This player has some pluses and minuses for me. Its small and compact and was fairly easy to set up. It plays discs well, too. And its a Sony, which Ive had good experiences with in the past. The service from Amazon was good, too, as usual. It was delivered on time and in good condition. No complaints there. On the downside.... It has no built-in display. I imagine that was done to keep the form factor small, but I miss having that. You have to hit the "display" button on the remote to see the information youd normally see on the players display - chapter, time played/remaining, etc. Not entirely intuitive. The player does not remember where you were in the disc when you shut it down. So every time you stop a disc and want to resume it you have to search through the disc to find where you left off - again, this is a little harder since theres no built-in display. Finally, it takes a long time to boot up. It seems like its ready to go, but if there is a disc in the player it takes even longer because it has to recognize the disc first and thats a long process. Overall, Ill keep it, but I wouldnt buy it again or recommend it to a friend.

I purchased this to replace the Sony BDPS6500 (which replaced a Samsung that didnt work out of the box), which I had purchased 3 weeks earlier and didnt last a month. This one lasted 14 months, so it was a definite step up. When purchased, these were replacing a 12 year old Sony, which had finally quit playing. Sony, what happened to that kind of quality? While it worked, the picture quality was decent and the upscaling on DVDs made for a good sharp play back. 14 months later and it cant read ANY discs, of any type. It stopped reading BluRay discs a few months ago, but I didnt worry too much, since most of my collection is DVD, As of a couple of days ago, it cant read anything. I tried using a head cleaner, which is basically a CD, and it doesnt see it. I tried playing other CDs and, again, it doesnt see them. I, also, tried a few other formats and got nothing. I did the latest update and that didnt help. I did a hard reset, several times, and, again, no joy. I get the same error in all cases... "there is no disc." It does continue to work with online apps. As for the remote, it is simple and functional, sometimes. About six months ago, I started having to give it a smack against a hard surface every once in awhile, to get it to work. A little annoying, but not that big of a deal. If youre in the market for a disposable player, this one is pretty good, while it lasts. As for me, Im going to give my relationship with Sony a rest. I just ordered a LG and will see how that goes.
