The picture once you spend time in calibration is very nice, though it is wildly off out of the box. It required heavy adjustments to the color levels and gains to get close enough. Also, just get a fiber optic HDMI cable. The plain copper cables just can’t get the data rate needed for 4k. This projector has no keystone adjustments. You are bound to it’s placement or you have to tolerate a keystoned image. This is a major drawback unless the height of the projector in the room is no issue at all. It basically needs to be on center of the screen for 100” which is far too low in my situation. Basically the projector would be hanging in the middle of the room at about 5 feet high and it would look horrible and be a head clearance issue too. Every junky projector I’ve ever used had keystone adjust. It was my mistake not spotting this omission before ordering. At 100” and 11 feet the bottom corners are about 2” in from the edge of the screen.

I was skeptical initially about whether to buy a TV or projector. Then decided on projector. After that started a tiring 4 days of research on which projector to buy. After doing a lot of research, I shortlisted this one and other one from rival brand but ended up choosing this. I think the projector quality in dark is awesome. It’s flawless even on my bare wall( haven’t bought the screen yet). Crystal clear picture quality. I am planning to install custom dyi 120-130” screen. The image doesn’t distort at that width at all. Features wise has everything I was looking for- wireless connectivity, so my firetv stick goes into the hdmi port and I am all set. The native inbuilt speakers are good for beginners, however you would want to hookup a sound system. Alexa integration works, however practically it’s not something I value too much at least right now. Noise level is bearable. It is not super quiet, however when a movie is going on, the noise doesn’t bother you at all.

3 stars for the value of money due to price over the TK800; this costs more. The light border around the frame/image is evident until there is an image on the screen. If only a black screen is projected then the border is there; almost like a dim glow from the LED lights behind the screen-not an issue to me. I upgraded from a viewsonic HD so not a great leap but happy with the improvements. It’s quieter, maybe due to the bigger size. It’s right over my head at about 3 feet and still just a slight sound of the fan. Remote is good with the glow buttons.3D is just as good as the viewsonic HD; Just plays the disc and switches automatically. The FW upgraded automatically also. So far I’m happy with it. Upscales superbly with the Hobit #3, viewing from about 8 ft. My other complaint is no CEC controls like my previous config. Now o have to turn exh equip one by one, not too crazy about that. Daylight viewing is ok to me unless direct sunlight. Menu isn’t that great. The setup menus have graphics while the image menues do not. Not a big deal as the image settings come up automatically. I didn’t see an option for 709-not sure if it’s supposed to have it. I didn’t connect Alexa to it- the last thing I need is for someone to tell Alexa to turn off my movie.

Let me start by saying this projector has a very good picture. You are able to adjust the image size and focus. There is also a 10% adjust for the height which helps. Now here were my issues: 1. There is no keystone adjustments so the height of your screen vs. the height of your projector matters. I would mount the screen first then figure out where the projector needs to go to fill the screen properly. 2. Because the first issue, make sure you get a mount that is adjustable in height or you will be returning the first mount. 3. This projector runs hot so if you put it in a smaller room like a bedroom and you want to close the door, the room will get very hot. So you may need to install a quiet vent fan that pulls hot air out. Kind of like a bathroom fan. If I had buy another projector, I would buy one with keystone correction and also I would consider getting one with LED or laser (if you can afford it).

I purchased this projector to replace a 1080p Benq HC1200 and so far its great! The picture looks amazing, especially when viewing UHD blu rays or streaming 4k via Netflix. Even 3D is a major upgrade over what my Benq was capable of generating. Sit down for a demo of Avatar or IMAX Under the Sea and try to tell me that home theater 3D is obsolete or irrelevant. I havent setup the Alexa feature yet, but then again I probably wont even use it for that. I went with the UHD51A for the budget 4k with 3D option, that came in black.

I just upgraded my Mitsubishi HC4000 1080P projector after many years of use. I really enjoyed that projector, but I didnt know what I was missing! I have 110" screen and ceiling mounted at 15 using the HC4000s largest setting to fill the screen. At the same distance the Optima is on its smallest setting. I have it in a basement with very little ambient light as the HC4000 was very sensitive to it. I DO have about a dozen bright can lights in my finished basement. I can have them on full power and the Optima will shine right through it with an absolutely stunning picture. This thing is a BEAST! Now for the not so good... Took some fiddling to get the Wifi hooked up, and while the interface is better than the HC4000, it leaves some to be desired. They could have made it a lot simpler. I still havent got it to work with Alexa. After trouble shooting on the phone, they sent me an update that requires 3 DIFFERENT types of USB cables and 4 steps to complete. Even if I never get Alexa to work with it, I would be completely satisfied with the PJ. Not sure what Alexa can do other than turn it on and off. Not sure spending too much time on that would be worth that functionality. Anyway, it would have gotten 5 stars if that worked out of the box, or the update was smoother.

the picture on the UHD51A is fine, but the overall experience using this projector could best be summed up as "meh". this morning when I went to turn it on there is no picture, and this is doubly-upsetting because while peeling the plastic off of the projector while unpacking, I accidentally removed one of the stickers covering the screws--came off with minimal effort. Little stickers with super-tiny print. Somewhere there is a middle-manager that thought these were a brilliant idea. Now Ive mistakenly nixed the warranty on a projector that in under a month, surprise! has no picture. Hope its user error again. The packaging could either be described as dodgy, since the sticker was next to the edge of one of the larger sheets of plastic to remove, or downright deceptive. Buyer beware.

This Optoma projector has it all; 3D, 4K HDTV, with all the latest formats and works right out of the box. I bought this model because it works with 4K discs and is one of the few options if you still want to play your 3D media. I was intent on buying a new HDTV but just couldnt give up my 3D movies. The Optoma projector is one of the few and new devices that still project in the 3D format, and plays 4K as well. Bought a reasonably priced screen, cabling and 3D glasses to go with this system and still cheaper than investing in a 4K HDTV. Buy with confidence.

Let me start by saying this is an amazing projector. I prefer watching this over my 55" 4K curved I bought 5 years ago (I paid roughly the same for each). I bought this because I wanted to be able to watch TV with the blinds open. While I can achieve this, it is still a white washed image (could also be from the white elite screen I use), and having the blinds closed is by far the best. The whites are white, and it makes me feel like I am watching a large TV screen, instead of a projector (those who have bought cheap end projectors know what I am talking about). I did not think that I would like to watch the 3D movies as much as I do. It looks much better than any 3D I have seen at Imax or theater, due to needing battery powered glasses. The 4K is clear, I can walk right up to my 150" screen and see clarity instead of pixel blur. Just note, if you are building a computer and want a 4K optical drive, none of the optical drives on the market support AMD motherboards, only Intel (wish I knew this before spending a small fortune on AMD computer parts). The short comings on this projector are all software related in my eyes. I have the supplied dongle for wifi connected, and can connect to my network, but can not get the wifi to turn on. When I click the enter button to turn on, it reverts back to off. I contacted support and they basically told me to refer to the online manual, which I did, which doesnt help my situation. The other flaw I found is the USB media drive support. I have plugged a few flash drives in and it wont read the media I put on it (all supported files per their manual). I am praying the first firmware update to this projector fixes those issues.
