I bought the 9330CDW via Amazon on 1-Aug-2014. I like the printer. I have used it primarily to print, but also to copy, scan and sometimes fax. Print quality is good, speed is good. The printer seems first rate. The printer deserves 4 or 5 stars, but Brother engineering (or perhaps Brother management ethics) deserves -5 stars (negative 5), so I averaged it out and am giving 1 star. I print a lot and need to replace toner often. Toner is expensive and I only buy new Brother toner cartridges. Here is the problem: Each time the toner gets low, the printer warns me. That is nice. Then the printer gets to the point that it declares the toner depleted and the printer stops working. I know from experience that there is plenty of toner left. I used this link from a customer review to reset my 9330CDW to think the toner cartridges are fine. The link is ---> http://www.amazon.com/review/R21X5O6QYB4IFQ/ref=cm_cr_dp_title?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B00DJG8D88&nodeID=172282&store=electronics After resetting the printer to "think the toner is new", I get hundreds of perfectly printed pages before the toner cartridge really runs out of toner. So I ask you. Can Brother not determine how much toner is really left in their own cartridges? Or is Brother only interested in selling more toner? Makes me mad. So I wrote this review.

Toner management system falsely reports toner depletion as a ploy to sell more toner. The system works by a page counter system that reports the toner cartridge is deplete, even when no toner has been used. The printer stops working when this occurs. This mechanism intentionally violates the customer promise of the laser printer as an affordable printing method. From a cost per page, the initial toner cartridges print less than 500 pages; since the replacement toner cartridges cost $200, so the apparent print cost per page is over $.40 per page. My initial prints were black shipping labels - and all of the toner cartridges, yellow, cyan, magenta, and black report empty. Deception: "Brother designed the MFC-9330CDW to help small businesses save money when printing." from the product description page. The initial math of $.40 per page is about 4x the price of local printing, at $.11 per page. The printer is ecologically abhorrent. The volume of solid waste as spent toner cartridges approximately equals the volume of paper used. While it is supposedly possible to hack the cartridges to access their actual capacity - this is an offensive expectation for any product. Why should I have to reverse engineer Brothers toner cartridges to get the value I paid for? This is my second Brother printer, the last one had a mechanical gear system and a light sensor which also falsely reported toner depletion. After I hacked the cartridges, I got about 2 years of use out of the cartridges. Print quality fades when the cartridges deplete. I bought an upgrade thinking there was NO WAY a reputable company could or perpetuate a deception like this on its customers - and me again! Well I was wrong. This time Im speaking out after being intentionally deceived the second time. Brother is good printer - by a crappy company. If you dont want to spend hours figuring out how to repair the brain-damage they engineer into their print counters, write Brother off your list. They have an institutional culture of customer deception which by my personal experience spans at least 7 years. They do not respect their customer, or the environment enough to resist the temptation of deception. Next day amendment.... As a courtesy this review was submitted to Brother support. The simple concept is professional respect. If you are speaking adversely about a product which may affect someones reputation - dont be a chicken and do it openly. Printer works well enough, but color photos are sub par. All in all about what I expected when I bought it back in 2013/2014. However I am now on my third fuser. My guess is they are overheating causing a plastic wrap on a roller to tear which first results in an embossed pattern on the paper as it go through. After a bit more use you start seeing little red/rust colored flakes coming out on your pages. This is the adjacent roller getting trashed by the first problem (I think). On the first failure (2014) I took it to the local service rep (very close to me) and the problem was fixed for free, but took a couple weeks for them to get the part in. On the second failure (2/2015) I called in and they sent me a re-manufactured unit (2 day ship). I simply had to move the various components (toners, etc) from the broken unit over to the re-manufactured unit. Now, (2/2016 with 8400 pages) it has occurred again. Called and this time they wanted to send a repair technician to my home, but decided they couldnt do that after they determined firmware updates were failing. So another re-manufactured machine is on its way. Kudos to their support department. If they could only create a new fuser that lasts it would be an excellent product.

Ok, probably no one is going to read this review and its not going to be the best or even that good anyway. If you happen to read it and find it helpful please click like. I just got my second of this machine, not because the first one failed.. its still running strong. I got the same one for my office as the one I have had in my home office for 4 months. I love this machine, I have always had good luck with brothers but this machine is awesome. No, its not meant for photos per say, but for a business machine its great (I am a real estate agent) Thank you Brother for a fine product and a great price.

This printer is a dirt bag. It jams constantly, it smears paper it is printing and leaves specs of other colors. It has a manual feed for envelopes, card stock and such....but why? It only takes the item about 10% of the time and quite frankly I am being generous with 10%! It has quit faxing. Checked the settings. It just doesnt want to. 2 sided copies? A great idea in theory and what a convenience....ha! If you want to open every single door on this thing to dig the paper out, well then sure. The wifi printing doesnt work either! I have to use a cable. This printer doesnt like me. It is my second one too. I have begun talking to the printer before I use it. I speak gentle like and rub it. I also keep a rosary at my desk, as a few Hail Marys are usually in order. I wouldnt wish this piece of crap on any one. I should probably take it out back, shoot it and give it a proper burial. I highly do not recommend. If brother wants my review gone, they can send me a shipping label and a refund. Id be glad to send it back, and even more glad to have my $300+ back. Oh.....ps. The toner cartridges it came with were empty. Nice! This printer has caused me a lot of stress and sadness. All I ask it to do is what it is supposed to do. Print.

This is a strange model as it does not have dual sided scan and otherwise it is exactly the same as the MFC9340CDW at the similar price point. Im not sure what Brother was thinking when they released this model but I dont expect that it will be available much longer. I bought this one and regret it every day we scan our boys homework to Google Drive. It is a great printer but why buy it when Brother has this same great printer with a dual page scanner for the same or similar price.

I just received my printer hours ago (replacing a bad ink jet), so here are my first impressions... My biggest concern with this printer was the photo quality, so I will start my review there. I certainly agree that this is NOT a photo printer. You will not be printing out pictures and hanging them on the wall. The quality reminds me of the first ink jet printers that ever came out... not a photo, but sufficient enough for basic needs. But unlike any ink jet, the paper is not "wet" and curled up. Next, I printed a Word document with a detailed graphic, and THIS is why you are spending the extra money. Holy cow was the quality amazing. There is no way ANY ink jet can reach this qualiy. I say that because the ink jets that I have seen print line-by-line and there is always that slight off-color, or slight miss-alignment. This laser is smooth as silk and, as I mentioned before, the page does not curl like an ink jet. Next, wireless printing: Brother has a great app (I have Android but there is one for iPhone too) To print OR scan documents. I havent tried the scan yet, but the print works great. This app works better than the PrinterShare App that I was using before. I felt it was worth the extra 50 bucks to obtain the duplex printing (useful on large documents). I did not feel it was worth the extra money for duplex scanning (I can turn the page over myself). Just my opinion... I havent tried duplex yet. Speaking of scanning, the cover doesnt open all the way to allow for thick book printing. That could be an issue with some people. Besides that, I really like the form factor and overall size. Finally, the setup could not be easier. I setup the wireless connection through the touch screen without touching the manual. However, I did need to peek at the manual to set the Date/Time. I have Windows 7, and used the CD installation for the PC driver and included PaperPort Software (no issues there). UPDATE 12/22: I had to return and say that I printed out a double-sided PPT with graphics and I couldnt be happier!!! You would think it was professionally printed. NO INKJET CAN TOUCH THIS QUALITY! :-)

This printer blows through toner like a runaway train! Also, the toner cartridges that come with the printer are "starter" level, meaning that they do not have the same amount of toner as a normal cartridge. Each cartridge, and there are 4 of them, costs about $70 to replace! If one of the three color cartridges runs out, you are out of luck if you just want to print black and white because the printer will not let you. Even the Brother customer service rep was surprised about this fact because he claims all of the other printers can override the color function and allow you to just use B/W if you so desire. Also, you cannot print from your Iphone, and of course Brother tells you it is because of the Iphone not their printer. I had no problems printing on the two other Brother printers I have. I will never buy another Brother product because of these problems and Brothers "I could care less about your issues" customer service.

If you are a small business owner, looking for a low-cost, medium volume printer, forget this printer and stick with HP Instant Ink. I used HP Instant Ink with my old HP OfficeJet inkjet printer for 2 years, and paid 4-cents-per page to get automatic toner replacement. HP always sent me the cartridges well before I needed them, and I never once ran out, even if I printed 1,000 pages in a single day. With this printer, I signed up for Amazon Dash replacement, and yet I always seem to be running out before the new toner arrives. Worst of all, the "low-toner" alert that LITERALLY stops you from printing isnt even based on the remaining toner - its based on the # of pages you print. So if you print 1,000 3" x 5" sheets, it counts the same as if youd printed 1,000 8" x 11" sheets. (You CAN reset the page count on the cartridges, but its basically a "hack" that is a pain in the butt to do, and you have to constantly watch the next batch of pages to see when your ink is running out) So I just added everything up, and after 6 months of use Ive printed 14,096 pages, and spent $848.01 on replacement toner, which means Ive spent $0.06 per page. When compared to 2 years of HP Instant Ink where I never paid more than $0.04 per page, this is ridiculous. Brother markets their product as having a lower per page cost than any Inkjet product, and it simply isnt true. Im switching back to HP Instant Ink and scrapping this printer. Oh and I forgot about Print quality! The print quality is pretty bad... very washed out colors, and a lack of precision that Im not used to seeing in a laser printer. The only thing good about this Printer is its connectivity - It has a rock-solid wifi connection, and integrates really well with Dropbox and other online services. EDIT: Ive had the printer for over 2 years now, and I hate this thing with a passion now. Im printing some colorful flyers right now, and literally this thing is printing FEWER PAGES PER CARTRIDGE than my new HP OfficeJet 8720. Its telling me that Im out of Yellow toner after approximately 300 pages, using the 1400 page "rated" cartridge. Meanwhile the HP Printer is getting closer to 350 pages on a single yellow cartridge. INSANE!

I purchased a Brother MFC-L3750CDW the newer version in Jan 2019. YOU CANNOT GO BY THE OVERALL STAR RATING BECAUSE THEIR ARE SEVERAL OLDER MODELS MIXED IN. All I can say is that it is very well designed office printer that has so far worked very well. The unit is almost silent when I compare it to the $600 HP laser that it replaced. I have never seen it go into calibration mode like the HP was always doing and the duplex feature is just so nice to have. I have not had to replace toner cartridges but the person who recommended this model to me owns one and says while the toner may seem expensive you do get a lot of pages out of it before needing to replace it. I will update this review if something changes, but for now I am very pleased with this purchase.
