Samsung UBD-K8500 UBD-KM85C Wi-Fi 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player (Certified Refurbished) - I took a chance and ordered this refurbished, as Ive had good experiences in the past here with refurb products. The unit arrived in a somewhat flimsy box, with not much padding, but was luckily undamaged so I didnt deduct any stars for it, but thought it worth mentioning. After hooking it up, and setting up network & other features (which was easy) I tested several disks (UHD, regular DVD, a few burned DVDs on DVD-R single and dual layer, and CD) All the disks played fine, and the picture quality was great. Sound was also very good through my Denon AVR. I then tested the various streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu, VUDU, etc) and found they all worked well and also had good quality pic. Overall, a very good player. A little slow maybe, but I can live with that for the price. Now for the reason I took off one star. Ive had several other Blu Ray and DVD players over the years, and this is the only one Ive had that does not continue the movie where you left off, after stopping the disks. Ive even had a few that would restart where you left off even after removing the disk and putting back in. They actually asked if you wanted to resume where you left off, or restart the disk. Not this one. If you stop the disk for any reason and restart it, it starts from the beginning again. It doesnt ask, or flash any kind of message, it just starts at the beginning of the disk. Very frustrating if you accidentally hit the stop button. You have to go into the disk menu and go through the chapter menu to get back close to where you left off. I dont know if this is inherent to this particular model, or related to this being a refurb unit, but Its definitely a black mark on an otherwise very good 4K blu ray player, and the reason I took off one star. I almost took off 2, but it does have a very good picture with 4K Blu Ray & regular Blu Ray, and even makes any regular DVDs look good on my 65" Samsung 4K UHD, so I left at one star deduction.

I was nervous buying refurbished but the unit is working perfectly. It talks to my Samsung 4K TV which is interesting. If i use the 4k player remote to raise the volume there is a delay because apparently the player remote tells the unit to raise the volume which tells the tv to raise the volume, the tv tells the tv remote to raise the volume and my tv remote tells the Vizio sound bar to get louder!.. 1-2 second delay. Weird but I find it fascinating. The picture on the blu-ray discs is outstanding. This is my first experience with blu-ray. I have not tried a 4k disc yet. Some features from my old DVD player are MISSING on this unit which I find surprising. I really miss being able to 1= play with sound at 1.3x speed. I do (did) that a lot for movies that I didnt love or if I was short of time. 2= my old dvd could play 2x speed and still displayed the subtitiles. I did that if I didnt like the movie and just wanted to see what happened or if I was in a hurry. 3= programmable skip search. ie. I could set a button to skip ahead a certain amount of time like one minute... Other negatives on this unit are: the fast forward is hard to activate and I often chapter skip by accident the power light cant be seen unless you are above the unit. Its just a little red/blue light. No other display. Did I turn it off...? Remote is small and awkward Positives: Communicates well with the same brand TV Fast forward is lightening fast as is reverse Picture in Blu-ray is very nice I think it makes my old DVDs look better very quiet loads fast I am happy with this but the negative are annoying

I received this order yesterday. Upon taking it out of the box I could hear loose pieces inside of the DVD player rattling around. Upon plugging it up, hoping for the best, It required numerous updates. That part might be expected. I put in a standard DVD and it played, but it would not play 4K. I put in three different 4K Blu-ray‘s none of them would play. One did start the credits and then the screen blacked out. I went to Best Buy and purchased a different Blu-ray player using the same HDMI cable and television. Everything works flawlessly. I plugged this refurbished unit back up, and the 4K movies would not play. I’m sure not all of the refurbished units are defective, but mine certainly was, along with rattling loose parts inside the housing, and I would not want to get it replaced with another refurbished Adam.

I purchased the refurbished model and three weeks in, it is fine. I do not have a 4K TV so I cant comment on the 4K quality, but the quality on an HD TV is noticebly better than the samsung DVD HD player it replaced. Three relatively minor complaints - the "on" light is small and not visable from most areas of the room. There is no manual on how to customize the streaming screens to show your preferred apps (the online manual is outdated) and the remote that comes with it, combines the forward and fast forward buttons which doesnt work well.

I originally hesitated ordering this player because of some of the bad reviews, but buying refurbished is definitely the way to go. Its been a few months now and i have had no major issues, only minor complaints. The most obvious flaw is the build quality....not a deal breaker, but just something to be aware of. For instance, as others have stated, the disc tray is a bit flimsy but works fine. Another thing i noticed is how it handles scratched discs. Instead of skipping, the screen will go black when it has trouble reading the disc, but it will read some pretty scratched up discs. These issues are nit picking, but someone may find it useful to know. The really good thing is how well this player works! Boot up is really fast as well as initial disc read time. Picture quality is second to none, as well as audio quality. Really so many good qualities about this player to list so if your on the fence, just buy it, you wont regret it.

Never used the unit. It arrived with the the following defect: the remote was unable to communicate with the player. Either the remote or the player/remote interface were defective. I wrote twice to the vendor, but received no reply. The player did work via the controls on the front panel. I returned the unit.

This is an amazing 4-K Blu-ray player with built in Internet streaming and the picture quality is incredibly Vivid!! Even NON-4K Blu-ray movies and DVDs are upscaled to near 4K quality with an incredible Vivid picture. The internet streaming capabilities such as Netflix are also upscaled to 4-K viewing and I absolutely love this product!! The ONLY downside I seem to have with this is every time I turn on the player I have to keep connecting to WiFi when using the internet streaming but I simply just plugged in the Ethernet cable into the back of it and dont have to worry about that anymore.. I absolutely love it! This is a true 4K Blu-ray player and upscaler for everything else

EDIT: I returned this player for two reasons. First, after I plugged this unit into the power outlet, the Cable Modem I had plugged in on the same circuit started randomly rebooting!!!! Took me a while to figure out this player was somehow causing that! I dont know how this player, even when powered off could cause some kind of electrical interference that would cause a cable modem to reboot!?!? But after unplugging this player, the cable modem stopped rebooting! RETURNED!!! Also, while watching a disk, the TV screen would go black randomly for a couple of seconds. It did not happen a lot, but maybe a couple of times each disk. Too bad - otherwise I would have kept this. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ I needed to replace a 10 year old Sony blue-ray player that was on its last legs. Was going to buy another Sony, but all their models reviews seemed to state that they freeze and need to be unplugged which was what my old unit did a lot too. So I figured I would get a Samsung to match my TV. Overall, I think this is a good value. I just hope it lasts! I was leery of a refurb as I only had purchased one other Amazon refurb in the past which worked out great. For me, the unit came in the factory box, and the packaging was professional with everything sealed in plastic. The remote looked brand new, and came with a new battery and a new HDMI cord. The unit itself had scratches on the top like it was in an AV stack. Pros: * When playing a regular DVD, the upscale worked really great. * Easy setup. * Works great with a Samsung TV Smart Controller. * Full feature set, and has some features that others are missing. Cons: * When playing a Bluray disk, the upscale was not as good as I expected. Pretty much looked like standard 1080P to me. * No front display anymore. Seems like all the manufacturers have gotten away from a front display for some reason. * When you power off the unit and power it back on, the disk starts from the beginning and not where you left off. VERY ANNOYING! You have to search for where you left off.
