This blu-ray player works perfectly. Ive used it for about a month now and love it. I cancelled my cable a while back and now use this for Netflix and Hulu plus and can even watch current news on my tv with it. I was even able to program my Samsung tv into the remote so now only need one remote. I did have to find and download the user manual from the internet in order to figure out how, but once I had the instructions it was easy. Im posting them here to help any future buyers.

Do you need a multi-format BluRay/DVD player? Then, here it is! I have many, many, video files in all sorts of different video formats (MKV,AVI,DiVX,MP4, etc.), and converting those files to DVD or BluRay format before burning them to a disc was a time-consuming task. If you have a BluRay/DVD burner installed on your PC, like me, then all you have to do is burn a data disc (in whatever format your file is in) and this player will play it. What a time saver! Words of caution: This is not a wi-fi ready player and therefore must be hard wired to a router in order to play directly from the internet. I am using this player at my lake house (no internet connection available), so this presents no problem for me. Also, this is not a region free player. It plays NTSC discs only, and will NOT play PAL discs. As to the quality of the playback, it is superb! HD discs show vibrant, correct colors in stunning detail, and standard DVD discs are upgraded to near HD quality....very impressive for such a reasonable price. I LOVE the menu. It is one of the very easiest to navigate that I have ever seen, and the remote is intuitive and easy to use. I am completely satisfied with and highly recommend this player. P.S. Dont forget to order an HDMI cable to connect to your tv.

Im replacing a Sony blu-ray player with this one because I wanted Sonys new user interface for streaming that allows you to have captions on Netflx and Amazon. I didnt want to spend a lot of money - this is going in the room I use for exercising. I watch streaming videos sometimes, and the captions are useful because the exercise machines make noise and can drown out dialog. Anyway - this is refurbished, but I cant tell its anything other than new. It works perfectly, has a great blu-ray picture, and the streaming works well using my ethernet (theres no wi-fi). The only complaint I have is very minor - there were no batteries for the remote in the box - not a big deal at all.

Bought the Sony Bdps1200 Wired Streaming Blu-ray Disc Player, Full Hd 1080p Blu-ray Disc Playback (Certified Refurbished) 128 days ago. It stopped working at 125 days. Was aware that this item was refurbished and had a 90 day warranty. Based on reviews and the Sony brand name it was a no-brainer. When it comes to electronics it seems if it works 90 days it should work for long time in the same environment under the same load. Regretting that now. Cant return the item through Amazon. This was an upgrade from a standard Sony DVD player DVP – NS57P. While the Bdps1200 Blu-ray player was working it did a great job. The only feature tested was the Blu-ray player, so no opinion on the other features. The picture was great quality. The remote work well although its a little small. The remote controlled the TV just fine. A couple of days ago the Bdps1200 Blu-ray player would not show a picture. Sometimes when it was turned on it would show the menu screen for a few seconds and sometimes not at all. After that the Bdps1200 Blu-ray player would become unresponsive. The remote would open and close the tray but nothing else. Look for troubleshooting online couldnt find anything that would work. Couldnt find anything at all really. To troubleshoot the Bdps1200 Blu-ray player the 1st thing was to check power. Mains power was okay 122.75 VAC (tested with Tektronix TX 3). Sony transformer tested 12.31 VAC (tested with Tektronix TX 3) 12.34 VAC (tested with Fluke 45) each time without a load. Unplugged the Bdps1200 Blu-ray player and let it sit for a day, same result/not working. Removed HDMI cable from Bdps1200 Blu-ray player and plugged it into a DVR, different result/DVR image appeared on-screen. Reconnected HDMI cable to Bdps1200 Blu-ray player, same result/still not working. At this time mains power, Sony transformer without load, HDMI cable and LCD TV all are verified to be in working order. Since the item cannot be returned after 90 days/the warranty is void, it was time to open up the Bdps1200 Blu-ray player and see what was going on. This was simple to do with just 3 screws to remove the cover. There are 4 solder pads on the circuit board next to the transformer input. Plugged the transformer back in, turned the Bdps1200 Blu-ray player on and tested voltage on the pads. The voltage was 12.23 VAC (tested with Tektronix TX 3). At this time the transformer with a load was confirmed good. Turned the Bdps1200 Blu-ray player off, unplugged/plugged the 4 "ribbon cables" and turned the Bdps1200 Blu-ray player on, same result/not working. Searched the web to see if anyone else had the same problem, couldnt find anything. UPDATE 10/4/2015: Thought I would give updating the OS a try. Downloaded it from Sonys website onto a flash drive, plugged it in and turn the unit on. It actually started working again. So I went to the update screen and updated OS. That went smooth however, let the Blu-ray player sit for a couple of days. Put the cover back on and plugged it in and it started working fine. Halfway through movie it quit working and is still not working. The rest of this did not influence the rating and is just an opinion. Never did a review before and was kind of frustrated that you cant mention the company you bought it from in the review. This kind of sucks because one would think that would be a pretty important part of the buying decision. An example, the product is 10% cheaper with one dealer on a particular part than another. That might persuade you to go with the less expensive dealer especially when it comes to electronics after all they are the same part?. However, pretty sure this is not the case here, there are different levels of refurbished items. One dealer could have the lesser, which could cause more complaints and the more expensive dealer could have the better refurbished of one part and you would never know the difference because the seller rating is overall and not for one specific part. Just a thought. Just happen to know a little bit about refurbished parts, FYI.

Excellent little Blu-Ray player. I was driving myself a little nuts searching for a secondary player that didnt have any sort of "smart" features (why is it SO difficult to find high-quality "dumb" appliances? If youve got a smart TV, or receiver, or Blu-Ray, or Roku/AppleTV/Amazon Fire, why would you want the other 28 things hooked up to it to be "smart" too? Yeesh.), but eventually settled for this gem from Sony. What a pleasant surprise it was! EASY TO SET UP: I connected it to my TV, plugged in the Ethernet cable, and then powered it on. After some quick updates, it was ready to roll. SURPRISINGLY ROBUST FEATURES: I had been using an Amazon Fire TV stick with my secondary (bedroom) TV, but was able to set it aside once Id installed this player. The number of available streaming apps is borderline overkill, and the interface is intuitive and easy to use. The remote is programmable, so you can control your telly as well as the player with a single remote instead of juggling two or more. SOLID AESTHETICS: The unit is small and unobtrusive, with a black mirror finish and an understated power indicator light. BOTTOM LINE: Dont be put off by the "refurbished" descriptor. My unit arrived in like-new condition (the box looked like it had been through the wars, but the device was securely packaged), and works really well. At this price point, it would be difficult to find a better player that supports not only Blu-Ray and Blu-Ray 3D, but a mind-boggling variety of streaming apps. If you dont need WiFi and want a great little player, this is the one. NOTE: Order an HDMI cable, as one is not included. Amazon Basics makes fantastic HDMI cables at excellent prices: http://amzn.com/B0052SCU8U

Im very pleased with this purchase. This replaced a media streaming player, DVD player, and a Blu-ray player. The picture (high definition) quality and ease of installation and use is excellent. It was set up and playing in 5 minutes. PROS: The price is right. Out of the box, there were no signs of wear and tear or being refurbished. Streaming Netflix in HD was a significant improvement; the picture quality was superb. Older DVDs do look better than when played on a standard DVD player. Multi-format (DVD, Blu-ray, and streaming) all in one thin and light weight machine put an end to the redundancy of multiple players. Ease of installation Subtitles for Netflix and Amazon streaming with just a push of the button on the remote Cons: Does not connect wirelessly (states that clearly in the product name) Does not come with an HDMI or ethernet cable (already had a spare of each) Does not include batteries for the remote (2 AAAs) Does not include an owners manual (havent needed it yet)

Im an avid fan of films and animation, especially anime. Ive been getting referred by friends to upgrade to an HD setup for a long time (the fact that I have an HDTV and we werent using the HD also helped), so I decided to get this because it looked like a nice, affordable setup. I must say, Im entranced. The first thing youll notice booting this up is that it has a ton of playback options, letting you optimize the player for your home theater setup. After I finished screwing around with the options, I took my Edge of Tomorrow Blu-ray and popped it in to test how it looks. Answer: Incredible. Playback is smooth and looks marvelous, with excellent contrast and color balance, but I guess thats for another review. DVD playback is also fantastic. Upscaling really helps your DVDs pop with increased color depth and smoother video. Also, try popping in a letterboxed DVD (large black bars at the top and bottom of a 4:3 image, not native 16:9). This player will automatically detect the letterbox ratio and crop it to a proper 16:9 aspect ratio and reformat any available subtitles to function properly for the new ratio. This will not affect native 16:9 films with a "scope" ratio, only the letterboxed 4:3 ones. The DVDs I used to test this feature are Tenchi Muyo! in Love (letterboxed), Mars Attacks (native 16:9 "scope) and Speed Racer (native 16:9 "scope"). If youre in the market for a good player, this one is highly recommended.

Update July, 2017: Streaming through this device has gone totally kaput. Our original problems with the remote straightened out, but streaming is bloody awful. Netflix stutters. Hulu just says, "nope!" in the middle of a show and shuts down. Were scrapping this thing ASAP and finding a streaming device that doesnt have to be run through Sony servers. Will keep at two stars because it still plays Blu-ray disks. *** Updating after six months of use: This unit is okay. Itll still randomly stop working but not with as much frequency as in the beginning. I did follow the recommendations in the comment under this review. Updating to two stars. If the remote were always responsive, itd be 4 stars as it does what it should, otherwise. *** Unfortunately, this turned out not to be a great purchase. At first, just the remote would randomly stop working - buttons would not respond and a re-start at the box would get things going again. Now its pretty constant, and the on/off button on the box wont respond either. After streaming a show on Amazon, for example, the screen goes black, all buttons stop responding, and the box has to be shut down at the power strip. Disappointing waste of money, and I just discovered that Ive missed the return window by ONE day. Figures! Ive had good luck with refurbished products in the past, but not this time.

My husband and I bought this Sony Blu-ray player because we were tired of moving with PlayStation from the living room to the bedroom. So...we bought this Blu-ray player to keep in the living room. I really like this Blu-ray player. It was a good price and works for what we needed it for. It is small and does not take up much room. We have it sitting under our cable box which makes it easy to access. There is a bright blue LED light that comes on when you tun it on. There is a USB port which I also really like as well. The remote it a little bulkier than I would like but it is just like any normal Blu-ray player remote. This Blu-ray player is really easy to use and I am not very tech savvy so I need something that is easy to use. I would recommend this Sony Blu-ray player.

I was a bit hesitant about getting a refurbished Blu-ray player because of all the horrible reviews of people having it work just long enough for the warranty to expire and then have it break the day after. I decided to use it heavily during the first 30 days to see if I could find any problems with the player. It plays beautifully and has an Ethernet connection which would allow for streaming and other internet access if you have a either an Ethernet cord or another router to plug into. It comes with a power cord and manual but if you want to be able to access the internet you will need to buy a separate Ethernet cord and physically plug that into a router or a wall connection.
