A very basic BluRay player but it gets the job done. No issues to speak of and would recommend if you need it for a guest room or not as your main DVD player. **I bought this product at FULL PRICE. No discounts for me! Just a regular customer like you, looking for honest reviews that arent swayed by getting free or discounted swag.**
Good: This was a good deal on a blu-ray player with streaming. The Sony site will give you the full manual (I had to go to Sony for it - as the manual link provided with the insert sheet didnt have it). With the simple code from the manual, the small remote can easily control my Panasonic TV. The prominent Netflix button is easy for the kids, and the wired network connection works well in my setup. The setup menus are mostly clear and intuitive. Less Good: Id prefer being able to re-map the Sony Entertainment Network button (just as prominent as the Netflix one, but useless unless you subscribe to Sonys service). Not happy with the home network streaming, as it really doesnt like some video formats - avi, mpeg-1, and some phone videos play but are very blocky and pixelated. I have a Samsung bluray, about the same year (2014/15), with similar features that plays these files clear as a bell. Setup, as least regarding picture output, is much simpler & more automated on the Samsung - but some might prefer having the extra manual control offered by this Sony. In summary - a bit disappointed in the home network video performance, but I really cant complain for a blu-ray player with lots of streaming features for less than 50 bucks.
Got a refurb model of this when my second Samsung Blu Ray in a row bit the dust prematurely. This Sony (which to be fair, is a newer model then either of my old Samsungs) boots up faster, has a cleaner interface, and generally feels more responsive. I havent had any problems with the refurb. And if hadnt been for the fact that retail box was a little dinged up when it got to me, Id never have known it was a refurb. It has a very small footprint in our entertainment center.
I am highly impressed with this device. It seems brand new and works great, with the exception of having intermittent issues with the internet connectivity.That and you need to remove from favorites some of the preloaded apps like FeelN. They are not my favorites, and I do not care of they are yours. It does work well though and the layout for Amazon is nicer than most.
Great player. Only complaint is When selecting any icon using the controller the each box is very slow. It needs a better processor to help make menu selections. When I say this thing as well I mean its really slow when youre selecting options using the controller that comes with it.
They could improve the software, but the player at its price gives excellent quality to the discs I own.
Havent tried out the WIRED internet connection. The rest works great.
