To echo what others have said here, this printer seems good until youve had it for a while. The print quality is fine, but not exceptional or even good and the printer burns through ink like there is no tomorrow. As soon as it runs low on a color, it pops up a message and blocks you from printing even just in black and white when there is a shortage of a color. If you need to print something in a hurry with a mostly full black cartridge you are just plain out of luck if you happen to also be mostly out of yellow or magenta. Do you need yellow to print a black and white copy? you might think not, but Brother disagrees. Youll just have to wait a few days to print that out.

Great printer. Replaced a HP. (made this before I ran low on ink) UPDATE!!!. Moved from 5 to 1. One of the reasons I replaced the HP was the constant ink alerts when you are low or using a refill. Much to my surprise Brother not only has the constant ink alerts but, IT WILL NOT LET YOU PRINT WHEN BROTHERS DECIDES YOUR INK IS TOO LOW. Again I do not get to decide when my printing is too light. Brother decides and will not let me use my printer. I wish someone would have posted this before I bought this printer.

Quit Printing, Warranty Not Honored, and Time Consuming "Trouble Shooting" demands from Brother.‎ Although this printer came with a years warranty,9 months after purchase the printer "woke-up" and started ‎grinding as if trying to print something totally on its own, and not in response to any command from me. I just ‎happened to hear the grinding from another part of the house, and at first I had no idea what was making the ‎grinding noise. When I got to the printer, it had an error message that said "Unable to Initiate 50‎." I called the ‎Brother Support line (1-877-276-8437) and asked if theyd been hacked since my printer was obviously ‎responding to an external command. "Ronny," the on-call technician, said they had not been hacked. I asked if ‎theyd updated their software recently, and he said they hadnt. Ronnys own theory was that I had a paper jam ‎inside the machine (even though it had worked fine on my last print job.) So he insisted I walk through all the ‎steps required by their paper-jam "Trouble Shooting" script...in spite of those steps being completed unrelated ‎to what happened. Im almost 73 years old and Ronny kept asking me to do things that required me to crawl ‎around on the floor plugging and unplugging the printer, lifting the printer and turning it around to access the ‎‎"paper jam" area, turning the printer off and on...and after none of that worked, he finally gave up on his "paper ‎jam" theory and started a new script which finally stopped the grinding and got rid of the error message. He ‎also had me print a test page to make sure it was working, and it did! The next morning my husband underwent ‎an emergency operation and hospitalization in a city a 2 hour drive from us. I stayed with him at the hospital ‎and didnt have access to printer until we returned home, at which time the printer sounded okay but only spit ‎out completely blank pages. I went through its settings, checked the driver, checked the ink supply, and ‎checked my print preference settings...and all appeared normal. Even though all of my cartridges were almost ‎full...I replaced all of them with brand new cartridges, but it still only spit out blank pages. I called the Brother ‎support team back the next day (8 days after my initial call to them) and was told by "J.C." that I would need to ‎repeat all the troubleshooting steps I had undergone with Ronny, because my call-back was not within a 7 day ‎time frame!! I told JC that I had trouble shot all the paper-jam steps with his predecessor, Ronny, and that since ‎the printer had no trouble spitting out paper (albeit blank sheets), I was unwilling to repeat these futile and time-‎consuming steps. I told him my printer was still within warranty and I wanted it repaired or replaced. He said ‎he couldnt do that so I asked to speak to his supervisor ("Sykana") who told me the exact same thing. I asked ‎to speak to his supervisor whom he told me was off-site and not available to customers. So I consider all this to ‎be roughly a $100 lesson in the worthlessness of their warranty and concern about customer satisfaction.‎

omg this printer is better than expected, was thrilled to find it also prints 2 sided pages without the reloading of the pages one use to have to do to accomplish that task, this printer actually prints one side then pulls the page back in to do the other side, its also very convenient with the front loading paper tray and compact size since my office is a bit cramped and this printer has to set on a shelf, it prints beautifully and so far Ive been pleasantly amazed at the ink usage, prints beautifully and seems to use surprisingly very little ink to do so, and just for your info you do not need to buy ink when you purchase this printer since it comes with a full first time use supply, unlike HP or Epson who only give you a small starter pack of ink which is only good for about 3 normal print jobs, i bought this about 2 months ago and im still on the initial ink they supplied with the printer and thats after printing 6 8x19 photos as well, very impressed with how easily it does envelopes, scans, faxes, and loading the ink from the front is a great feature as well, so far i cant find a single thing that i dont like about this printer, it was so easy to install and the software is also great, the software isnt so behind the times like the Epson, and its not so territorial and loaded with bloatware like the HP, its easy, lite, and installs quickly.

0 stars - but I had to click 1 star to enter a review... I received this product on November 1, 2017. On December 9th it ceased all printing functions due to its control panel’s report of a “paper jam” (in a location where no paper had run in recent history), and, upon our repeatedly following the printer’s directions and commands to clear the non-existent jam, it continued to block all printer functions. On December 11, after its continued refusal to function as a printer, I pulled the plug and am returning it for a refund. (Its Brother predecessor did not commit “paper jam” suicide until at least a year after we bought it, so I did not realize the Brother printer products were so poorly designed and/or manufactured before ordering the first Brothers replacement. I will never buy another Brother product again! Thanks to Amazon for sending UPS to remove the piece of junk.

In April of this year I purchased a Brother MFC J68ODW printer. I already have a brother laser and a label printer. A couple of week after receiving it it indicated that the black cartridge needed replaced. I had only used the printer a few times up to that point since I only use it when I need color or to scan or copy documents. I replaced the black cartridge and everything was fine until sometime later I get the notice the yellow cartridge needed to be replaced. I purchased a brother LC201CL from Amazon, received it and installed it. I then got the message "Did Not Detect." I reinstalled it several times always getting the same message. I contacted this Brother support site, explained the problem, and was told the cartridge was probably not suitable and I needed to purchase one directly from Brother. I did so, received it, installed it and received the same "Did Not Detect" message." Again visited this site and was told there must be something wrong with the cartridge. Purchased a Brother cartridge from Best buy. Same result. I took the printer to a Brother Repair Center here in Columbus. Mixed results. For them sometimes it worked, other times it did not. Brought it home, connected it to a different port and power source and did not get the message. A couple of days later I looked at the printer and the "Did Not Detect" again showed. I again took it to the Brother repair Center and was told they got Okand Not detect on an intermittent basis and there was nothing they could do. I have had the printer home for a couple of weeks and I too get the message on a random basis when the printer is turned on. This is simply not acceptable. My previous experience with brother has been very good and it appears that this printer needs to be replaced. Purchase Date was 4/16/2017, Serial number is U64036-6H695226 What now? ========================================================== I spend an hour on the chat system today with a representative. We went through long description of the labels on all of the ink cartridges and every other item related to the printer and cartridges. Result = NO CHANGE!!! The display still shows "Cannot Detect" regardles of the cartridge entered into the yellow slot. This has gone on beyound reasonable effort. How do I return this falty printer with one that actually works? NO response from Brother Updated review for experience for above printer. In November Brother finally agreed to replace the above printer. Received a new one, installed it and everything appeared to work Ok. I used this printer very little, 5 pages a month or so. Now forward to March of this year. Guess what.? Constantly getting a "Cannot detect" message for yellow cartridge which will not let system work for any feature., same problem as with the original unit.. Unplugged both power & USB connections,. reconnected, restarted computer and message disappeared (until the next time I tried to use it). As with my efforts with the previous unit support concluded the problem is using non-brother cartridges but, the one in the machine are the ones that came with it. Total pages printed since receiving it have probable not exceeded 3 pages. Am I the only user with this problem?? I have two other Brother printers ( laser & lable) and have never had a problem with them. Very disappointed!!

I read a lot of reviews on different printers. As well as this one, and there was a lot of reviews from people who got the product for free, I was going to let that deter me from buying it...I am so glad I didnt!! I am in school still and plan to be for another 4 years to obtain my doctorate. I currently print a lot of powerpoint presentations and I hated not having the double sided feature on my old Epson (which always crapped out on me within 2 yrs). I have had this printer for about a week or so, the install on both my Macbook Pro and my Macbook Air was simple as could be you just download the drivers from the website (no CD-ROM needed) and it will walk you step by step to set up the printer on WiFi (only thing was you had to restart your wireless router to get them synced). It took me one time printing to figure out how to print double sided because of the difference in PC/Mac and never having that option before. But it took about 3-5 minutes to print a 30 slide, 2 slides/page (15 pages) double sided grayscale powerpoint. I havent used the option to print from my iPhone yet and will update when I get a chance to use it. Product is super nice and sleek, not huge, it fits on top of a small filing cabinet and looks great! Highly recommend it!!!

None of Brothers printers take 8 x 11 photo paper into its printer tray. I had to learn this the hard way. You can only load 1 by 1 photo paper into the back of this model. Into a SINGLE FEED. Horrible! I have 100s of photos to print. Then on top of this, it keep jamming. It takes 4-6 tries with the paper feed to get one photo paper to print. I talked to brothers customer support about this issue. They said they dont have a printer that can take photo paper into a tray. So thats when i called hp and they said they do. I double verified and their hp Office jet 7740 takes 35 photo papers from 8 x 11 (or smaller) to 11 x 17 into a special tray for photos. Returning this printer for a refund. I ordered this printer/Fax/Scanner(MFC-J680dw) to replace a previous brother MFC all-in-one. The first one delivered had a problem with the Auto Doc Feeder. The paper would "catch" on something about 2" down the page and either blur the lines or skew the document. I returned it for another just like it feeling that I got a bad example. The second one arrived and had the same flaw. I called Brother support and went through a "clean the rollers" exercise which helped for one cycle but returned to the same problem again. I cannot recommend this printer. In addition to the poor mfg, the software setup was difficult and the WiFi connect was spotty, sometimes unable to locate the computer on the network. Guess Ill try another brand.

Have had this printer for a few days and everything seems to be working fine. The printer arrived intact with no missing parts and after setting it up, began working without incident. I like that you can replace individual cartridges without having to buy cartridges that contains all three of the ink colors. This will save significant money down the road. I tried the scanning function and it did a great job. The price is very reasonable, providing everything continues to work for two or more years. The printing speed is slow but you do get nice clean documents. So far, no paper jams with this one. Im giving the Brother MFC-J680DW four stars because you cannot make 8-1/2 x 14 (legal) sized documents.
