I normally love Sony products, but this Blu-Ray player truly sucks! Its biggest problem is with the wifi streaming (which is why I bought it in the first place. During streaming (mainly Amazon Video but Ive also heard it happens with Netflix too) the playback will completely freeze the unit. It will literally freeze to where you cannot power off. I have had to unplug the power supply to the unit-and when that occurs the unit loses all of its network settings and has to be re-set up (this includes all the logins and passwords to the apps too). Firmware updates do not help either. Sonys only answer is to reset the unit back to default-which helps briefly. I have been lucky enough that the Blu-ray function has been OK-but other reviews tell a different story. Sony knowingly put out an inferior product and have no answers or updates to fix it. If it were possible I would rate it with no stars. Save your money and buy a better rated unit.

One major flaw on an otherwise good player. This player works great...until your disc gets stuck in it. On two separate units, we had a problem where the "child lock" feature turns on and cant be turned off. This happened once, so we returned the player. It just happened again on a second machine. Now weve lost two discs. Sony customer support was no help at all. All of the fixes were useless. Youll see several other posts noting the problem; it appears to be a serious problem with the unit that Sony cant solve. Weve tried the unlock process on the remote. Weve tried a power reset. Weve tried a firmware update. Nothing works. And, if were batting 0/2 with this problem, on two completely different units, you can bet that theres a good chance your player will have this problem, too.

Bluray worked fine for 1 1/2 weeks. Then the tray wouldnt open and the message of a "child lock" appeared on the screen. I didnt knowingly turn on any child lock nor did I find any way to fix this. Went to Amazon product page and noticed that there had been NUMEROUS reports of this problem with no fix - despite the fact that this DVD player is rated 4 stars overall with 208 reviews. (Several suggestions were offered - some as Sony comments to the complaints, but none of them worked.) Tried contacting Sony customer support - a totally worthless adventure. After calling their support number and going thru their menus to my product class, the line went dead, twice. Tried going to Sony chat and got a website that looked like it was under construction. Selected my product class and nothing happened. Tried going to their product page and selected my product and support. It directed me back to the website under construction. Im sure Sony is fully aware of this product problem, but making it so difficult to reach any representative about this issue is unforgivable. Most of the previous complaints also noted this which reinforces my opinion and that I am not alone in this viewpoint. Im returning the unit to Amazon and will avoid Sony products in the future. This is not only a product failure, its a Sony Marketing failure too. Customers will understand that product failures do occur and can show some tolerance, but when the company shows no responsiveness, then their name and future sales get permanently tarnished.

Where should I start? I have had the product since Christmas and in that short time It has had quite a bit of problems. It can play any DVD, but Blu-rays are another story. I have found that on some Blu-rays it stops or is non-responsive with the remote, to correct this matter I have had to turn the machine off then on to get it to replay, then menu past the part that it stops at. There have been 2 updates since I have the machine and on both updates it deleted my Apps, and the logins to those Apps. That was a pain to get it reset both times. Amazon Prime and Hulu dont play correctly either. It takes a while to get them up and then when you do the shows can sometime stop or dont play at all, or I get volume and no picture. In those cases the machine completely stops I cant even turn the machine off. I have to unplug it then plug it back in to play again. Netflix has not gone unscathed either. HD takes awhile before you can see the picture clearly or voice and picture sometimes dont match. Its not the WiFi or the broad band because I have had them increased in between then and now, and still no change. So I either have a really bad machine or this product it just not worth it.

Buyer beware. I purchased this item less than a month ago and the child lock cannot be disabled. Cannot open the disc tray.

Despite being small and light, it is OK, except for a MAJOR design flaw. When pausing a Blu-ray disc the player will shut down after a few minutes. This is VERY annoying as you have to start over, wait for the disc to load and to go through the mandatory copyright and other screens, then fast forward to find the place you previously paused at. This can take several minutes. Seriously, did the designers not learn anything from 10+ years of Blu-ray player evolution? How hard could it possibly be to program in a resume feature? And a feature to allow you to disable having the player shut down after a period of pause. After all, they were able to program support for tons of unnecessary apps!

We ordered this product and it worked great for 2 days. Then out of nowhere, it started telling us that the "Child Lock" was on, and would not allow us to open the disc tray. I followed the instruction manual to disable this function, and it gave me the message "Child lock deactivated. You may now eject the disc tray". I pressed Eject and it told me that Child Lock was on. Thinking this was just a faulty device, we returned it to Amazon, who promptly sent us out a replacement. The replacement worked great for 2 days, and then, guess what, the same problem. A Child Lock feature would not allow us to open the disc tray and could not be turned off. The last movie we watched is now seemingly stuck in the tray forever. We will now return this device again and purchase a different product from a different manufacturer. Spend your money elsewhere, this device is not worth the headache.

I bought a different Sony BlueRay player and it died after 6 months. For some reason I thought this Sony BlueRay player would be different. I purchased this in July 2016. Ive only used it a handful of times and now it wont even turn on. Conveniently enough it is beyond the return date. Ive never dealt with so much junk in my life. Never again will I buy anything Sony.

This player is garbage. SONY really dropped the ball on this one. First one i got the disc tray went into child lock mode and i could not get it open. I did the STOP, HOME and TOP MENU to turn child lock off. Got message "[Eject] key is now working" but when I hit the eject button it doesnt open and a message pops up on the tv saying that the tray is locked. I sent that one back to amazon for a new one and the new one started doing the same exact thing a couple weeks later. I had a disc in at the time and the only way i could get it out was to do an emergency tray opening by unplugging the power for 30 seconds, then hold the eject button on the unit while plugging the power back in. Keep holding the button until the tray opens. I sent it back for a refund and Amazon refunded me my money, but took a $16 restocking fee out of my refund. I am very pissed about this. I was going to buy a different brand blu ray player through Amazon, but now i may just go to Best Buy. Sorry Amazon looks like you will be losing my business after this. DO NOT BUY THIS PLAYER

I wish i had researched this more before I bought this. This unit is horrible as a streaming device for Netflix etc. A short Google search revealed that this is a real problem with Sony blu ray players.........they just suck at streaming. Buffers time after time. Tried all the fixes that Sony suggests such as updating software, testing internet speed etc. No probs there. No probs streaming on any other device in my household. It is a problem with Sony. Really???????
