I started a return on this item because at first it was nonfunctional, and I may still return it. They caution the purchaser that it may take a while for it to start, but I gave it well over 5 minutes before deciding it was a dud and that the HDMI cable which came with it worked far better than it did. I gave it another chance over a week later, after trying to juggle work & social obligations, and lo & behold, it turned on. Seller cautions purchaser to make sure "QuickPlay" is turned off in Settings, but as far as I could tell, that was already the default. It plays my BluRays very well, and my DVDs well enough. However, it could *not* play the "back-up" features on one DVD so far. It is advertised as being able to play mkv as well as avi files, but as far as I can tell, it can not. If the instructions which come with it says it will only play such files with all sorts of caveats and exceptions (cryptically named with initials and acronyms), then, effectively, it just cant play such files. One should not have to be a computer expert in order to plug in a BluRay player and watch ones video files. Lastly, for some reason, when the power is turned on the BluRay player, it immediately turns on the TV. Not a problem, and not unusual for an HDMI cable to do such a thing, but for some reason, it defaults the TV to a channel 4 setting which renders me unable to get my "source" option screen for any other player, computer, etc. I then have to turn on something else and do a bit of gymnastics on my remote to get it back to channel 3. In the future, I will try to remember to do those gymnastics as soon as I turn off the BluRay player so Im not caught flat-footed later. In short, Im a bit dissatisfied, and wish I had bought a Samsung instead. But it feels like too much trouble to do anything else now.
