I just got this player about a week ago. My Sony 3d/region free player was having problems playing the new Thor Ragnarok 3d, and I cant have that. So I decided I needed a back up player. This Samsung player had the region free option and the 3d option. It came quickly in its own box announcing that it was a blu-ray 3d player so Im surprised that it made it before someone grabbed it off the porch. It is about one third the size of the Sony that I have had for the last 3 years so it takes up way less space. It is a little noisy in loading a disc. BUT - I cant say enough about how impressed I am with this little player. It handled playing Thor Ragnarok 3d with no problem. It switches regions easily without all the now you close the tray, now you go to home that the Sony requires. It loads fast with none of the flashing WAIT signal that the Sony does, which is Sony for Ill get back to you in twenty minutes, or so. (My husband says the twenty minutes is exaggerated but when youre waiting for a movie to start, five minutes seems like a long time). I havent tried streaming yet since I am a collector of hard copies from way back. I am impressed with the ability the Samsung has to upgrade - some of the regular Doctor Who blu-ray discs look like they are in 4K UHD. Even the remastered DVD movies of Charlie Chan from 80 years ago look as clear as the day they came out in the theaters. The sound is really good - Im not really into sound, but my husband it happy with it. We still have a 5.1 system - 7.1 or Atmos would probably blast the neighbors out of their chairs. So far - real good. The one thing I wish these players would do is signal which region it is in, but so far I can tell because it plays the disc right away if it is in the right region. BTW, if you have a region free player, you can save a lot of money by buying movies you want to keep at amazon.uk - the 3d movies are a lot cheaper there even with the change from pounds to dollars and the shipping. I have bought all the movies that came out last summer in 3d from the uk amazon and probably saved enough to buy this new player. Needless to say, the Sony has been relegated to the guest room as back-up. Ill update if we have problems.

So far so good. Plays region A and B blu-ray disks and region 1 and 2 DVDs. Region recognition is automatic with DVDs but NOT with blu-ray. Before inserting a Blu-ray disk, you have to use the remote to press "1" for region A or "2" for region B.

Will not play Region 2 disks. Called Samsung support (after useless chat room support) and was told that Samsung does not make and Blue Ray/DVD player that is multi region capable. They told me to return it to place of purchase.

The Samsung J5900RF is identical in features the the regular version that only plays Region A Blu-ray discs. Its easy to read graphic display makes it simple to play discs or do streaming. My favorite feature is that is shows elapsed time as well as total time for each disc playing. Most other manufacturers only offer elapsed time display. This player is quite easy to set up. The wireless feature works perfectly. Where this Samsung player shines is in its ability to play Blu-ray and DVD discs from all regions in the world. You just need to press a single digit to let the player know which region your current disc is formatted for. My only complaint is that you are paying about $100 over the price of a non-region free player just for a minor hardware modification. If you want a Blu-ray player that can do it all, get the Samsung J5900RF!

Purchased in July 2018, worked well until Feb 2019. System became increasing unresponsive and eventually only responded to the eject function, using a universal and native remote. Samsung was willing to troubleshoot via phone even though their system showed the unit was registered and no longer under warranty. After troubleshooting with the manufacutrer, they determined the system needed to be sent in for repair. At that point I contacted 220 Electronics and was instructed to return the unit for repair or replacement. I paid to have the unit shipped to them . I was contacted via phone this evening. Seller claims they cannot reproduce the issue, do I want them to test for another day or return the unit? Very odd the issue was resolved after being shipped. I deal with and troubleshoot electronic devices daily and unequivality attest the unit was not functional so it is unlikely it was miraculously fixed. I am generally an optimist but cant help but feel the seller found the unit to be unrepairable and is looking to backing out of their repair / replace warranty claim. They were willing to ship the unit back to me at my expense. I declined, why spend another $13 to have a defective unit returned. When I asked about trading the unit in for another I was told the unit had no value. They could offer me a 10% discount off a new unit. They offer a 5% discount to everyone purchasing a Blue Ray player. Buyer beware.

The only thing I noticed is that it says that it has WiFi capabilities but when I went to the setup menu to connect it to my home network, the only option was for a wired connection, not a wireless connection. Other than that, so far so good. It plays all of my Japanese and Korean DVDs with no problem.

We didnt have the Blu-Ray DVD player and we had the need to be able to view DVDs that our friend in England had sent us on the TV - rather than having to view the English DVD on the computer screen. The Samsung solved both these situations. What I really liked was that all you have to do is insert the non-US DVD and it plays right away with no need to select region first. The only negative (and the reason for 4 stars instead of 5) is that the player has no light or indicator that the player is on. Just a play button and an eject/insert button.

I was under the impression that it was going to have wireless internet access capability. It only has wired ethernet. I either read it wrong, or there was a typeo in the write up. Otherwise, I love it! It is easy to use. The device and the remote control have easy to read buttons. Im amazed at how small it is. The menu is easy to understand. Great picture quality even when I used it on a TV with only 480p HD resolution. I dont understand why all DVD players arent region free. These things are so hard to find in brick and mortar stores. Now I can watch my James Bond collection that a good friend gave me as a present from Germany. This is great!

Bought the region free DVD player in order to watch my British region 2 DVDs. No problems so far. Installation is a piece of cake and I was watching the region 2 DVDs within a matter of minutes. I do not have any Blu Ray region 2 but I would not anticipate a problem. Great to be watching my 200 or so region 2 DVDs so I do not have watch and listen to all the presidential debates, commercials and negative slagging which were getting on our nerves. I fully recommend this dvd player if you simply want to watch overseas DVDs. The only negative is there is no indicator light on the front of the unit so you do not know is the player is on or off. This is the only reason I downgraded to four stars.
