proper matte or gloss photo paper, especially once I get the profiles dialed in. The feed tray is a little small and the per page speed isnt anything to brag about but this isnt intended to be a volume printer so I dont feel like thats a minus. The ink is dye and not pigment like on the high end HP printers but on Epson photo paper they say it is fast-drying, moisture resistant and 70 years color-fast. I remember old photo prints would get sticky against glass in a frame or fade quickly but this seems like it should have lasting quality up to the level of my needs.Very pleased so far.
