Bought this unit back in July and I really dont use it much. I played it once and it worked fine then turn the unit off and left there connected to my 4K TV. Today as of 9/14/2018 decided to turn the unit on, the LG logo displayed at first then goes to black screen. Never shows the menu or anything just sits there black. I unplugged the unit for a few mins then plugged back in, power it on. Same thing - black screen. It sickness me that I have wasted money on this garbage that only placed once and after that doesnt work no more. What a rip off. And I cant even return the unit because there is no button for me to press to return it on Amazon. So beware as this unit only works a few times then stops working.

The lg DP550 . Plugged it in , hooked it up ,turned it on and requested we do an update . Fine , had read another review that said they also had to .OK . Did up date . Played a disk , looked through every app it came with . Watched some Amazon Prime , great picture , great sound no problem . A couple of weeks later , turned it on , nothing but a white screen . Tried to turn it off , white screen . Tried to turn it off mannually . White screen . Unplugged it waited about 5 min . Plugged it back in , no problems until 10 days after 30 day return , white screen again . A replay like before . Froze up watching anything wifi . Then it just picked random times to freeze up , and the only way to shut it off was to unplug it . The last straw was when watching Sat. Tv ,, turns itself on , white screen , unplug . Left unplugged . Was going to call Lg and square trade protection plan the next day , since it was past the 30 day return . Couldnt sleep , its after midnight . Amazon says 24/7 service . Called , got service person second ring . Told him what was going on with the unit , and told him it was past the 30 day window . He told me that they would issue me a refund , keep the old unit didnt want it back , and hoped I would still do business Amazon . ........ I asked ," I want to be sure Ive got this straight . You know its past the 30 days , your sending me a refund anyway , and you dont want the unit back ?" " Yes , he said , thats exactly right ! No stars if it were possible for the unit . 5 Stars for Amazon service and customer service personnel !

First one, had to return when it required unplugging the unit every other time. Stopped in mid-stream, failed to connect, even when connected via Cat5 — just generally about the same level of convenience as the old style television where you actually had to get up, cross the room, and turn the dial to change a channel. Replacement acts the same. Don’t waste your money.

The player goes unresponsive every few hours in all modes. have to unplug to get it going again. Junk. And missed the return deadline. Wish I could return it.

I purchased this bluray player for two reasons: 1. It streams Amazon Video 2. It loads discs faster than my old Samsung bluray This unit has an option for Amazon; however, it goes away when the software is updated. To get it back, you need to reset to factory settings, which automatically updates the software every time. Each time you reset factory settings, you need to reestablish the connection to your WiFi. Putting in your password is clumsy, awkward, and cumbersome. I called LG tech support, and there is no way to turn off the automatic updates. Now for the streaming. This machine doesnt seem to know what streaming is really about. I have a 75Mbps connection to the internet. My WiFi router is AC/n/g/b/a on dual band. My living room laptop consistently connects at 144Mbps to my LAN. Fast, no problems here. However, this LG BP550 will only stream for 3-8 minutes before either indefinitely buffering or locking up. The problem is either connectivity or the on board RAM that cannot be increased. You have to press the BACK button and then hit resume. Sometimes this will work, sometimes not. Remember, if you go back to the main menu, or turn it off, the updated software now precludes you from re-entering Amazon Video. You will have to reset the factory settings and reconnect to your WiFi. Why bother? 2. This machine does load discs quickly and starts playing quickly. The quality of bluray disc playback is excellent. DVD upscaling leaves a bit to be desired on the LG BP550. I hope I have saved you some time. Do you know of a machine that meets my two criterion at the top? Please let me know by leaving a comment.

Had about a week. Now when trying to use it just says no signal on the channel & power light pulses if you try to turn it on. I can unplug the power cable and back in to seemingly reset it to work sometimes. Unit seems to get too hot in a spacious area. Going to file a return & try a different brand. Especially when it was 100$.

Are there any of these boxes that actually work? Do any really function as advertised? This is truly a POS system (and that acronym is NOT point of sale!") it rarely works as described and regularly needs to be rebooted - as in several times daily - just to work at all. It is absolute junk, and Id love to find better, but evidently they are all crud.

Can’t say that I’ve ever had any DVD or Blu-ray player fail for me like this one has and for others. Paid over $100 for this bare bones no WIFI no apps 4k Ultra. It played movie format files from USB with no issues. The first REDBOX BLU-RAY attempt exhibited continued black out and was unwatchable. The behavior continued regardless of whatever disk you try to play in the player. 0 quality control, shame on LG For allowing UP875 on the market. Their $50 WiFi smart BR player has worked flawlessly for 4yrs. Fortunately, I was still in the Amazon return period and got a full refund.
