I bought this August 2017 and for 2 years I thought it was my internet connection that was the problem, only to find out it was this pos. Here is the list of problems with this player: it will not connect to 5.0ghz; only the 2.4. I mainly use it for streaming and for that, its basically worthless, reason being, it takes forever to connect to any of the apps (e.g. Netflix, Amazon, Pandora, etc). The Netflix app is horrible... by the time Ive read the movie description it has already started playing the movie when I didnt want it to and ends up in my "continue watching" section. Because of connectivity problems I have called support on multiple occasions. Today I received an email stating that my warranty has expired and if I wished to receive the "service I requested" (which I did not), I would have to pay an additional $110.00. I paid $59.99 for the player in 2017.... so thats a special kind of magic math. Its a rip off, I have been robbed. Do not buy this product.

Avoid any of these Samsung Blu Ray players. Over the course of a year I bought 2 of them and both had the same problem: it would intermittently shut itself off out of nowhere. It did this while streaming shows on Netflix, watching Blu Rays and DVDs. It started out just being really annoying, then ended up doing it so that whatever you were trying to watch was completely unwatchable.

Like many reviewers I too have had trouble connecting this baby to the internet and getting the You Tube app to work, which was the main reason I eventually choose this model. It seems that I can only get the you tube app to work if there is a disc in the drive. When I have tried to use the you tube app without a disk in the drive it doesnt work, but when I watch part of a DVD then go to the you tube app, success every time. I have not used the amazon, Hulu or other apps because Im not really that interested. My main interest was watching the British sci-fi series Blakes 7, a show I had only previously seen a few episodes. I also had some Blu-ray/DVD combos I had not watched and also bought myself the Blu-ray version of Doctor Who: Spearhead from Space. (Can you tell Im an anglophile yet?). Discs play with no problems and as I stated it seems to solve the issue of the apps not working.

This is a great product! This is probably the first time I bought a product that was under rated by its own sellers? I have owned several BR Players and this by far, for what I paid, is the best ever. I have spent $400 plus on several BRPs. They were complicated to operate, to many options! Spent to much time verifying options each time I used them? and they all broke within two years! I was very disappointed to say the least. Deciding to analyze my Blue Ray player "Needs", I decided I didnt really need all the bells and whistles (Extra settings I didnt understand anyhow). I just needed something to play my BRs, DVDs and other media. I was quite pleased with the available media capabilities of this particular device and for under $70 bucks too! My TV like most these days does what my new BR Player cannot, which isnt much at all. And its much simpler to use. Its simple, has a great user interface, very self explanatory. Out the box, software updated and operating in under 5 minutes. Simplicity, I Love It!! My old BRP had so many adjustments I wasnt ever sure if I had them configured correctly causing me to adjust things constantly. This BRP, out the box provides a perfect picture, great sound, and as I already said many media options including Wireless internet access. Its truly Plug-nPlay. I will buy again. Great for people who like simple operation without the need to adjust "things" all the time like maybe a teen would do. I should have bought this thing years ago but like most I thought at the time because it cost more the quality was better, because it had all these user interface options it was worth the extra $$, and of course...the more expensive the better...I discovered none of this was TRUE by any means! It may be under $70 but it operates better than the one I paid $400+ on!! Oh Well....live and learn I guess??? I know Quality dictates a higher price be paid with most things. Not true here. I searched reviews up and down and never found a viable convincing review for a BR/DVD player. Most I read spoke to the "Technology" incorporated into the unit which in my head equalled "More money and more aggravating to use". Hope this review helps some one thats looking for a simple but modern BR/DVD player maybe go for this one, Its a good choice for baby boomers and the "Tech" savvy alike in my opinion.

Works perfect! Also if you are trying to hook up a surround sound using the digital out coaxil if trying to hook up red and white audio you need a digital to analog converter. I had one and to hook up the digital rac coaxial i didnt have a digtial single cable so i separated a male red and white rca cabel to a single white rca cable hooked to the digital coaxil cable out hook up it up to the digital to analog converter ran a the red in white rca to the converter to the surroun sound and works like a charm. Thats only if you need to run a red and white rca cable do you need a rca digital to analog converter but if you have a surround sound sound bar that has the single digital out then you only need to run a single rca cable to the sound bar with out a digital converter but if your surround sound or sound bar useses the red white rca then you need a digital to analog converter. Hope that helps.

I am sorry but after 3 months I am changing my original review. Just as many others, my wireless connection has dropped out. I monitor it on the operator panel of my WiFi device and can see it dropping in and out. I am in the process of upgrading the software that I downloaded from their web page and hope this fixes it. I doubt it. Samsung BD-J5700 Curved Blu-ray Player with Wi-Fi (2015 Model)

After 2-1/2 hours of trying to get the player to connect to my router, I gave up. I did every troubleshooting technique I could find online via Samsung and others, as well as a few things of my own, reset my router, changed my router password, manually put in IP address, etc., and could never get it connect. The player could find my router, but that was it. Im returning it. It isnt worth the hassle, and Id like to use all the features it claims to have.

I miss not having an on/off light. Recently the "smart" aspect leaves my wanting because it keeps dropping my internet connection so I cant watch Netflix or Amazon Prime without continual resetting it. Several times it locked up my TV and I had to unplug the unit before I could even watch cable TV. I keep getting an "update software" request and if I indicate "yes" it starts the process and then stops before completion. I would not buy this unit again. UPDATE: After about 6 months of use it stopped working completely and I have to replace it.

Sucks. Restarts and errors out. Worked for a day or two and have had network connective issues since. Will be in the middle of streaming an episode on Netflix and it either turns off or goes to the home screen. Returning.

This unit is not worth the hassle. If you want a cheap Blu-ray player, go for it...if youre hoping to have a smart Blu-ray player that actually connects to the internet dont bother. Playing Blu-rays and DVDs offers decent audio and visual quality, but the unit will only be able to stream online content a good 5% of the time. Oh, and customer support over the internet connectivity issue sucks. Samsung claims support isnt free unless you first call customer support for your internet provider and every single streaming service you use first just to make sure the issue isnt their fault. If you admit to not calling them first their tech support will very aggressively try to charge you $90 for random services. The only help you get from Samsung is an advisement to unplug your router and perform a hard reset on the unit or accept a refurbished Blu-ray player as a replacement (that they want to charge an additional $90 for; Im not sure why Samsung is so obsessed with getting $90)
