The region free DVD player arrived on time and in great shape. It works fine - the only disappointment was that "Internet ready" capabilities only work for a wired connection. Not sure if I would have spent more to get the wireless version, nor was that a primary reason for the purchase, but I got excited reading the box / combined instruction manual - and then that excitement was tamped down a bit. Unfortunately, I figured out how to connect and take advantage of the Internet-ready capabilities. That resulted in a software update that rendered the unit unusable for any except Region 1 DVDs/Blu-rays. No warning about that "side effect" had been provided. Nor was I told that the 3rd party firmware update that allowed the unit to be "all region" had voided the warranty with Sony. Spent about two weeks trying to get help, first from Amazon and then from Sony and finally from the seller, without success. By the time the seller provided a second link to upload the firmware, we had given up and returned the product. So everything I said in the first posting was correct - as long as you are willing to accept the fact that the unit cannot be used with the Internet connectivity capability. I had also wasted money on an extended electronics service plan -- definitely a waste since the 3rd party seller had voided the manufacturers warranty....

Useless. Couldnt play any of my DVD discs. Also didnt come with HDMI cable as a bundle as advertised. Came in a beat up box, and I think it was refurbished, because batteries are never inserted into the remove control, user manual is missing and the original box was pretty shabby. Will be sending it back shortly and would not recommend.

25 March. I hated this order. This Sony blu-ray player was falsely advertised by a Kentucky company as being a region free player that could play any disc. Even the Amazon technicians couldn’t get it to play a region B blu-ray disc I had the misfortune to also purchase when it didn’t play on my Samsung blu-ray player. No wi-fi connectivity. I don’t recommend this player to anyone.

The main reason I bought this was for it multi regional purposes. It plays dvd region 1-6 and bluray region A, B, C. Region A is the yellow button, B is the blue button and C is the red button. Came with a remote that needs 2 AAA batteries and instructions. The dvd regions are automatic, switching the bluray zones is done with the original sony remote. Turn the player on then wait for the home screen, push which ever zone region you want then insert your disk and press play. The player will receive an IR command from the remote and it will switch to the desired zone. You wont see or hear anything but it will work. You gota keep the quick start option off (by default) so the zones can be switched. But it starts up pretty fast anyway.

Its perfect! Exactly what I wanted! Note- the remote also controls my Sony 4k Blu-ray player so I have to put a piece of black foam board in front of whichever one Im not using or it tries to play both..no big deal but something to be aware of.

Very slim, compact unit. Does everything it says it does. DVD playback is region-free (R0) meaning just insert any DVD from around the world and it plays automatically. Blu-Ray playback is multi-region meaning you need to manually set the region, but this is extremely simple to do, just the press of one button after powering on the unit. (My previous Seiki multi-region Blu-Ray Player required a secret code to be entered to change zones, but thankfully not so with this Sony model - this is so much quicker to do.) Havent noticed any problems with any DVD or Blu-Ray source as yet and I have a huge library of DVDs and Blu-Rays from around the globe. Great picture too. The unit seems solid enough for its price range and, as its a Sony, Id expect it to last a while. If you want to connect it to the internet, youll need to attach a cable, as this unit doesnt have Wi-Fi built-in (youll have to upgrade to the next model up to get that). One last thing to note is that the only video output is HDMI, and the only sound output is also through HDMI or via co-ax. There are none of the ye olde fashioned standard A/V outputs such as S-Video, component, composite or even plain old stereo jacks. So this will only work on displays and A/V receivers equipped with HDMI or co-ax. Thats about the only down side I can see though and Im sure there arent that many customers who would care about that these days anyway. For the price, its absolutely great.

The unit arrived very quickly and hook up was a snap. Have been able to watch different blu-ray and dvd from different regions with a crystal clear picture and easy operation.

The Sony Region Free Blu-ray players are hands down the best players if you are interested in playing Blu-rays or DVDs from different zones or regions. Sony makes 4 models (BDP-S1200, BDP-S3200, BDP-S5200, and BDP-S6200) Please make sure you buy the Multi system version if you want region free functionality. It will say in the title of the listing. Im posting this same review on all 4 models since they are basically all the same unit with different features and I have had the opportunity to try all of them. First all these players are region free and will play blu-ray movies from any region including A, B, and C regions. Also standard DVDs from anywhere in the world play on these players.110-240 voltage allows for use anywhere in the world. Plus they are "smart" players which allow you to do Amazon prime and instant video. So if youre like me and have a Amazon prime account you can watch the videos directly on your tv. This is one of the hundreds of apps available on Sony players. Ive also tried using youtube, pandora, and netflix- all of them work good. Netflix is a bit slow to bootup but once its done it works flawlessly. I personally have the BDP-S5200 and the BDP-S3200. They are practically all the same except for a few differences. The BDP-S1200 is the basic player and requires a hard wired internet connection if you want to connect to internet. The BDP-S3200 adds WiFi built into the player. Next is the BDP-S5200 which adds 3D support so it has WiFi and 3D. The last is the BDP-S6200. This is their highest level model which has Wifi, 3D plus it also if 4K. I personally own the BDP-S5200 and the BDP-S3200. I have also used the BDP-S6200 because a friend of mind has it connected to a 4K tv. These Sony players are excellent quality and work great. Buy the model that has the features you need. All 4 are readily available on Amazon. I hope this helps people make a good choice. I normally dont post reviews but when I bought this there were none available so I wanted to contribute this to others.

This is one product that I have tested that is truly "Region-Free" without any caveats like asking me to tweak something or set one button or the other. Product is lightweight and has a great small form-factor....occupies very little shelf space, but audio and video quality is fantastic.
