I rarely (if ever?) give five star reviews. To me a five star rating means the product could not be improved in any way. I have had this projector for two years now. It gets used at least once a month and has worked perfectly for what I have asked it to do. I have not asked it to project a 50 image on a wall dozens of feet away, its just not going to do that. :) But for small scale meetings and presentations it has worked perfectly. The size is perfect (very portable), its quiet... in short, I have not regretted this purchase. Ive used it on a table top (with a mini tripod) or mounted on my full-sized camera tripod. Ive used it with a number of different laptops and never had a configuration issue. It just works. If you need something brighter, youre probably going to have to go with a bigger (or at least a more expensive) model. Update 2018 I have owned this projector now for four years (bought in October 2014, its now September 2018, so close enough). It still gets used about once a month, and it continues to just work. The compromise for the size versus brightness and picture size for me is fine; I dont regret this purchase at all. Plus the fact that theyre still selling it four years later should tell you something...

Purchased this when no reviews were available on Amazon or the wider web so took a bit of a risk. I had an old optoma which claimed 3000 lumens, so I was a little concerned this unit wouldnt be bright. In fact, Its amazing. Things I love: * Tiny, literally, its a true micro projector. Fits in palm of hand. * Very bright, widescreen display, even at 4m in a light room. Incredible given size of projector. * Easy setup and remote for keystone etc. * High quality color and great constrast ratio Things I dont love: * It has a couple of small fans which create a high pitched sound all the time, to varying levels (depending on screen mode). During quieter parts in movies or TV its noticeable. Overall, this projector creates an incredible display from a tiny package and Id highly recommend it to anyone in a smaller room or who travels a lot.

I just got my Optoma ML550 after watching artist Ted Nuttall use one for his presentations and some of his art work. He told me the new one would be smaller and it certainly is! At 4.5 inches square by 1.5 inches thick it is remarkably small yet amazingly powerful. I decided to go which the 500 lumen because it is very powerful - I would guess it compares to a 1500 lumen with the other type of bulbs. These units have LED lights which are very durable and energy efficient and long lasting all major pluses. It is a no brainer to hook up and I was up and going in no time which was fortunate because Im not very tech oriented and I had to use it for a presentation right out of the box. Why only 4 stars then? Well I guess a little adjustment for angle would be useful in the bottom front like slide projectors used to have - granted the unit is so small you can just stack books or something under it so this is not a biggy. Due maybe to size it takes a micro SD card instead of a standard SD card. I would have liked to be able to plug in a standard one. I have not tried using a card reading hub to see if that might work - if it does I would be really happy. Please note - this rating is just my first impression for what I think will be a great unit. Also if you are in a small apartment or just dont have room for a big screen tv this unit projects even in 3 D and you can feed in video and such - I have not tried all these features yet - who knows I might get rid of my TV and just enjoy the home theater experience with this little unit.

This is my third projector. My previous two being an Optoma ML500 and an ASUS B1M. I had sold the ML500 because the fan was very noisy, and some movies played from USB with noticeable delays. I purchased ASUS B1M seeing its 700 lumen rating and got it for an offer during Thanksgiving. The ASUS B1M was silent, ran cool. But it didnt justify the 700 lumen it claimed. ML500 seemed better to me considering the color performance and movie performance. So a bit disappointed with ASUS B1M and based on my previous experience with Optoma, I decided to buy ML550. Here is what I like. -Small size, can easily fit to a small bag -Not noisy as ML500. Noise is not distracting for me while watching movies -A budget projector for watching movies, photos Here is what I wished I would have had -You should consider ML750 if budget allows Now to the cons -The Audio out is not of good listening experience, if you are an audiophile. Certain frequencies seems to be restricted. Rather use a DVD/BD player and take the Audio Output. -The focus is tricky. I sometimes find one edge of the screen to be out of focus. -Optoma seems to have removed some menu options for adjusting color when compared to ML500 Overall I am satisfied with the purchase
