I really loved this printer, until it came time to replace a toner cartridge. A set of 4 genuine Xerox high-yield replacement toner cartridges can easily cost you more than the price of the C405/DN printer, so I looked for a good generic compatible cartridge brand. Long story short - generics wont work in this printer. I received this printer new less than two weeks ago from Amazon. I had a large color print job that burned through one of the toner colors in a couple of days, so I ordered a set of 4 generic compatible toner cartridges. When I inserted the replacement cartridge, I got a Toner Fault error. I assumed it was a bad brand, since there were no reviews yet on Amazon. So, I ordered another brand that had good reviews on Amazon and reportedly worked with this printer. When I inserted that cartridge, I got the same result - Toner Fault. After several correspondences with the toner vendor, I reached out to Amazon today for support, who got Xerox technical support on the phone. The Xerox tech towed the company line, insisting that they only support genuine Xerox toner cartridges. This printer was recently manufactured by Xerox (March 2018) with the latest March 1, 2018 version of the firmware. I suspect that Xerox has clamped down on the use of non-genuine toner cartridges in the latest version of their firmware, causing the Toner Fault error to be issued, although the Xerox tech would not confirm that. Xerox does not post earlier versions of the firmware on their site, and the tech said the only way I could get that was through an in-person service call. This experience has left me feeling angry at Xerox, if in fact they have altered their product firmware to forbid usage of generic toner cartridges. This is a huge step that will seriously alter the operating costs for anyone planning to use generic toner cartridges. Ive returned this printer to Amazon, and I dont plan to ever buy another Xerox product! This really is an outstanding printer, but be prepared to pay for genuine Xerox toner cartridges.

Such an excellent printer, since its release Xerox has released firmware/new easy install drivers and it is so easy to setup now. USB Scanning from PC has been added in the latest firmware as well. This machine cranks and never complains about it. The quality is excellent with 600x600 DPI 8 Bit-Depth (Most printers are 1 Bit). With the 8-Bit Depth you get the actual color in graphics and pictures instead of the printer just creating an illusion to trick your eyes. (8 Bit-Depth means instead of toner or no toner it can create shades of each color on each dot up to 256 different shades of each color, which makes it equivalent or better then much higher resolution printers.) I have had it for a year and leave it on standby and it has not once failed to print/scan. Once it is setup it does what it was created to do. Scanning to email can be difficult to setup but that was more on Gmails end then the printer. With Gmail you have to disable their stupid security that thinks the printer is trying to hack the account (I just created an email address for the printer). I have put 5k pages of HP Premium Paper and have not had a single jam. I would greatly recommend this printer for home or office use. Its higher end for home use but look at it this way, this thing is built to last and it will always be there to print for you. The WIFI adapter is a separate purchase so keep that in mind if you do decide to purchase. In the future I will be looking for the successor to this printer, Ive used HP, Samsung and Brother laser printers and this puts em all to shame. Id expect nothing less from the company that invented laser printing.

Im not one to write reviews. But I need to voice my frustration with Xerox. I run a 1500 person company, with 110 locations. Each location has 2 printers. We bought about 10x of these printers to test to see if we would switch the whole company over. NOPE! Its not the printer. Yes, we had some break. But printers break. There are moving and replaceable parts. It happens. Its Xeroxs support. We have receipts for each printer. When we call Xerox for support, they tell us its out of warranty. Its like the warranty starts when its shipped from their factory to Amazon. So their 1 year support is actually like 8-10 months support. Its enraging. We bought the 4 year extended support with Square Trade. Because they know the product was purchased less than a year ago, they wont honor the warranty replacement either. Xerox lost out on, at least, 250 MFC sales because their warranty is dishonest at best.

I spent almost $800 on this printer and have not even had it 6 months and it never works right. Straight out of the box it had issues finding the internet, (which it is a business, so we have a properly installed, very expensive server) so we ended up hard wiring it to Ethernet. Right then I should have sent it back. The problems have been non stop since this. The printer keeps having a "device fault." We sent it to a tech in the area and spent $300 on a replacement part that it needs every 25,000 pages printed or so....and now that it is "fixed" the device fault is back with a new issue. Overall this has been the biggest piece of junk I have purchased from amazon and I see that I am not alone. There are a lot of 5 star reviews, but I guarantee you they did not use this commercially like it is advertised to be used. And maybe they didnt even use it at all before reviewing the product. I wish this had a warranty, but of course they would never make any money offering a guarantee from a product they know is garbage! :( Dont be fooled like I was!

The description specifies that it is wireless but when I received it I noticed that I needed to buy a wireless adapter to make it work. Deceiving practices or description...

The printer has been completely overshadowed by the extreme difficulty to install the printer on a modern up to date computer. Based on the previous reviews I signed up the have the Amazon Installation service do the install. Although a sharp technician, even with the Xerox support on the phone it could not be installed. I still have error messages on the printer and can not do wireless printing. I would not recommend this as anything has to be better. Xerox does not appear to support small businesses or at least this product. BTW, the printer might be okay, just cant tell as yet.

opened the box and unpacked it, plugged it in and installed the software from the CD and Voila, worked like a charm first time on my laptop running MAC IOS and printing a Word document then tried my wifes and nothing, checked a few settings in the system preferences and again, no problem, then tried the Duplex print and after adjusting the settings for the document it printed the duplex color documents we needed. This seems to be a well built and consumer ready device that we will use for many years. Still have an old Brother Ink Jet that is about 13 years old and it still works but we needed the duplex high quality laser printing now which the Xerox will provide.

Out of the box the ADF did not work right. Xerox sent a new ADF after a few phone calls. The repairman came and installed a new pickup roller. It helped for a couple hundred pages. It picks a few single pages, then grabs a few pages at a time and paper jams. Very frustrating. It prints very nice. The scan feature is a lot slower on the ADF (when it works), than I was hoping for. I am trying to scan a lot of documents tonight, and I have to rescan the same documents frequently. Some scan jobs it works fine, but I am estimating that my average scan packet is about 40-50 pages and some times it jams on page 10 and some times on page 39, you just never know. Then, you delete the job and start all over. Xerox service is closed it is 9 pm and they will be getting a call again tomorrow. Hopefully the repair tech kept the ADF and didnt send it back to Xerox. While he was here, the ADF was working, but we didnt scan that many documents. I have cleaned the pick up rollers a few times. Also, the ADF pulls documents through crooked

Ive had this printer for about a year now and have not had to purchase a toner cartridge yet. It is used for heavy home use or light commercial use as I do work from home and have started a contract using it. Print quality is good (inkjets are still better for pictures), scanning and copying is excellent. The fax capability has come in handy on occasion (its surprising who uses faxes these days). Fairly easy to set up and print from the network. Both sons have visited and set up their laptops to use it in just a few minutes. The feeder has only jammed when I tried to scan something with very thin paper, but recovery was easy and it didnt tear the original.

This is a decent printer, super easy set-up, good features, construction seems average to above. Print speed is great, print quality is mediocre, cost to operate is CRAZY HIGH. The current production models of this machine will not accept non-OEM toner cartridges so you WILL pay 0.16-0.17 per color copy and you will only use genuine Xerox supplies. Xerox came so close to exactly what I want with this but really fell short in the end. I like it, I kept it but for use in my office and as a back up for the office printer but I would not re-purchase or recommend this machine.
