BUYER beware!!! Please DO pay ATTENTION to other one star reviews. The one star is for HP and its warranty policy and support staff. I bought this printer back in February 2018, worked fine, not a whole lot of complaints. Bought it because I thought in the long run Id save some money (cheaper ink, less electricity used) when compared to a laser printer. About a month ago I when to print something, the black ink leaked. It leaked so bad the paper tray was soaked and all the rollers were stained. I tried to clean up as much as I could, followed HPs videos, ran cleaning apps from the printer, still smudges when I print. I thought maybe I can wait it out to have the ink dry up. Two weeks later there were still smudges. Almost two weeks ago I called HP for support. I provided all the info required (serial #, print reports, proof of purchase, pictures of the stain, etc). Things only went worse from there. As I was trying to print the reports, the black ink leaked again. So I sent in new pictures. The HP support agent told me Id get a replacement printer. I asked when, she told me in a few days I should get an email asking to verify a few things and then a printer would be shipped out to me. A certified refurbished unit I might add, not a new one. Yesterday I received the email, this time again asking me to provide serial # on the printer and proof of purchase. I replied with the information, a few minutes later I get a response back: "The Proof of Purchase you have provided indicates that Tech Guruu is the vendor of your HP unit. Unfortunately, this is not an Authorized Reseller, and as per HP’s warranty conditions, this voids the warranty of your device with HP (see http://www8.hp.com/us/en/privacy/limited_warranty.html). For further assistance, please contact the merchant for any warranty services on their side." I wrote back no I purchased from Amazon. They replied again telling me Amazon is the platform, Tech Guruu is the reseller, who is not HP authorized. I replied back again asking why didnt anyone tell me this when I first called, and how was I supposed to know Tech Guruu is not an authorized reseller? Furthermore, how was I supposed to know HP doesnt honor warranty if product is purchased from unauthorized resellers? Today I called in person to try to get to the bottom of this, I was basically told no I cant get a replacement printer from HP, and no I cannot speak to any supervisors or managers. I was told that I purchased a printer from the "grey market" on Amazon and that its my own responsibility to find out the warranty. There is a happy ending to this though. I called Amazon support, explained my story, and immediately I was offered a full refund. I guess paying the $119/yr does have its perks... So, the point of my story is this: if you expect the manufacturer to honor its product warranty, its probably best to first understand whats covered and what the terms are. Its definitely a good idea to understand if you need to purchase from an authorized reseller to get warranty. This is not a knock on Tech Guruu or any other third party reseller, I understand everyones trying to make a buck, but I felt I need to get the message out. Perhaps this is something Amazon needs to work out with manufacturers and third party resellers. Who knows how many other consumers out there are going through what I went through. Shame on HP for first promising me a replacement printer then stiffing me based on a technicality. If you stand by your products, it shouldnt matter whos reselling them. If HP is concerned about Amazons "grey market" products, then take it up with Amazon.

I purchased this on 2/4/17. One year and 9 days later the support will not extend the one year warranty. I wish we would have extended the warranty when we purchased it. It still works, but will not print black in on the far right edge of the page.

This printer was to replace my former x476dn due to its ability to scan both sides of a document in one pass Single & double sided letter & legal copies, scanning (under computer control not to computer from printer), faxing (X476 but have not tried 477 as yet but with all other tests I would be surprised if it did not do as well, Speed, overall performance, etc. in wired ( not wireless mode) has been outstanding. For scanning I scan textbooks & other documents in searchable format in batches which are then combined into a single adobe reader document for later use. Some combined files have over 500 pages in them that can be searched for any word(s) of interest. Color prints very quickly as well & though not photo quality are more than usable for flyers, etc. Continuous faxes were sent using the 476, by carefully adding pages below the former group before it was finished, allowing as many as over 300 pages to be sent as one document. Care must be taken when doing this to prevent user caused paper jams. Many items are printed in booklet form using legal pages to save both ink & paper costs with 4 pages per sheet. Most booklet pages can be set up to be easily readable. HP PageWide Pro 477dn All-in-One Color Printer with 2-sided duplex printing & print security (D3Q19A)

Unfortunately, this printer had issues from the start. It wouldnt print via IP, only WSD which didnt always stay connected. The print would go into deep sleep and not wake up without a full unplug from power reset. Support tried to diagnose with no luck, so I returned this after 3 weeks of utter annoyance.

This machine is beautiful from top to bottom. Right out of the box, the design is eye catching, but lets get to functionality. I cant speak to installation because my IT guys took care of that, but this is one quick printer. There is no warming up like laser printers, the quality is better, and this sucker just shoots pages out. I was in shock when I printed for the first time. Where I used to have to wait for our old laser printer to warm up, I can now hit print and the page is waiting for me by the time I walk 50 feet to the printer. Dual side printing and copying is a breeze. Scanning to a network folder works flawlessly. The only thing that they could do better is the scanning and auto feeder. It takes noticeably longer than my older printer, but not a dealbreaker for me. The ink is expensive, but comparable to toner cartridges and the quantity of pages that one cartridge provides is exceptional. With less wearable parts, no developer or drums, It is looking like a good investment. One other added benefit that I like is the ability to mark up pictures. We print out maps a lot. With toner, you cant write on it with many writing instruments. Since this is ink, you can write on it without chipping anything up or having ink from a marker bead up. In addition to this, it is cleaner around the printer. No more random powder when cartridges are changed. Small, but noticeable things. Overall, a great investment.

Wow, this is one fast printer, once it starts printing. Had a little user interface issue with defaulting to tray 1 but was easy to change. Holds more paper than my 8500 or 8600 HP multi-function. Pretty much set itself up, connected to my internet, found my printers, download the uptakes and was ready to go.

It is much faster than I expected. The print quality is great. This exceeded my expectations by far.

I miss the officejet pro x model. I have purchased multiple PageWide Pros and some are great, but I have a few that go to "sleep" and wont wake up until you pull the power plug. No answer from HP, even with the latest firmware updates. I hate to move to a different model but this one has given me multiple headaches.

Update After about 20 months, post warranty, the printer stopped working with a blue screen error message - C4EB867F (internal bus error). Ive reduced the rating based on the poor reliability of this unit. This product is very fast, and the hardware is high quality, and reliable. I reduced the stars because there were a few software/firmware issues that create some problems. The printer is connected directly into a local network with 6 computers, a NAS, and several media servers. Positives: • Very fast printing – even when printing on two sides. • Two sided scanned occurs in one pass, apparently scanning both sides of the document at the same time. This was a pleasant surprise as the OfficeJet Pro products flip the paper over to scan the second side, which increases the chances of a jam. • I experience no jams – printer or document feeder • Great print quality • Waterfast inks – including color ink. The old OfficeJet I had before would bleed color inks if the paper got wet. Negatives (applies to firmware version MAVEDNPP1N001.1629F.00 dated 7/29/2016) • Firmware upgrade reset fax settings, which reverted to settings that kept my answering machine from working. I suggest turning off the automatic updates but leave the notification on. Then you can manually trigger the update and check settings afterward to make sure the settings are correct. • Printer and scanner seem to occasionally get lost – print jobs stop printing until you power cycle the printer. • The scanner disappears occasionally from the “HP Printer Assistant Software” also requiring a printer power cycle to fix. Oddly, when this happens, the scanner is still accessible using the “HP Scan and Capture” app. I use the full functionality software “HP Printer Assistant” because it provides more settings for scanning. • Resetting network settings resulted in losing the printer completely off the network due to having a random IP address set that was inappropriate. I had to manually enter the printer IP address, subnet mask, and DNS setting to get the printer back on line. • Scan to network folder is incredibly slow – it takes minutes for the printer to do each scan to a network folder. This appears to be caused by the inability of the printer to resolve a network name ex: \ReadyshareSFolder. For “Scan to Network Folder”, if you use the IP address of the network location instead of the name ex: \192.168.1.1SFolder then the speed is orders of magnitude faster. Unfortunately, this is not documented anywhere, and is likely a firmware bug. Other notes: In scanning to a network folder, or USB device, you can change resolution, color, file type. In “Scan to Computer”, you can only change the file type from PDF to JPEG. This seemed odd. I noted the firmware version, as future firmware might address some of the problems. However, issues like the occasional inability to print and scan requiring power cycling or network resetting to fix were problems with two OfficeJet Pro printers (L7680 and 8500) under Windows 10, so I am not sure HP knows how to address these problems.
