HP Envy 5660 Wireless All-in-One Photo Printer with Mobile Printing, Instant Ink ready (F8B04A)

Printer arrived July 21, 2017. Let’s get to business…I’m running full (Windows 10) on my (ASUS) laptop. Uninstalled previous HP printer properties or whatever previous printer properties you were using ...uninstall them. Then reinstall new Printer properties from Disk provided or you can (google) the downloadable applications for this printer...just google (HP Envy 5660/5640 desktop set-up application) or go to the HP website. The printer (WILL) come with (2) printer ink cartridges (black and color) just to get you started. The printer (WILL) come with the (1) power cord, but (no) USB connect cord, I used my old HP USB cord to direct connect to my laptop. I pulled my printer out of the box, directly connected USB from printer to laptop, connected power cord and turned on printer. Install the ink cartridges. The printer will give you guidance to set up ink, just read the screen. Always read your instruction booklet and study the diagram so don’t screw anything up while setting up the printer. Ink cartridges go under the scanner, you have to lift up the scanner top, see diagram. The touch screen works beautifully! Make sure to connect the printer to your (wifi), give it access to your router (wifi) network! The laptop is now directly connected to the printer, and is connected to my (wifi). At this point I inserted the disk provided for application install…however my windows 10 laptop would not read the disk. My laptop did (not) read the disk at all. I ejected and reinserted the disk again…nothing! NOTE: I had to download the desktop set up application...just google set up application for HP ENVY 5660/5640 Series or go to the HP website. Let’s go ahead and try a test print. I open a windows document, then select print... under printer properties scroll down, look for and select your new printer (HP ENVY 5640 Series). I did that and WOW! It printed like a champ! Now it’s time to test the (wifi) wireless printing…remember you need to give the printer access to your network... this is key. I walk to another room in my house, I turn on a different or (2nd) laptop that I own, to perform a (wifi) test print. On the 2nd laptop in a different room, I open a windows document... under FILE select Print, then under Printer properties select the (HP ENVY 5640 Series)…Wow! It actually worked! The printer can be (USB connected) to a computer, and still print (wifi) from another device or computer. Make sure your (drivers) are up to date, recommend (Talent Driver) application. Facts: 1. The Printer is compatible with Windows 10 because that’s all I run is Windows 10. 2. Touch screen works beautifully. 3. Printer comes with (2) ink cartridges Black and Color. 4. Does NOT come with USB connector, buy separately on Amazon. 5. Comes with a power cord. Hope this information helps, I know printers can be a pain setting up! Everything depends on what kind of computer you have and what you are running, drivers, etc…be up to date on software, there (may) be compatibility issues, research before you purchase! This is a really nice printer. The printing speed is fast for a inkjet printer and the colors are nice and bright, so it prints really nice photos. I use a lot of printer ink because I print out a lot of knitting and sewing patterns and I had never heard of the HP Instant Ink replacement service. I am really excited about that. Since I print so much, I started with the $4.99 per month plan which allows you to print 100 pages per month. If you print less, then it is only 2.99 for 50 pages per month. The plans go by how many pages you print per month rather than how much ink you use. The printer tells HP when the ink is getting low and they ship you new ink for free. And you can cancel or change your subscription at any time. I also like that this printer can work with only one ink cartridge. I have had many printers that, once one color runs out, you cant print anything at all from it, even if you just want to print in black and white, until you replace that one empty cartridge. That irritates me to no end. With this printer I can print wirelessly from my phone or tablet and Chrome book. Its an all in one, but isnt so huge that it takes up a lot of room. And it was easy peasy to set up and get going. I like this printer very much and I am very happy with is so far. Update 8/12/15 I like this printer so much that I purchased another one for my daughter who was just accepted into the RN nursing program and needed a printer.

SOOOOO much user friendly and light years FASTER than my Canon duplex printer. Color items comes out much nicer and more true as well. I bought this one to replace a Canon for my Mom and was so impressed, I bought one for myself and one for my Husband. Has everything I need and nothing I dont. Scanner is a breeze to use. So uncomplicated. Love the wifi. Only thing I have to get used to us where to place the originals if copying or scanning. Instead of putting it in the upper left corner..........it goes in the lower right. Other than that, for the price...this is a really, really great printer...... I even got my IPad Pro and IPad Air 2 to print. Just have to settings and log onto your wifi "Network" login and youre ready to print from your IPad. When youre done, go back to settings.... wifi and log back into your home usual connection.

Great printer for my use. My first HP color printer had one cartridge and cost $300 in 1984 or so, That would be about $700 today. All it did was print color and black was a mix of colors. In its day it was a good serviceable machine, but we advanced. This machine is incredible. It prints from any of my computers or phone and I can send an email to it to print from any computer in the world. This not only prints from the computer, but copies and scans to a file. It also holds 4 x 6 photo paper in a second tray so no swapping out paper to print one or two photos. Im very happy with it. HP also has good support if you do have a problem.

I have had "fair to OK" luck with previous HP printers, but HP seems to have ditched its line of Photo Smart printers and focused on making a smaller line of printers better. I dont know how long it will last, but so far I am very happy with the responsive color screen, the fast / quiet printing, and the double sided printing works like butter. I goes to sleep when not using it...a big plus, and wakes itself up when needed. The scanner is quick, quiet, and not blinding bright like the old ones. I may update this review in the future if needed, but as I said...so far so good. I am more than happy with this printer (in fact now that I think about it, it is probably the first printer Ive have that it a joy to use. jan. 2015
