The vendor (the Bombay guys, not Amazon) takes regular BR/DVD players and hacks them to work in other zones. It worked for one of our European DVDs but not for one of our European BRs. I called Sony customer service and they explained that it was a hacked unit.....in fact, they do not make a multi-zone player at all. The only solution they recommended was to have 2 players, one for USA content and one for European, but the European player would not be covered under a USA warranty. Thank you Amazon for taking this back and dealing with it.

This is one video disc player any owner of video playback discs (for lack of a more generic term) should strive to acquire! While I have yet to use it to its fullest potential, this video playback device was better than I anticipated. I was hoping (and got) a player that played DVDs and Blu-Rays from all regions of the globe, PLUS I found a bonus that, while it was mentioned, I had glossed over -- the ability to play video files from flash drives. So if youre looking for a DVD-Blu-Ray player that can practically "do it all" when it comes to commonly-used video discs (HD-DVDs and old 12" laserdiscs notwithstanding, please bear that in mind), get your SONY S1200 Multi-System Region-free Blu-Ray/DVD player as soon as possible -- especially if youre a major video lover -- and enjoy!

Very simple. Package arrived, opened the box, set-up/plugged-in the unit, attempted to power ON with main power on/off button, FAILED to power on. Next tried the remote, FAILED to power on. Spent the next hour trying to figure it out, FAILED to determine cause. Applied for RETURN label.

Its a nice little unit so far with one exception. It will not play The Avengers Season Six Blu-ray. This is the only foreign Blu-ray I have tried so far. Domestic Batman original series Blu-ray works fine. Dvds played on it, will at times, at seemingly regular intervals, become silent for like two seconds. Oddly enough, reversing play to go back to those spots, will fix that sound, until the next interval comes up (it occurs maybe every five minutes). Update: I saw how AmazonCustomerJ17 advised somebody on foreign blu-rays not working. Their advice is correct, so I can now see Linda on this player. As far as I can remember, this unit did not come with the instructions to select other regions on Blu-ray, but seeing it here I at least have some now. So I adjust my rating, if that were possible, to 4.75, only I cannot give it a five with the occasional silence dvds go through.

Works with any dvd as adviced but the internet TV system works slow. Roku inside seems having problems with speed and movie from Netflix and Amazon delay their audio with the video and have alternate stop! Do not know why. I also updated the system to the new one so I do not know what to say since the cost is pretty high for something that doesnt really works properly. Very good the dvd and blue ray that works with any countries origins! Will update my rating if it works better!

Im so glad I invested the inexpensive amount of money for this wonderful, and so easy to install, multi-format player!! It has opened an entire new world of blu-ray and DVDs from other Regions of the world that are actually in English, copied in other region playing formats. There are some great classics in blu-ray like Long Hot Summer and Love With the Proper Stranger for Paul Newman and Steve McQueen fans, and many more newer films. Some people are purists, like myself, and want Blu-rays. Some are fine with DVDs and thats okay too. For the money and the opportunity to view films I wouldnt be able to otherwise, its worth every penny!

The Seller reached out to me within 24 hours and I called their Tech support. After about 45 minutes on the phone they walked thru all the possible compatibility issues. We finally resolved the issue and it works with my TV and my original soundbar. I know have two extra soundbars but hey it works. Their tech support was patient and very helpful so I am upgrading my original rating. I purchased a multi-zone Blu ray/DVD Player to replace and older Multi-system DVD player that finally quit working. I Read the Reviews on Amazon for this product and it seemed to fit my requirements. SONY S1700 Multi System All Region CodeFree Blu Ray Disc DVD Player - PAL/NTSC - USB - 110-240V 50/60Hz - 6 feet HDMI Cable Included. On the Positive side it arrived in good condition and was seemly straightforward in its setup. I have a year old Samsung 65" Class NU7100 Smart 4K UHD TV with 3 HDMI outputs connected to a sound bar. The Cable box, the apple TV, work fine. The third HDMI connector to the Blu-ray did not connect. I first went to Samsung spent a hour on the phone with their tech support and found the issue was my old dvd not the TV. So I bought the Sony S1700 Multi-system Blu-ray player to take advantage of my TVs 4K UHD capabilities. I hooked everything up and the Player worked fine except for a very BIG issue. I would not connect to my sound bar. I tried optical splitters, digital audio to optical adapters, bought better gold tipped cables. And finally just bought a new sound bar specifically for the Sony Blu-ray/DVD player. It also did not work with the player. The Blue Ray player ONLY has a Coaxial out put to other sound devices. I repurposed the sound bar for an Epson Projector and there it worked fine with normal RCA cables. I purchased a third sound bar with a coaxial input. I hooked everything up and nothing happened. I got video but no sound. I took everything apart and reconnected the player to only the sound bar and played a CD. It worked beautifully. So I reconnected the player back to my AV system. CD’s play great, Home made DVDs played great. HOWEVER every Blu-ray and every Store bought DVD played Video but had a screeching clicking sound like an old movie projector but no sound. I tried over 30 DVDs of various age, regions, and types. I only found one that would work. I tried the 4 color buttons to change regions on the Players remote. All to no avail. I have hundreds of DVDs from the US and Europe and would like to be able to have better sound than what is available from the TV Speakers. I’m more than disappointed and more than a little frustrated with the audio options and performance of the player. I could not recommend it for anyone who wants to hear their Blu-ray, DVDs in anything other than their tiny TV speakers.

I had bought some Region B Blu Rays because these werent released in the USA. This player was pretty cheap,at the time I purchased it. The player is small no bells and whistles at all like a time readout on the unit. This unit worked excellent right out of the box played my Region B blu rays flawlessly. I would highly recommend this unit to anyone who has different region DVDs or Blu Rays.
