I bought the SAMSUNG BDF-5700 Multi-Region DVD/Blu-ray Player only so I could watch "The Caretaker," a British movie thats only available on a Region 2/PAL DVD manufactured for the UK. The DVD and the Blu-ray player arrived in the same package eight days after I purchased them. The Samsung required no set up. I just plugged in the power and the HDMI cord to an HDTV. I then put in the DVD and pressed PLAY. The DVD menu came on from which I watched the movie and all bonus material. The picture and sound were perfect, and there were no problems to indicate the DVD was region 2 or PAL. The operation was totally seamless. Some reviewers have written that this player is not multi-region, but they are wrong. Confusion might come from trying to play a Blu-ray disc from a different "zone." When I opened the devices box, on the very top was a sheet of paper that described a special procedure to play foreign Blu-rays. I bought this player instead of a less-expensive multi-region one so that I could also watch Netflix on TV upstairs using Wi-Fi to connect to my DSL modem. I signed into Netflix and began watching a movie to test this feature, and it also worked perfectly. I am totally happy with the SAMSUNG BDF-5700, and I highly recommend it.

First of all, this unit does do what I bought it for, to watch Region 2 DVDs, with ease. No settings, no issues, just put it in and it plays. Upscaling seems to work well too. I connected to WiFi without any problems. Setup was simple with HDMI. The unit is, however, not exactly feature-filled. There is NO POWER LIGHT or indication of any kind at all that its on. This bugs the heck out of me for some reason. It feels cheap, and indeed the unmodified version of this unit is not expensive. It does seem that the options for Region-Free playback are slim unless you dont mind paying a lot for old technology.

First off, Samsung is my go to electronics choice (3 Samsung TVs and sound bar). The remote control for this Blue Ray player is easy to use. I bought this player because of its multi-region capability. I bought a DVD at Walmart and it was not for the US region. Why they would sell it in Florida, I have no idea. Hence, the multi-region purchase. Quality (picture and sound) is excellent. Completely happy with this product and would recommend it to anyone.

I wanted to give it a full 5 stars but the WI FI is not as strong as I wanted it to be....I ended up using an Ethernet cable to view my Netflix shows. But after the cable was put in place, it worked like a charm. The only thing besides that, is the fact that I am not too impressed with the quality or variety of APPS available. The Sony BDPS 3500 Blue Ray Player had many more interesting APPS, but unfortunately, I was not able to get a steady Netflix streaming with the Sony player. BTW...This Sumsung is not multi-region, or at least not for Italian DVDS.

Most of my DVDs and Blu-rays are NTSC and region A. For other regions I only have DVDs from the UK (PAL) and one Blu-ray disk from the UK (region B). The DVDs have all played with no problem at all, nothing to do but put them in and play. For Blu-ray disk, you have to press 2 before you turn the player on and it will play region 2 Blu-ray disk. The default for Blu-ray is region A however after playing a region B disc I had to press 1 while the player was off to set it to region A. The quality is good to excellent, this is harder to rate since I have only 1 region B disk. I have it connected to a Samsung UN46F8000 46-Inch 1080p 240Hz 3D Ultra Slim Smart LED HDTV. I would recommend this to a friend.

I ordered this along with Sonys BDP-S5100, also an upgraded multi region player. This players Blu Ray quality was impressive right away. The size is small and not intrusive; I also like the front USB port. Pretty easy set up. I ran a range of tests on both players: both functioned similarly but one .AVI file (via USB) kept freezing this machine, but played well on the Sony. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of support for several .AVI files on both machines, while others (AVI, XviD, MP3, MP4) did play on both. The kicker for me was the Sony unit allows access to Amazon Prime content while this Samsung does not (or any Samsung I guess). This was ordered with that knowledge, but under the impression that it would play a greater range of files through the USB or wireless network. I didnt find that to be the case, though most functions seemed to work nice for the week or so I kept it. So far, I plan to keep the Sony. Update: just before packaging this up for the return, I could not get the player to work at all. Im changing from 3 stars to 1 star.

I love everything about this little compact player. Movies and music are easy to launch, simple and ease of use of this machine that my grandchildren have no problem with it.

i do like this dvd player however it is NOT a multi region dvd player. It only plays region 1 and blue ray discs. The main purpose of getting this was to watch all regions...

Awesome product from Samsung to enjoy; I love it especially the various options on the internet functionality. I would have given it five star if it had amazon movie streaming options and some lights upfront to illuminate guiding various commands
