This player works well and will play Dolby Vision discs. I have had no problems so far after two weeks of use---and heavy use at that! The Vudu app also is great because it can play movies with Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos sound. I have even bought another one and it is working well so far.

I have 3 4K setup at home. I had bought the X800 from Costco for the family room setup. I was looking for a player for the basement home theater. I read the reviews and the price was just right. I have paired this with a Optoma UHD60 4K projector, Sony STR-DH770 7.2 receiver and a 100" Silver Ticket screen. The setup was simple. Once I connected to the wireless network everything else was a breeze. I like how the player can optimize the picture for the specific setup (TV, Projector), screen size etc. Once I completed the setup, I watched oodles of 4K and Dolby videos from YouTube! The audio & video performance was awesome! Then I watched 4K DVDs (Samsara, Jurassic World, Planet Earth, Journey into Space) and it was great! This is a no frill 4K DVD player that meets my needs and beats my expectations. Highly recommended.

Install Flash Player When it worked had a great picture but 95%of the time it froze up flashing screen and said no hdmi connected but I have all new 4k high speed hdmi direct into tv with all settings in player and tv correct with latest firmware updates on both no matter what different cables used or inputs always the same flashing screen. So all the 1 star reveiws here are right just like the older sony x800 player with even more 1 star reveiws with same problem. I called sony support but they acted like they never herd of the problem before but it is all over the reveiws of these 2 players at all sites you visit. This needs to be fixed soon because I spent thousands dollars on a sony 930e to watch my 30+4k movies on and can not because of this problem.Just look it up before you decide to buy but I have returned mine.

This player does not work well at all. It constantly freezes both with normal bu ray discs and 4k blu ray discs. I cannot even get through a single movie without the player freezing up. Ive returned the blu ray player once to get a new one and still have the same problem with it freezing up. I even have a sony tv so you would think these blu ray players, which are also sony, would work well with a sony tv, but not so. Ive tried multiple hdmi cables and different televisions but have the same freezing problem on both players I tried out. Use your xbox 4k player instead of this garbage if you have one. I will never buy from this seller again as they obviously dont care about selling products thats DO NOT WORK. In summary, Id give this a zero rating if I could because I got no product, just a junk piece of plastic, however Amazon reaquires at least a 1 so that is my rating.

Thought the UI was very bad and slow but this is just for watching blurays which was fine in the beginning. Went to watch planet earth again and the thing was dead. Its hooked up to a UPS so not sure what happened . Tried to get help with sony, no luck. Lucky amazon just refunded me minus a restocking fee.

For playing blu ray and 4K discs this does an excellent job Picture and sound quality are excellent. If you also want to use this for the built in apps to access online streaming services this is terrible. There are only a couple dozen apps available, you cant add any more, and its missing a lot of big name apps including HBO, Showtime, FX, CW, SyFy, and many more.

I cant believe that a player in this price range can look and sound so great. It does Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, UHD 4K and even streams titles on Netflix and Amazon in 4K. It can stream Dolby Vision on some titles. I watched Avengers Infinity War 4K Dolby Vision and Atmos last night as my first movie on it. OMG. The picture and sound is just stunning. Mind seriously blown. I had an older OPPO DVD player but it didnt play Blu Ray much less Blu Ray 4K. There are a few tweeks you have to do in the Settings menu and a Software update. Im using a really fast internet connect (300Mbps) and running this over WIFI and it is just flawless. No one hiccup. Just amazing. Atmos thru my Pioneer VSX 933 and 5.1.2 Atmos speaker setup is crazy great!! I cant recommend this player enough. For both Blu Ray 4K and Streaming it is just the best. I know some have said that it seems flimsy I do not find this to be the case. Its a smaller footprint than most players and it doesnt have a front panel display, but how cares? The onscreen menus are very straightforward and very easy to navigate. This player is awesome!!!

Others reported the same problem I had (flickering/blanking screen in menu/setup screens), and I got that from the beginning. I had it connected to a Sony Z9R, so its not a compatibility issue. I tried multiple connections & resolution settings. Nothing helped. Researching it, it looks like this problem has been plaguing this model all year, and Sony either cant or cant be bothered to fix it. It played videos beautifully, with no issues, but since others reported problems there, I didnt want to risk it developing later. Im returning it. Maybe next year.

Sony seems to be negligent in providing Dolby Vision capability across its line of disc players. At the moment I write this, this is their only model. Dolby Vision is simply amazing. It expands the dynamic range of video to a point where it is almost like looking at an actual scene. The more common HDR10, while attempting to do the same thing, appears rather artificial in most cases. Hopefully, like Blu-ray over HD-DVD, DV will become the standard in enhancement technology. The player is great. The user interface and remote are very simple and straightforward. It plays many different formats of streaming media and discs. There are a relatively small number of apps for some of the popular services such as VUDU, Netflix, YouTube and Amazon Prime. It isnt fancy and maybe a bit light and fragile, but it works perfectly. It seems like a great value for a relatively low price. This isnt mentioned often, so I will tack it onto my review. There is an app called Video & TV SideView that works with this player. It even has a voice control plugin. Well worth picking up.

Ive got more devices than Ive got HDMI ports on my TV, so for three of them, they go through a DNLA-compliant 4K HDMI switch. The old Blu Ray player worked just fine through this switch. When this player is connected through the switch, Ill briefly get a SONY logo on the TV screen and then nothing - the TV sits there with a message on the screen saying "no signal - is it on?" WTF?? I then bypassed the switch temporarily and connected this player to the TV directly. Menus would show at that point, but kept flashing and blanking out fairly consistently. The screen flashing is unacceptable; not being able to go through the switch is even more so, and is an outright deal-breaker. All cables are new 4K HDMI cables, and as mentioned, the switch is DNLA compliant and rated for 4K signals, so theres absolutely no reason for this Sony player to be refusing to send a signal through it. As soon as I submit this review, Ill be contacting Amazon about returning it for an Amazon credit so that I can buy a different player from a different brand. Sony, you just lost yourself a customer.... :-( Im not likely to buy other Blu Ray players from you after this; probably will avoid other products as well...
