I wanted to love this printer; nice design and great features. However, it felt like buying a new car model - HP has not worked out the bugs. The first unit would not set up with either my Ethernet or WiFi networks. The official HP support guy was knowledgeable and walked me though at least two hours of diagnostics, at the end of which he suggested that I have Amazon replace it. The return process was painless and the replacement unit came quickly. I was able to configure it easily, given all of me previous experience and it worked well... for three weeks. One day, after I was happily scanning and printing, the unit went into semi-brick mode, with a minimal menu screen and no connection to my networks. The support guy was unable to reset or reconfigure the unit after trying a variety of things. So I returned it to Amazon as well, again with no hassle, for a refund. Im now shopping for a great multifunction unit from some other vendor; for a comparable price, I should be able to get something great. Ive owned a number of HP printers, and most had their irritating quirks, but this experience was just too frustrating, with too much time wasted. But my hats off to Amazon Prime; what great customer service!

Bad printer. Stop working after 3 months. I called HP support they forwarded me to their contract support group (probably from India). They charge me $455.00 for the installation of all kind of security and they couldnt fix either. They promise to send me a replacement worth $69.00. Besides, I just replaced a brand new set of ink which cost almost $500. Now the printer is a piece of junk. I have been buying HP but now is the time to switch to another brand.

When I first got the printer, although installation was complex and lengthy, I really liked the printer speed and quality. It was a real pleasure to use until recently when jamming starter to occur. Nothing was really jamming but the printer thinks its jammed and instructed me to clear the Jam and then attempts to reprint, however it then indicates a jam again. So now one is in this catch 22 of trying to reprint and jam and so on. In one of my calls to HP I learned to reset the power and memory, following which the printer would print one or two pages before showing a jam again and being lost in this catch 22. OK, so technical problems happen however to resolve them I ended up being shuttled in between the various department of the huge HP organization to get assistance. Everyone is very nice on the phone, but nothing happens. Its been almost 3 weeks that I cant use the printer and until this afternoon they either told me that a technician will call me (never did) or they will send a replacement (never did) or we were simply disconnected and no one calls although they all make it a point to get my call back number. Today after 5 calls, and being on hold for a total of 2 hours, I was finally told that a part they are waiting for (2.5 weeks!!!) will arrive tomorrow and the service technician will call. (Lets hope). Whats amazing is that to every person I talked to at HP I give the case number, s/n, etc. and they all seem lost and give me different answer or send me to a different department. I have never seen such a disjointed uncommunicative organization with the most complex processes that simply doesnt work. Maybe a large enterprise can have a printer down for 2.5 weeks having many around, but for a small business of an individual its a killer. If you buy this product you will love it until it brakes down and youll question every buying an HP product again.

***Update 11/14/2017 Printing remains snappy and reliable. Quality of the prints is good. I love the convenience of being to print right from my phone. Im able to print lots of pages quickly with no issues - pretty happy with the quality and speed. Functionality-wise, one feature I feel is missing is the ability to manipulate printing of files on USB drives. When you plug a drive in, you can only print the different files. File type support is good, but if you have a PDF, for example, you cant choose to print only a selection of pages - you have to print the whole file. I suspect this is because they would have to have advanced support for multiple file types, and keep that support up-to-date. This is usually not an issue. But we had essentially a book in one PDF and only wanted to print a few pages, and that was not possible from the USB interface. Regarding the ink, I confirmed that the cartridges that came with the printer are "setup" cartridges (they have "Setup" printed on the end). I have now replaced the three colors as they have all run out. Black is still holding on. Searching the details on the HP site, I did find where they indicate that the printer ships with the setup cartridges. They claim the black should be good for ~3000 pages and CMY for ~1500 pages, which appears to be in-line with the results I observed. So hopefully others can benefit from my oversight / insufficient research. This printer will cost $500, then youll have to spend another $500 in ink after a few months (assuming you get the "x" cartridges). ***Update 8/13/2017 Im still pleased with the overall performance and functionality. We use this at a church and only print on the weekends. It wakes right up and starts printing with no issues. Been reliable that way. My big complaint is that we have printed maybe (MAYBE) 1000 sheets total and the ink cartridges are already showing as almost gone. I wonder if HP puts "starter" cartridges in since other users say they get 10,000 prints per cartridge. Yes, we are printing full page graphics, so maybe thats just the way it is. I am buying the "X" high yield replacement cartridges and will see if they yield better results. I expected to have to buy ink about once every 2 years. Instead Im having to buy ink after just 2 months. Dropping another star, though I really would rate it at 3.4 stars. If I have to buy $500 worth of ink every 2-3 months, then this is a bust. *** Update 6/20/2017 after receiving replacement... I received the replacement printer and it is an improvement on the original. There are no dog-eared pages, and in fact no paper feed issues at all. I did end up having the same issue with Blue Screens on this second unit, but I am now convinced that was due to the size / complexity of the pdf I was trying to print from my phone, which was generated directly from InDesign. That was the only file that caused this issue, and only from my iPhone. There a lot of things you can do with this printer. After spending some time with it, I do have 3 specific comments. 1) Colors are definitely muted and not very accurate on "regular" paper. Ive seen this mentioned in other reviews too. Its not bad, and not even a problem for me, since Im mostly just printing handouts and Sunday School materials. 2) Speeds are good - even very good - but they are not consistent. Sometimes pages come flying out, other times there are delays between some sheets. Again, overall this still yields a pretty fast printer / copier. But the published max speeds are truly max possible in the universe, if the stars align. 3) My biggest disappointment is a relatively small thing - when printing from a USB flash drive file, you apparently cant choose which pages to print, you have to print the whole file. This is a problem for me as I have a summers long file of material that I just want to print off one weeks worth (a few pages) at a time. This is not possible as far as I can tell. Hopefully this can (will?!) be fixed in a future firmware update, but why is this function not included? Overall, so far, Id probably buy this unit again. Will report back if anything changes. *** Original review below... This is the ideal AiO printer for a small business or organization. It does so much and is fairly intuitive. Problem is, Ive had nothing but problems since I installed it. The first issue that showed up was during the automated test prints during initial setup. One of the pages came out dog-eared and crooked. After setup, almost every print job had at least one or two dog-eared pages. I checked for obstructions, checked the paper / paper tray. Nothing worked. The second, and even more critical issue is that Ive gotten about 10 - 15 blue screens on this within the first day of real use. Every time I try to print from my phone, the print job starts on my phone, then theres a blue screen with power button logo on the printer that just says "B8B6695E." Then I have to power cycle the printer to recover it. I checked for a firmware update, but the printer has the latest. Im hoping I just got a lemon this time because the potential of this machine is truly phenomenal. I have initiated a return for the first unit and ordered another one. Will update this review after Ive had the chance to test the second one.

This is a horrible product. Do not waste your money. Cant go a week without it breaking down... Tried to contact HP technical support and their website makes it practically impossible to even get a phone number to call for support. I got bounced around having to call 3-4 different numbers and ultimately got zero help from HP tech support after wasting several hours just trying to get a hold of someone.

DON"T BUY FROM HP!!! Heres the unfortunate part. When we initially bought this printer for our small office it worked extremely well. In fact, it worked better than any of our Epson printers. Then, a couple of months ago Apple came out with an update to their operating system. They released Mojave Operating System. Now I realize that with any change in operating systems it could take a little while for the various auxiliary companies (i.e. printer companies are a perfect example). I was patient. The problem...the printer would print a single page of a multi page document then stop printing. In some cases it would stop printing all together. I called HP and spent over two hours on the phone with them the first time. At the end of the call the HP Sr. Rep told me that the problem is because HP has not released an update to work with Apples Mojave Operating System. But, he assured me he would call me in "three days" with the release date. He never returned the call. The next week I called HP back and they told me the exact same lie "three days". Again nothing. Last week when I called they actually told me that the HP update is being released in "three days". It has been more than a week and no release. The printer is useless. Interesting to point out that Epson released an update for Mojave over 6 weeks ago. All of our Epson printers work perfectly.

Purchased the Pagewide Pro 477dw less than two years ago. About two months ago the far right side of the page started printing irregularly and then not at all in black. The built in cleaning features did nothing. I then purchased the Advanced Cleaning Pad from HP and it did nothing. Finally took it the local, authorized HP repair person to learn that the print head assembly died and that HP wanted $1500 just for the part! The printer costs $550-$600 new! These printers are designed to last two years and cost you tons in replacement ink. The printer was used at a small business where there are three other printers so it was not overused. Primarily used for faxing and scanning. Stay away from inkjet printers. Spend the $$$ upfront and get a laser printer.

This is a beautiful machine that is absolute garbage. It will only print on one inch on each side of the paper. HP customer support is rude, unhelpful and difficult to understand. I only have 18 days left on my warranty and they told me to order all new ink cartridges and call back. That is 1/3 the price of the printer to order new ink again. Going in the garbage and the 2 new HP Laserjets and 1 HP desktop I ordered on cyber monday have already been submitted for return and will be sent straight back to costco and amazon as soon as they arrive.

I thought it was a pretty nice printer till it broke one month out of warranty. Scanner stopped working and I cant get the part from HP or any where else. It seems there arent enough of these out there for people to stock parts, or maybe HP doesnt make them available. Anyhow now Im looking for a used one to scavenge for parts, anybody want to sell their broken 477DW? HP tells me to take it to Best Buy to get it fixed but Im afraid of being without it for weeks.

My HP476 ink jet printer died. When I attempted to order a replacement, I found that the 476 is obsolete. So I ordered an HP477. I could not be happier. The printer arrived in its HP packaging so the unpacked printer was issue free. It appears hat the 477 has new network install along with networking code. The network install worked the first time and all of the systems using networked 477 have printed flawlessly. The contrasts with the HP476 network install that was one failure after another. As an unexpected bonus, the 477 prints 70 pages/min instead of 60 pages/min printed by the HP476.
