Sony BDP-S3500 Region Free DVD and Zone ABC Blu Ray Player with 100-240 Volt, 50/60 Hz, Free 6' HDMI Cable and US- European Adapter

I have had this player for several months and now I dont know how I could live without it. I live in the U.S. and I have found an online video store in the U.K. that carries a huge selection of DVDs, Blu Rays, and collectible Steelbook Blu Rays. Their prices are downright unbelievable. You can get a box set of an entire TV series or even every James Bond movie from Dr. No through Skyfall for a very inexpexpensive price. But you must have a player that will play Region 2 PAL DVDs and Zone B PAL Blu Rays to play everything. This player comes in at a very affordable price and it is very simple to use the remote to change to any DVD Region 1-8 and any Blu Ray Zone A, B, and C, as well as automatically convert PAL to NTSC. Amazon uses a third party source to do the necessary hardware conversion to make the player all-region and all-zone. This company does an excellent job on the hardware conversion and is very quick to answer emails for tech support should you need it. This player literally opens up a whole new world to you because you can find titles all over Europe, Australia, and the Far Eastern countries such as Japan, China, and Hong Kong, that just arent available in the U.S. I highly recommend this player to anyone who is interested in entering a whole new world of videos.

I like this player except for one thing (and to me, its a major issue). Theres no "clock" on it to let you know how far youve gotten in viewing your DVD. There are times when I need/want to know how much time is left for viewing the movie. I generally dont look at a regular clock when I start watching a movie, so not having that clock (or countdown or whatever you want to call it) is very upsetting. Also, another reason for having that clock is that if I accidentally push the wrong button on the remote and end up back at the very beginning of the movie, I dont know how far I need to advance it to get back to where I was. Im seriously considering purchasing a different one because its become a major issue for me. And, yes, I know I could use the "display" button, but I hate that it stays on the screen and interferes with the picture. You miss so much when you cant see the whole image on the TV.

Great product. I recently updated Sony firmware for the unit which transferred data via the built in Wi-Fi fast and with no glitches. Conversion of this unit from Bombay Electronics is flawless. And, because the conversion from NTSC to PAL is handled through hardware, not just a software hack, there was no conflict when updating the machine. Very simple to play Region-B Blu-Rays by just pressing a button on the remote before play (just follow the super simple instruction page included with the converted unit). Likewise, DVDs from other regions all load effortlessly. All Blu-Ray discs, regardless of Region, load super fast in this player. I was delighted with the speed which is light-years past my Sony Blu-Ray player from only a few years ago which seemed to take forever to read and begin playing a Blu-Ray disc. This unit is much less than half the size and weight of my older Sony player, but dont worry about the small dimensions; its a high quality machine. As usual, purchase through Amazon brought this to me in record time.

Ive only had this a couple of days so I cant say what it will be long term, but so far it works GREAT and just as advertised. I can absolutely play a region B DVD on it in the US. The only issue was that the way it said to change the region didnt work for me (the player wouldnt turn off using the remote with the region B DVD inserted, but I just got up and turned it off, then turned back on with the remote. It worked fine and its not THAT big of a deal to have to get up and turn it off ONLY when changing regions on the player.....) The remote works fine after that initial on and off manually. When I first plugged it in it did a new software download, went off without a hitch AND didnt affect my "all region" capability.

I just purchased this for my daughters birthday. We already have one and it works really well. You can play DVDs from literally any region without problems. We havent had any problems yet with ours, which is why we purchased one for our daughter!

Updated review: Died in less than a year and a half, with normal usage. For the price and name, it should have lasted longer. Plays as stated, any region DVD or Blu ray, have only tried Region 2 dvds and Blu - Rays but they play perfectly and effortlessly. Its also a smart device, so you can get Netflix and Youtube with wifi, as well as many other services.

I havent purchased any other DVD/Blu Ray players so I have nothing to compare it to. All I know, so far, it works for me. I dont use it often (once a week at this point) and Ive owned it for about 6 weeks. The remote works great (meaning no problems) and that makes it easy to use (as it should) ... which is why it gave it 5 stars. As for the picture quality, I gave it 4 stars, but I am not sure if the player has anything to do with that as the DVDs/BluRays and the TV I use I think would be what control the quality of what I see. I am happy with it.

This unit is exaclty what we have needed for many years. We have a considerable library DVDs purchased and carried in from the USA to our country of service. Without this region-free player, we would not be able to enjoy all those great (old) movies and shows. It works so very easy and it perfect for HD TV. I am sold on it! Its dual voltage, and exceeds our expectations for quality. Perfect unit!
