Purchased the BD-F5100 6 months ago and have been very pleased with its multi region capabilities as well as a DVD/Blu ray player. This unit is mated to a Samsung LED HDTV. Unfortunately, the reviews of different Samsung players have been combined into the thread of this unit and may have caused some confusion about its multi region capabilities. Therefore to clarify, for DVDs this unit automatically detects the region (0-9) and then plays the disk. However, for Blu ray disks, one has to manually change the region (A, B or C) first; otherwise, the player defaults to the factory setting, which for USA is Region A. The user manual from Samsung does NOT address how to manually change the Blu ray region. However, enclosed in my purchase was an instructions sheet from 220-electronics.com with the following directions (abridged version follows): 1) Turn player off using remote - wait until player is fully off before proceeding. Make sure Quickstart is turned OFF as region switching will not work 2) Press button on remote to select (blu ray) region: Region A: press button 1 on the remote control Region B: press button 2 Region C: press button 3 The player will automatically turn on and boot up in the region corresponding to the number you entered. This reviewer has viewed DVDs from multiple regions and Blu ray disks from Regions A & B without trouble and hopes others find this information of use.

I originally wrote my review Amazon didnt like it nothing vulgar or obscene , just the truth. As stated this is an overpriced MODIFIED player. This was not in the description. 30 days have passed and now getting messages to update, well read in the reviews if you update you lose the multi regional. I called Samsung and they said, "we dont make multi regional players" So Amazon what are you going to do about this, since 30 days have passed I cannot return this . $172.00 for a $62.00 player, thats just wrong. As noted Buyer Beware, not worth it buy the Sony real regional player

For our UK DVDs, this is a miracle worker! Its a very sleek and small player - looks terrific. We have a Samsung TV, which was a big reason we went with this model. The remotes integrated with no programming needed, which instantly eliminated a remote from our process. Of note, early on we had issues with it not recognizing certain US Blu Rays and I was going to reluctantly return it, but it turns out that we must have pushed some buttons on the remote accidentally (while it was off) that changed the programming. I e-mailed the company and they were extremely helpful and responded almost immediately. Here were the steps in case you run into this issue: First go to settings and find the option called Quick Start and make sure this option is set to OFF. Then turn off the player and wait at least 5 seconds to make sure it is fully shut down. Then press 1 1 1 1 1 several times on the remote. This will tell the player to set it to zone A and region 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 PAL/NTSC, which is what we wanted. Problem solved and works like a charm and now we know how to reset easily should it happen again.

What I received was a BD H5100, a different model that IS NOT region free. There was a cheap sticker on the back that proclaimed its regional fluidity. No such luck. Total rip off.

Addendum - Take this ad off Amazon until the manufacturer honestly notes that it will not play all U.S. coded Blu-Ray Disks. It is a piece of garbage and he remote was make by someone without any training in design.

Im really pleased with this blu-ray player I have owned it for almost a year now and it has worked beautifully. The apps work fine, Wi-fi connection is fine and it has played blu-rays and DVDs from USA and UK. The only issue I have had with it is that for whatever reason it will not play my Hannibal (TV) blu-ray discs and it shows that it isnt the right region which is odd because its never happened before and they are region 1 discs. It might just be an issue unique to lions gate DVDs and it has not been an issue with any other disc ive played so I do not fault this blu-ray player for that issue. I would really recommend this if you are looking for a region free blu-ray player!

There are three reasons I purchased this player. One, it plays almost every region DVD. and I have found a lot of my favorite shows are only available on region 4 DVDs from Australia. And two, it has auto-play. A lot of times I like to watch a DVD before going to bed. And with this feature I can stop the show or movie at any spot, take the DVD out and turn off the unit. Then when I am ready to finish watching it, I can put the DVD back in the player and it will automatically start from the spot I stopped at. Making it really easy to enjoy my show or movie without having to scan through the disc to figure out where I stopped it. And three, its a Samsung! This is an awesome little Blu-Ray DVD player at a really descent price!!!

Works great when it wants to. I have purchased this three times in one month and made two returns. Return number one: The first player was grinding and whirling loudly when starting up the player. Purchased another one. Return number two: Amazon’s description of player states Region Free, it was only Region A movies. Purchased another one. Waiting to see what happens next with the third one. Absolutely ridiculous!

Wrong picture but the curved face unit i got will let me stack nvidia shield on top so better. The code is vary easy, and works great. Playing dvds of any region without any codes or tweaks at all. Playing blu-rays of other regions press 2 or 3 on the remote and play. Region 1 is the default in us so no code needed. Sold build, good size, cool operation, simple front controls 2 buttons open and power. The remote is feature rich, and my tv is a 60 inch Samsung so total integration. Lan/wifi input seamless updates. My tv cost less because it is not a smart tv but with this player it is not needed.

A very nice player, but the on box controls are very limited and hard to get to/use when you place it on shelving... The controls are on the top of the box and that makes them difficult to see and access.... But the output, speed and overall capability of the unit is 5 star
