This could have easily been a 1 star review if I hadnt called support and updated the Firmware to run on Mac OSX 10.11.3 (El Capitan). The old firmware has issues with dual band wireless routers. Before calling support, I was able to set up the printer and get it to print wirelessly, but it would go into sleep mode and then Id have to go upstairs, turn the thing off, and then back on again before it could receive data. I tried online guides to fix the issue, but eventually gave up and called support. At first I thought I was in trouble based on the initial "get your personal info" part of the call, but then was transferred over to their software department, and the fellow there was knowledgable. It took a half hour to install the firmware, and then we were up and running without a hitch. It prints from Apple phones and tablets (requires a simple app download) and prints wirelessly from the multiple Mac laptops in our house. We dont have a Chromebook and so didnt set up the cloud print feature. Mostly Im posting this review so that other people can speed up the process. I was unable to find reasonable guides on troubleshooting by searching "Brother MFC L2727DW wake from sleep mode," "turn off sleep mode," and similar searches, so tech support sent me the online guides. Our old household workhouse Brother laser gave up the ghost. We also have a Canon multifunction inkjet printer, but the operating costs on that thing can be prohibitive. We decided to go "multifunction" in the B&W laser world. This thing is pretty much perfect. Setup is easy. I just followed directions (for once in my life). Copying, scanning, and printing work like a charm. As does faxing, which does still come in handy on occasion. Receiving a fax on this machine is easy. We were never able to get the Canon to do that. It has a small footprint which enabled us to put it on the upstairs computer desk, freeing up some other flat space for other uses. Wireless network connectivity could not have been easier. Setting it up to run on the other network computers in the house was likewise easy. My only complaint: The toner cartridge sent with the printer had a woeful capacity. I knew it wouldnt be high capacity, but this was awful. This wasnt enough to drop my rating, but a little warning would have been appreciated.

We had a dead inkjet printer and my wife is a teacher, so this wasnt going to fly having no printer in the house.. After doing a lot of research I well on this printer. I did not need duplex scan (plus I read repeatedly that the back side "bleeds" though anyway) but I did want some of the apps etc. Turns out I probably wont actually use the apps.. I was hoping that there was a magic update that has direct scan to email but no; scan to FTP is the best I can do with the printer. But thats okay, I scan to the ftp server on the local computer which automatically populates my Dropbox folder so its just fine. Warms up fast, prints fast, and were on probably 200 pages, including some photos the kid printed with a ton of black, with the shipped cartridge. I expected it to be empty before now, so thats a plus. Color scans look quite decent, copies work great, ADF seems to work fine, etc.. I would probably not suggest this for any kind of large office but small/home office, its great.

I waited before posting this review so I could have some time to use this multifunction printer. So far I have used it to copy, print wirelessly, fax single and multiple sheets as well as fax directly from MS Word. I have not had any problems with these processes excepting and occasional delay in transmission which appears to be more of a WiFi/Router issue than caused by the machine. Installing software, linking to computers, etc. was essentially painless. Overall, I am as pleased with this Brother machine as I was with what it replaced... another larger Brother MFC that lasted 11 + years! Wireless makes it even better. A word of caution... the included toner cartridge lasts only long enough for you to order another so I am glad I already purchased the high capacity refill.

Vista OS and a PC without a built-in wireless router, I had to use the installation disc provided and it required two attempts. I also had to use an Ethernet (provided) or USB cable (I had on hand) to get it to work. I blame these issues on my old PC and lack of ambition to use the wireless function, not the software or the printer. That being said, this printer is a charm to work with, especially if you are moving up from an inkjet to a laser jet. I had to set my default print options to duplex through printer properties, otherwise I had to select it each time I printed. This wasnt an automatic update when the printer installed. Fast and clear printing and the copy/scan quality is great. The on-board touch screen is a wonderful convenience. I have yet to try printing from either of our androids or other wireless devices so I cant speak to that function yet. I will certainly update this review if I come across any issues. For our small business, we are very happy with the purchase.

This is my third Brother printer (along with several AIOs Ive used in various workplaces). Compared to an older machine, this Brother has a small color touchscreen that is a huge improvement on the two-line LCD matrix display, and it is much quieter. It still uses the two-part consumable cartridge system (separate toner and drum), to which Ive become accustomed. A new user might be a little befuddled by nesting the toner cartridge into the drum cartridge on first installation. Imaging quality remains very good, and for most tasks the imaging engine is very fast. Duplexing on this machine does not add appreciable time to page output, as Brother seems to have eliminated the maddening pauses between side A and side B. On a Mac OS X machine, the printer driver supports all functions of the printer. Networking is another story. I wanted to hang this machine on my Ethernet network. After weeks of troubleshooting non-responsive print jobs and weird results, it appears that the Ethernet interface does not always respond to "Wake on LAN" requests. It also appears that the interface does not sync properly to the network. I finally abandoned Ethernet and switched to WiFi, which works flawlessly and fast. I would have preferred to keep the printer off the wireless network, on principle (in my mind, its a fixed utility, not a mobile device, and should be networked as such). Oh, well. Consumables are relatively inexpensive for OEM, and really inexpensive if you use a third party cartridge. Look for one that is compatible, not remanufactured.

I have owned many Brother all in one laser printers and all have been great. Right now I have 4 of them total. This is the only one of this model. The others are the previous model and working fine in our busy office. This one is in my home office and this one is terrible! The auto feeder works at best half of the time and makes a very loud noise when it misfeeds or it does not even pick up the page in the auto feeder even thought the screen says it is ready and it again makes the loud noise. The fax only randomly receives but gives no error messages to give you any idea what the issue is. I cannot send a fax out either. The touch pad when you select copy it easily changes the copy number without intentionally changing it. It was too late to send it back as there was only about a month for that. I have been fighting with it since March this year but never had time to deal with it. Today was the last straw. When you try and print wirelessly to it there is anywhere from about a 30 second to a few minute delay before it starts to print. It really sucks! Dont buy it. It has some gremlin in this model. Mine is going in the garbage!

This printer is truly awesome. Its just insanely annoying that it times out so quickly between printing. It basically defeats the purpose of having Wi-Fi because you have to go turn the printer on and off manually every single time you want to print. It times out within about a minute. Maybe 2. If someone knows how to change this, Id love to know.

Two issues: 1) It will print double-sided but it wont scan double-sided, meaning the document feeder is useless if youre scanning a two-sided document, and you have to flatbed scan each page. This is an incredible hassle, especially since Apples scanner interface is not the greatest. 2) If you use an Airport Extreme base station to connect to the internet, and something goes wrong with the base station, the solution might subsequently cause problems with the printer. I was having a problem with my base station and once I fixed it, the printer would disconnect from the wifi as soon as it went into "sleep mode," meaning every time I had to print something, I had to reconnect it to the wifi. If I had to print multiple documents in a day, with more than a minute or so in between each one, it became really annoying. I spent a lot of time trying to fix the printer, but ended up solving it by resetting the base station. Theres a compatibility issue there that should be addressed. Otherwise its good quality and Ive never had a problem with the printer in itself.

I can’t describe my frustration with this piece of junk, but I’ll try. I bought this to combine the use of two other printers and get away from ink. I should have bought the HP. The scanner function is crap, plain and simple. I have to scan documents 5-10 times to get it to work most times. It will scan all pages but only shows the first on most try’s. The scanner fails to communicate most days and has to be reset, unplugged, rebooted, reinstall the software and everything else it says to do to make it work again. The scanner function only works if you are hardwired and jot over WiFi, which is dumb seeing that everything else works over WiFi. The wireless function works great, except I have to reconnect with it every time I want to print a page off my phone, stupid. Setting this thing up and changing defaults takes an act of congress and we all know how well that works. I should have bought the HP. I had to give this thing 1 star, it is so bad, it wouldn’t let me select zero. Buy the HP, this one is junk.
Make sure this fitsby entering your model number. Upon activation, the Amazon Dash Replenishment service measures the toner level and automatically orders toner from Amazon when low.
