Im glad I waited to write a review. We did not have any issues when installing, it automatically updated with a wizard that took only a few minutes upon install. Using the apps and interface was very easy. But in the first month, the "favorite" button on the remote stopped allowing for it to be programmed. No biggie, not worth the hassle and player still performed well. Last week, the player stopped ejecting when using the button on the player. Then it started shutting down randomly. Then the power button on the player stopped working. Tonight it shut down and we had to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to come on. Now the remote and the player dont speak to each other, put new batteries in the remote, still not working. I expect it to die completely any day now. 4 months. I guess its a disposable player. I could have bought one of those for $30 at WalMart. Too late to return, says Amazon. The return window closes 2 months after purchase. Buyer beware.

We bought this Blu-ray player in mid-November as a replacement for another Sony Blu-ray that had failed. The original player stopped producing the audio on many of our non-Blu-ray discs. Then this is replacement player would not play the audio on many of our non-Blu-ray discs as well. Since the problem with both players was identical, we thought it might be disc deterioration. Those discs we thought were deteriorated we found played perfectly on an 20-year-old Pioneer non-Blu-ray player. We finally contacted Crutchfield; and, from the explanation we provided them, they were immediately certain we had a defective Sony player. We bought a Samsung player from Crutchfield, and it works perfectly. Were going to attempt some compensation from Amazon, and will update this review.

Stay away from this one. Purchased 3 and already had to replace one. The other 2 are slowly going bad also. I frequently have to pull the power cord in order to get them out of their frozen state. Now one does not boot correctly and just sits on the blu-ray screen no matter what i try. Very surprised by this and was definitely expecting more.

This Blue Ray Player has started blocking my movies with something called Cinavia that is supposed to block unauthorized copies. I bought the movies new right here on Amazon so they are authorized copies!!! Worse it is not even a Blue Ray Movie! So avoid any Blue Ray Player that has this softwear embedded in it. The Cinavia software will turn a good player into a worthless peice of crap.

I bought this as a replacement for a BDPS1500 (which stopped working completely). Well, this BDPS1700 worked fine for a couple disc-plays and a couple Netflix plays. Then I moved it from one room to another (yes, I followed the proper power disconnect procedure). When I plugged it in, it powered up and connected with the second TV, but would not produce a menu. It would not respond to the remote. It would not respond to the manual eject button. It would not power down with the manual power button. So I read the "manual" that came with it, but it did not reveal any troubleshooting tips that helped. So I went on line and read many many user reviews, blogs, etc., looking for hints to a secret "unlock" command. I tried several suggested combinations to no avail. I also went to the Sony product support site for this specific model, but it as well had no help for the problem. The suggested reset procedure did not work. And I considered the software update route, but could not do that with the unit being totally unresponsive. Conclusion: player rendered useless. Fortunately I did not have a disc left in the unit. So......... I returned it to Amazon for refund and went shopping to another manufacturer. I used to think that Sony had good products, but this family of basic blu-ray players must be the exception.

I bought this Sony DVD Player in 2016, see my pictures, and today I found it bricked and totally unresponsive. Now when plugged into an AC Outlet, the green power light comes then I hear the motor run briefly and then there is a simple thump sound. After that, nothing more happens and the only change comes when it’s unplugged from power, then it does the same thing when plugged in again. Since Sony does automatic updates to this product that I cannot opt out of, I suspect the DVD player received a faulty update that was not received well and bricked maybe during the night or really anytime. I don’t expect Sony to fess up to the loss and send replacements even though they know where their serial numbers go they just expect to sell more DVD players when this happens. Yes it’s a hazard of the update process that I can’t opt out of because no option on updates is offered by Sony. Now I have a worthless Sony product. Thanks Sony. I’ll never buy another Sony product. I recommend that readers of this review do the same and buy something else.
