For those of you that wanted a 144 Hz/1ms delay monitor for a good price, this monitor does the job. Please keep in mind that out of the box it does not come with a display port/DVI-dual link cable, so you will need to buy those as well if you want to reach 144 refresh rate. As other reviews said the monitor does have washed out colors, I used the settings below (courtesy of Reddit) which helped it a lot. Settings: -Theater mode -Contrast = 83 -Saturation = 42 -Color temp = user mode with all three set to 83 -Skin tone = natural -Sharpness = 50 -Trace Free = 40 -ASCR = On Getting 144 Hz on Windows 10: Also note the monitor will default to 60 Hz out of the box, even with a new cable. To change this on Windows 10 (with creators update) go to display settings, click display adapter properties, and then click the monitor tab and select the refresh rate you want. (if you have more than 1 monitor make sure to have the right one selected before trying to change the settings). Overall, for the price, its a good monitor, arrived quickly and in good condition. Will probably buy a second one to replace my other monitor, Overwatch looks great on it.

Okay, I have had this monitor for a while now. And it took a VERY LONG TIME to be able to get my settings right to make the screen look good. And my comparison was to my old off-brand tv that I also have connected. Out of the box, the monitor will look terrible. It will. The off-brand tv looked way better. I am going to post all of my settings so that it will hopefully help someone else. The reason I am only giving the monitor 4 stars is the fact that the speakers are completely useless and that was the main reason I chose this monitor. Dont use the speakers on this monitor. They are some of the worst speakers Ive ever heard. I bought a nice, THX rated, Logitech speaker set to fix that issue. If they wouldve decreased the price and took the speakers out, I wouldve given this monitor 5 stars. It spins around on its stand for easy adjustment. You can also raise or lower the screen by holding down the base and push the display using its frame up or down as needed. It doesnt take much pressure to adjust, but it will hold firmly in position. The build of the entire monitor screams pro gamer monitor. And I would agree. 144hz. If you havent seen a monitor functioning at 144hz, you really need to see it. 59/60 hertz shows trails and seems to have its own motion blur. When Im playing any game, this is distracting, I might try to predict the balls movement in the game Rocket League and then I miss because the low hertz cause a lot of problems. If you are using a tv for any of your gaming(like I did until I got this monitor) It is an amazing jump. You will instantly see all of the movement without any trails or motion blur. Nice clear fast movement. It wont look like a low frame rate or anything. The top review for this item gives advice before you buy about whether your computer can handle 144hz or not, I suggest that you read that review as well. Most other screen types also have really high input lag shown while this monitor is only 1 ms. You are unable to see input lag at 1ms. Its awesome. Now for my settings. I did not like the settings that were supposed to be the best. The screen looked foggy and the colors didnt look right. Splendid > Theater Mode Blue Light Filter > Level 0 Brightness > 60 Contrast > 83 Saturation > 50 (Dont worry, the colors are still very vibrant at this level) Color Temp > User Mode R > 89 G > 89 B > 90 Skin Tone > Natural Smart View > Off Image Sharpness > 60 Trace Free > 80 ASCR > Off Now whether you like these settings as they are is up to you. You may want to tweak them more. If you modify your settings afterward, post them here so I can try them as well. Sharpness is the only thing I cant decide on. 60 should be the max and you may want to lower it to either 40 or 50.

****7/13/17**** This monitor is amazing! If you have spent a lot of time researching this (or other) monitors, you may have heard a few people talking about the colors being washed out because its a tn panel.. Well, in my experience, this is far from the truth! I had to do a double take because this thing is vibrant, colorful and so nice to look at! I have only been using it for 2 days so far, but my goodness this is a great looking screen! It even looks good from angles that you wouldnt even possibly look at it from. Its hard to tell that its a tn panel. Ill come back and update this review as I use it over time, but right now, Im really happy with this purchase! I primarily play Overwatch and I may dabble in Guild Wars 2 or Aion from time to time and I have to say, these games look fantastic on this monitor. And having a 144hz refresh rate on such a fantastic looking display is just awesome. Ill try to attach some photos of this monitor from various angles, but for some reason my camera phone picks up lines in the screen that arent really there when looking at it. Im sure it has something to do with shutter speeds and all that, but Im definitely no photographer.

If you are only looking to get the best performance monitor out there (meaning you want fast response time and as many frames per second on your screen) then this monitor will be great. If you want that and a good picture quality, youre going to have to look elsewhere. I used the monitor for about a year before deciding to sell it on ebay because I just got tired of the lackluster image quality. I would buy high end games and the image was just never at the level of what I was looking for. If you buy the monitor, youre going to have to download a color profile from a website (I think I got mine from CNET) to even get anything remotely enjoyable. The image youll get with that isnt bad, but it is certainly not great. For most, this will be fine. The improved performance during shooters and other fast moving games will far outweigh any downsides to having a less than stellar image quality. But, if you dont play shooters and dont need the insane refresh rate and response time, then you might be better off going with another monitor that has a better image with a 60Hz refresh rate. Just to reiterate, this isnt a bad monitor...you just need to know what type of game you enjoy playing. If shooters and fast moving games arent for you, then look elsewhere. If Overwatch and Destiny 2 are your jam, then this will be great.

I was on the fence buying a TN panel display. I mean come on, its 2017... I can get the same 24" IPS display I bought 5 years ago for half the price I originally payed for it, and half the price of this TN panel. But reading the reviews and studying up on higher framerates, on top of playing competitive pvp games led me to picking up one of these when I needed to replace my main display. I bought into the hype... AND OMG was it worth it. WOW 144 Hz what a difference. IMMEDIATELY after setting the monitor refresh rate on my NVidia GTX 1060 to 144 Hz I knew I made the right choice. I sat there in awe moving my mouse around the screen so smoothly and crisply. You wouldnt think youd pick up the difference but I can easily see it just by moving my mouse around on my new and old monitors side by side. Obviously gaming-wise the difference is just as well, Battlerite at 144Hz is perfection. Color-wise, no doubt this panel competes with my old IPS ASUS displays (VE247H & an older VH236H). Side by side I dont even notice a difference after tuning the settings and colors, if anything the blacks look even better on the VG248QE. Im stunned. Just know that, like all of the ASUS monitors Ive used, the VG248QE needs some significant tuning to get the colors / levels set correctly. The last thing Ill talk about is the stand. My older ASUS monitors have fixed stands with no height adjustment or rotation. The added advantage of the rotation and height adjustments are super nice and I didnt realize what I was missing. The base of the display has an integrated rotation feature, really high quality.

Great budget monitor, I cant BELIEVE the difference this made. Just 2 problems Ive found; My Displayport, which is what u want to use to get the 144hz out of your GPU, was showing "no signal", I would plug in to HDMI and it worked fine, I figured it was the my DP cable so I bought a new one. The new cable did not fix the problem, I thought it was the GPU, unplugged and went to onboard DP port, still no signal. So now Im thinking its the port on the monitor!! In a last ditch effort before contacting ASUS product support, I unplugged the power cable and held the power button down for 15sec, I plugged it back in and turned it on on the DP source and lo and BEHOLD its ALIVE! Take note of that process if youre contemplating a purchasing this item. Second, I play games on both PC and console, the PC looks flawless in HD no matter what frequency I run at (60,120,144hz), my PS4 on the other other hand, looks great but I can see red specs or red pixels floating around. I dont know what the deal is with that, but it doesnt do it on my other HD monitor (an older ALIENWARE). If youre buying this SOLELY to console game dont, If youre buying it to get more out of your GPU on PC its GREAT! I suggest upgrading the monitor before upgrading the GPU.

I got to start with this. This is a great monitor. Read all other reviews for more details, not much I can comment about. -- #TL;DR: Around 2 years of owning the monitor, displayport randomly gives up after PC wakes up on sleeps or screensaver for my 4th time, other ports are not in use but still functional. Warranty service covered me for my last 3 times (2 replace, 1 repair). Great service, about to request the 4th if they allow. -- The only reason why I knocked a star off, is because from time to time, the display port of the monitor will just suddenly decide to stop working. I usually sleeps my computer, rarely shuts it off unless needed to. However, so far 3 times when I wake my computer up, the display simply wont turn on. This problem only occurs on display port because HDMI and DVI sill works as intended. I tested with different PC pots, monitors, and cable and sure is the monitors issue. My first 2 warranty services simply sent me new displays, with the 3rd repaired and sent back. Now Im about to request the 4th warranty service (if they allow). This time I kept my computer on when I left for dinner, came back in 40 minutes to wake screensaver, and found the pixels on this monitor all messy while the 2nd (different) monitor is all normal (connected via HDMI). Sure tried different ports and cable, still the display port issue on monitor. For your information, my friend purchased an exact same monitor with me with almost identical PC setup, but he have not yet to experience this issue. Between each displayport failure, I assure that I did not plug/unplug the cable for more than 3 times, so it shouldnt be physically damaged.

The Asus VG248QE is THE best gaming monitor for the price due to its affordability, features, and build quality. This monitor is, in my opinion, the perfect size to meet the needs of someone who plays multiple genres of games. I play a MOBA, an MMORPG, and various other titles of different genres off and on and the monitor is the perfect size for all of the gaming that I do. The screen itself is incredibly sharp and offers great viewing from most angles. As is the case with TN panels, you really need to be sitting in front of the monitor for the best experience. If your situation differs, you need to consider paying up for an IPS panel - the cost is significantly higher but viewing angle problems will no longer be present. As a side note... to confirm my theory that this monitor is the perfect gaming monitor at the right size, I have seen it all over professional gaming events on Twitch. The 144hz difference, in my opinion, was incredible and well worth the cost over a traditional PC monitor. You will notice from the moment you set the refresh rate in Windows that your mouse moves more smoothly like butter and you gain so many more frames of vision that you were losing before! One thing that is not explained well out of the box is that you must use the included dual-link DVI cable to achieve the maximum refresh rate of 144hz and a setting in Windows needs to be set as it will default to 30hz or 60hz. I cant recommend this monitor enough to all PC gamers requiring quick reaction times (any game online). Note: I performed independent research and asked gamer friends for their advice before purchasing and was not provided a review copy. I have no involvement with Asus though I am very impressed with them now.

I had trouble connecting the monitor to my PC via display port at first. To start off, I had another Asus monitor from the begining, and I bought this VG248QE monitor as my secondary monitor. I pluged the displayport cable into the port on my Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti. I didnt expect it to show "Displayport no signal". After checking no connections were loose, I decided to give up and try an HDMI cable instead. To my surprise, my HDMI cable actually worked, but my refresh rate was limited to 60Hz. Then I used VG248QE monitor alone with HDMI for one day and decided to give my displayport cable another try. This time, it magically turns on! I dont know why this happen but I have a suggestion to other people with the same problem of "displaytport no signal". Shut down the power, disconnect all other monitors and use this monitor alone and then try your displayport cable.

This monitor has failed on me 3 times since I bought it as a gift for my husband 1 1/2 years ago. Each time the issue was the same, with the Display Port failing. The first instance was 8 months after I purchased it. We processed an RMA through ASUS and they changed the board out and sent it back. The monitor worked for 4 MONTHS and the EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED. We again processed an RMA and received the monitor back with a new board. The Display Port FAILED AGAIN after 3 months! Do NOT buy this monitor. If you have issues with it, ASUS will not own up to their faulty product and will keep sending faulty replacements to you.
