Picked this projector up on a $999 woot deal - seemed too good to be true....and unfortunately was. I have an Epson 5030UB projector in the theater now and I have had zero complaints..great projector, but also 3x the price of this projector. When I unboxed the ViewSonic I was skeptical that a 4K projector 1/3 the price and size could match the quality of the 1080p epson. The pictures attached show my side by side comparison of the two. I tried adjusting many settings and while the image is definitely more crisp, the colors are just completely washed out. Lowering the brightness just made all the whites yellow. The Epson image on the right is even projecting in THX movie mode where the colors are more muted. Needless to say, the ViewSonic is going back. For a budget 4K projector in a very lit area, it might be fine. For a dedicated media/theater, it’s too bright and washed out.

I have done a lot of research on the new 4K UHD projectors launched this year. Most of them are at around $1,500 pricing range which is much more affordable than the 4K projectors from previous years. After reading some reviews on projector central, I decided to give this a try because it offered the highest brightness with the lowest price. I wanted a 4K projector that I could use at night for movies and also for TV shows/sports during the day. That’s why I picked the PX747-4K because it’s about 1000 lumens brighter than all the other 4K projectors in the same class. The image turned out to be pretty bright even with my mini blinds opened during the daytime. Picture quality is excellent with 4K UHD resolution, pixels are significantly smaller compared to the ones from 1080p projectors. Pros Bright True 4K resolution HDR compatible 3-year warranty Cons No lens cover No 3D Overall, I am very happy with the purchase. Ive owned it for almost 2 months now without any problem.

This projector exceeded my expectations significantly! Even with some of my lamps on in the living room, I was able to see it clearly. The colors really seemed to pop wonderfully and I am stunned at the resolution. I have 150" pull down screen from Elite Screens and this thing looks fantastic! My old 1080p Epson projector did a decent job but itll be nearly impossible going back to that thing after seeing 4K at this size. With the Epson, I could pick out the pixels from the couch on test and menu items but with this viewsonic 4k, I can barely pick out the pixels standing a foot away from the screen! Its awesome! There is a little bit of fan noise but its about the same as my old projector. Projectors will never be as quiet as TVs.... I had it setup on desk tray to test it out before committing and fully installing it. I will definitely be keeping this unit and will try and sell the 1080p epson!

I originally was undecided between the px727 and px747 because they have similar specs but are slightly different in price, with the px747 being cheaper by ~$200 when I bought this item. I ultimately decided to get the px747 because I would be using the projector in a dimly lit environment that has some light leaking into the room. Because the px747 has higher lumens, I figured this would be the better option for me between the px747 and px727. Overall, the quality of the projector is good. The unit offers the basic features and is the cheapest of the 4k projectors in the market right now. You definitely get what you pay for with this unit. I use it as the focal point of my entertainment center, with a Roku and PS4. I also have a receiver that allows 4k pass-through, so the 4k content from roku/ps4 is actually being shown in 4k on the projector. If you are passing audio to a unit that isnt 4k compatible, you will not be able to see 4k quality. Pros: - Basic standard features - 4k content - Cheap price - Ease of usability - Internal speakers (albeit speakers are mediocre) Cons: - No Ethernet port for direct internet access - No Bluetooth capability - Color quality could be better After 4 months with this projector, I do somewhat regret my purchase. A few reasons for this. Firstly, I think the color on this projector could be improved greatly. I am in a fairly dim room and still the colors dont pop as vibrantly and accurately as the px727 models I have seen. Also, I had issues with the px747. I have noticed the light/lamp flickering on screen. Every so often, the projector glitches out and there is noise in the picture on screen. Additionally, the units speakers stopped working not even 6 months after purchasing the projector. The speakers are currently not producing any sound but the sound will work if connected to external speakers like a soundbar.

I returned this. It’s not bad, it just doesn’t rival the competition. Get the Optoma UHD50 instead. Same DLP chip, better color, controls, and hardware. It’s also much, much quieter.

I upgraded from an Optoma 142x to this projector. For the price I paid ($999) I am extremely satisfied. I was originally thinking of going with the Optoma UHD50 due to its lenshift, but the price difference was significant. The picture on this thing is great. It is clear and focused edge to edge. I was worried about the RGBW color wheel but I think the color looks great. Also I havent noticed any rainbow effect as I did with the 142x. I tried moving my eyes back and forth quickly across the screen to see if I could create the effect but I couldnt. My Optoma 142x had a slight bow (pincushion) at the bottom so I had to overscan a bit to hide that. Not so with the projector - the geometry is perfect. So this seems to have a better lens than the 142x. There is a bit of a "light border" that does spill onto the wall about an inch or 2 and it is noticeable if you are looking for it. But to be honest it doesnt bother me in the least - I think of it as faint bias lighting. I do wish it had a bit a lenshift to fine-tune the position but I was able to get it lined up without it (with a little bit of work using a telescoping mount). For the price I paid I would definitely recommend it, but wait for it at the $999 price.

I want to love this projector, but I’ve been plagued with problems. First one I received had a grounding issue and buzzed incredibly loudly whenever it was turned on. Sent it to get repaired on my own dime ($60) because i didn’t install it immediately and it had been more than 30 days. Yep, had it up for all of one day before I shipped it out for 2 weeks. Got it back and guess what, they didn’t fix it. Got in touch again and they agreed to replace it, but not until they received mine back. They did pay for shipping the 2nd time. But I was without the projector again for 2 more weeks. So I finally get a new projector and I can finally hear the normal noise of the projector and it’s pretty loud. I can hear it during almost any scene that is on the quieter side. It’s not just a fan noise either, there is a slight humming that starts a few seconds after startup. The picture quality is great, but it gets to be very distracting during quiet movies and tv shows. Update 3 months in: The quality of this projector is starting to be questionable. I get intermittent sharpness and contrast anomalies when content is anything less than stellar 4K. It will draw a distinct white like around light objects that is very distracting. Strange thing is, I can change to a different picture setting and then back and the anomalies go away. That’s not the worst of it though. Now the left corner of the image is noticeably blurry compared to the rest of the image. Looks like the lens may be dirty, but I’ve cleaned it several times and it is spotless. I know this is a lower cost projector, but it is still $1300 and I definitely expected more.

Its kind of hard to believe that at this price it would be good. I bought one for use for a couple of off-site training sessions with the intention of putting it my home theater when done. First part of that is done. I used it in two large rooms with the lights on and it was clearly visible from 60 feet back. Turned off the lights and got close to inspect the pixels. Compared to the 720p DLP InFocus and Epson LCD 1080p projectors I have had in my theater, I was very impressed that there is almost no definition to a pixel. It is all very tiny and smooth. This isnt a scientific test, but I think this is going to be a major improvement over my 1080p Epson. Cant wait to try that and do a comparison on contrast ratio.

Pros: very bright. 4k uhd using xrp pixel shift. the difference between xrp and a 4k dlp chip is NOT significant --- You will never notice the difference in resolution unless you can see both projectors side by side viewing the screen very close. Excellent focus. Cons: absolutely horrible black levels. Washed out color. No lens shift. Very bright gray boarder around picture. (ALL 4K XRP based projectors have this boarder. This PJ just has a very bright one! See my upcoming review on the optima UHD 50 ) Summary: I "downgraded" to this projector from an infocus X10 which is a 1080p projector. Yes, the 747 resolution is much better, and the projector is significantly brighter. But the overall picture quality is not based solely on the resolution nor brightness. The X10 was simply years ahead of those in the picture quality, particularly black levels, color, and apparent contrast. If you’re looking for a presentation projector, this is a good one! If you’re looking for home theater use I would suggest considering the optima UHD 50 or another projector that uses an RGBRGB color wheel. If budget is of the upmost importance and you’re looking to watch movies in a home theater type environment, I would suggest purchasing a high-end 1080 P instead of this projector and less you can afford to move to the optima UHD 50 or better. Again, this would be an excellent projector for presentation use, or daytime use of TV in a living room with lots of ambient light or a similar type environment.

Pros - Visually, great value for the money - Bright enough for daytime use without needing to close shades - 2 HDMI slots - USB port able to power a Chromecast Ultra - Useful backlit remote Cons - Audio options lacking (Bluetooth or optical out would be nice) - Loud fan - Gets really hot (can heat up a small room) - VGA? RS232 port? I would have preferred another HDMI port.
