Weve gone through so many AIO inkjet printers from Canon and Epson over the years, replacing them every 2 years or so. Ink costs were ridiculous. So, I set out to try to find a color printer that would last a bit longer, had copy and scanning functionality (but didnt need fax capabilities), whose ink (or toner in this case) would last a little longer and potentially cost a bit less (no need to clean heads or worry about clogged ink), work wirelessly on my home network, and whose print quality wouldnt initiate complaints from the rest of the family. I believe I found what I was looking for in this unit. Were about a week into using this printer and while I cant report on the durability, I can say that it was super easy to set up and the print quality is very good - much better than any of our previous inkjets.

This printer does everything it claims to do. I have Apple Phones, ipads, and computers in my household and it prints from and scans to them all. Good color for document printing which is what I need it for. Probably would not be good for photo printing. The Brother gives relatively fast, efficient, quiet printing process and is easy to setup to home Wifi network. Double sided printing really works. I am still on my initial ink cartridges after 2 months of regular usage and they are still displaying as being full. I would have replaced the ink cartridges in my old HP inkjetPro printer 4-5 times by now.

I purchased this printer just under two years ago. It is used mainly for home office projects. In fact it takes six months for our toner to be replaced. The printer worked fine for our needs and for the price up until a couple months ago. I began noticing cut marks in my paper. After calling Brother tech. support, I discovered that the plastic on the roller part had broken and the metal part it was sealing was puncturing the paper as it was being printed. The cost to repair the part is over $180. The machine is only two years old. I am 11 months out of my warranty. The only reason I gave any stars at all is because the quality of the printing was good, otherwise I would have given one star for the fact that it showed a defect at such a young age. Unfortunately, Brother would not provide any recourse. So Im disappointed in the service aspect as well.

I needed to upgrade our inkjet printer so that I could stop spending so much money on ink. I thought this laser printer was a perfect price point for being able to print/copy/scan so many more copies then I could with the inkjet. It does the trick while having the color option but without being too fancy. Bonus is that it can connect to wifi for mobile printing, which is huge since I do so much more on my iPad then my desktop where it is connected via cable. It comes with starter toner and I also purchased a box of replacement toner to have it in the ready. I expect this will last me a full year of printing out tons of stuff for our homeschool without worry of having to pause a project to run and buy. The start up is slightly slower then our old inkjet. There is a pause of 20 seconds or so before it starts to print. But WOW does it print fast!!! Print quality is really good too! It holds a ton of paper so I dont have to have so much sitting out waiting to be fed into the slot. My biggest problem that I found is that it simply cannot handle double sided with thicker paper. We use a lot of cardstock and my first attempt at making phonics booklets for my kindergartener was a loss. In order to print double sided on cardstock, before manually flipping for the other side you must pull out your paper...flatten it completely, then retry for back side. Its an extra annoying step but was happy to finally get it to work with cardstock this way. The printer is BIG and HEAVY and you will need to make sure you have space for it. Also, set up was a bit cumbersome but in the end everything went as it should. The fact that this printer does EXACTLY what we needed for home use and was a full $100 dollars cheaper then another Brother Laser that had the exact same specifications makes this a FANTASTIC purchase!

Perfect for photos inserted into letters - see pic of first 3 prints I made with the HL-3180CDW. Photo resolution lines acceptable. Easily meets colored graph expectations for reports. Prints faster in color than my old B&W laser printer so exceeds my expectations. I found the color of photos richer/deeper on regular paper. My photo gloss paper is old so that could be a factor prints did not look better (but I expect more it has to do with dry toner process + melting dry toner onto paper. In all 3 photos I used the highest rez allowed and photo quality settings. Not shown is a regular 600x600 rez photo - I found it totally acceptable for my photo document needs Printer need firmware update and driver updates with is well documented but takes some time. I use a metered internet connection to prevent some software from updating and this needed to be turned off for these updates.

My ancient HP LaserJet 2840 laser printer/scanner expired after a decade of service and, not having been in the printer market for a while, I prepared myself to bite the bullet and shell out the big bucks for a replacement. As a technical writer I need performance, duplex printing (both sides of the page), ability to print card stock for business cards, and high-quality color. This little charmer (half the size of my HP) gave me all of the above. And, because in standby mode it uses only a watt a hour, I just leave it on all the time. Its quiet, prints quickly, almost never jams, and its single-feed slot works for envelopes (created with MS Word). It will print card stock direct from the paper tray -- something that would jam my HP. And its toner is substantially cheaper than HPs and the cartridges are easier to install. My little Brother has some very sophisticated features I probably wont use but I know they work. For example, it will printer from other computers on my WiFi network, even from my iPhone and iPad, wirelessly. After four months of fairly intensive use I could not be happier with my Brother printer. The name might not be familiar to you but these guys have been making printers for a long time. At this bargain price, Im highly impressed by the quality and functionality of this printer. Oh, and it works great as a scanner and copier too! It has its own rather kludgy scanner software, but I get best results using MS Paint, which I believe comes free with Windows 10. Using Paint it will scan up to 1200 dpi with brightness and contrast pre-scanning adjustments. Excellent performance and value!

Worked great until i was forced into their firmware update. Now wont stay connected to wifi for more than a minute. Then while it says it cant connect, even though password is right and network is visible, what you tried to print will come out,all while it still says it cant connect. Going to get rid of it, its not worth the trouble.

Print quality is as expected. Its good enough for everyday printing for personal use, but if I needed something with a strong, solid presentation, say for business, etc, Id still have to run to the copy store. It also takes a while from the moment you click "print" to when it actually fires up the printer, up to a minute or two sometimes. This could be my WiFi though as Ive never really been in enough of a hurry to warrant investigating the cause of the slow transmission to the printer. The printer has print, copy, and scan capabilities. This doesnt have a feed tray, so scanning and copying gets a little annoying if you have more than one page in your document. But I knew this going in, this was my trade off for getting a cheaper printer. If you know you will be dealing with multiple page documents a lot, then it will be worth paying a little more for the next model up that had a document feed tray. This is fine for my purposes. The software, Brother control center, used for scanning, was a pain to set up. I have a Mac and it took forever for me to find the right download. You need to download the driver for scanning, for this model on the Mac. The software is included in that package. Thats the only place you can find the software even though it makes no mention of it in the download! It took me a while to notice the drop-down to change from Windows to Mac downloads too....maybe thats just me being dense! Anyway, once setup, its a breeze and self explanatory to use. I love that this thing is a WiFi printer. I can be on the other side of the house and send things to the printer anytime. Of course, I still need to truck myself down there to pick up the print out, but maybe one day theyll come up with a solution for that too!

After a short run with my most recent ink jet printer purchase (a little over 3 years with the Canon Office and Business MX922 All-in-one Printer, Wireless and mobile printing ) I finally decided that its about time to try out a Laser printer and that I would "go big or go home". Well, since I was already at home, I figured i would go big anyways, and settled on the Brother Wireless Digital Color Laser Printer. So far, Im impressed with what I got. The Brother Laser Printer prints out pages perfectly, and with speed that my inkjets never could muster. In terms of size, this unit is definitely not a little desktop printer to share with your PC/Mac/Laptop/etc. This unit can hold almost a full ream of paper in it, and it houses these huge ink cartridges totally unlike the little inkjet packs. Prints come out very quickly in this unit, and all the prints are crisp and perfectly colored. There are no visible streaking, horizontal printing line, or any imperfections that I can see on the prints. This unit auto duplexes, so I dont have to baby sit it when printing items on both sides of a page, and this unit can scan/copy pages easily. One thing I do miss on this unit that was available on the inkjet 3-in-1 is the auto feed for the scanner. This isnt a huge issue for our household as we dont need to scan multiple page documents all too often, but keep this in mind if you do need to scan items frequently. For those who need to utilize the fax functions, this printer also doesnt have that feature. Again, we didnt need it in our household, so we didnt miss it. Maintenance of this minimal - simply change out the cartridges when they run out, and maybe occasionally run the printer maintenance function. If you dont print for some time, you dont have to worry about ink jet nozzles clogging up, and you dont have to worry about shutting off the printer because it goes into sleep mode perfectly. This printer hooked up easily to the wireless and stays connected well, and Im also able to print off my iPad and iPhones without issues - this is something I struggled with constantly with my older printer, and those functions alone make it totally worth the cost. The printer works very quickly and quietly, and getting to work with the many computers (both PC and Mac) was seamless. I cant say anything regarding the longevity of this printer as of yet, but Im expecting that it lasts longer than 3 years simply because it seems to be very durable and well built. Overall, Im very pleased with the Brother Digital Color Printer. Its fast, quiet, and the prints that come out of this unit are clean, bold, and bright.

This printer arrived today and I was initially a little bit concerned since the box was wet and falling apart. I suspect that was a shipping issue but I accepted the package anyway. As it turns out, there was no problem. The printer was well-wrapped in plastic and had no issues. Setup was fairly easy overall. I did have to create an exception on the firewall on my Mac to be able to scan from the printer and send it to the computer. But Brother seems to support Macs well, unlike Dell who as far as I can tell, ignores Macs for the most part. Print quality is excellent and both my wife and I were quite impressed. If this printer lasts as long as our black-and-white Lexmark laser printer (ten years + and still working fine) we will be more than impressed and very happy. Highly recommended. Revised: First of all, the Brother printer cartridges cost more than the printer itself. We tried some cartridges from other manufacturers but none of them lasted more than a few months. Lately, the printer jams regularly. We have a black-and-white Lexmark laser printer as well and it has been working flawlessly for over ten years. We made a mistake buying a Brother printer and we will never buy another one again. Update: Now it comes up with error message every few days requiring us to move the tabs on the drum back and forth before it will print. Unbelievable! I will never buy another Brother product again! Update: The error message now occurs several times a day. This besides the fact that the cartridges cost nearly as much as the printer itself! A complete ripoff! Do not buy a Brother printer. Update: An excellent paperweight, nothing more. Buy this printer and you will forever regret it. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Do NOT buy a BROTHER PRINTER!
