My OPPO BDP-103 just arrived, and I must say it is a pretty darn good product. It got itself onto my IP Address with no problem, and the instructions and set up went pretty easily. It is a definite upgrade, sound wise, from my old Sony SACD and BluRay players. So, I got to rid myself of two items on my shelf and replace them with one. So, $500 for BOTH a new SACD AND BluRay player makes the price easier to swallow. Some unexpected plusses...I was able to plug my ROKU into it instead of my TV, and so I now get 5.1 along with a stellar picture from streaming apps like Netflix and VuDu. Too cool, I must say! The picture from the OPPO is noticeably better than from my old (but quality) SONY BluRay player, which I had no complaints with to be frank. The load times on the OPPO are MUCH shorter than I experienced with the SONY, but hey, what would you expect from a unit 8 years newer? Like I said, my 8 year old SONY was a quality unit, but the 103 tops it picture wise. One complaint. I havent yet figured out how to get the subwoofer to play the bass parts on stereo-only SACD discs. It plays the bass through the front speakers as if I had them set to "large". I have everything set to "small" in order to channel bass through my nice subwoofer, and the OPPO defeats this. Anyone out there that knows what I am talking about also knows...hearing the bass booming through the subwoofer/LFE is better than hearing it through the much smaller drivers on the cabinets. A call to the help line may fix this. Ill let you know. Oh, anyone that has figured this out, Id appreciate you sharing the secret (wink). There is a workaround...play it through the DVD audio set up, but I have analogue hookups for the SACD stuff. Hearing it through the HDMI port isnt the same. 4 3/4 stars. I love this unit.

If youre looking for a player that does it all at an excellent price, the Oppo BDP-103 is THE choice. Everything about this product is astounding! When it arrived, I couldnt believe the excellent way it was packaged. Ive seen items that were much more expensive and delicate, packaged with less than half the care! The cables and extras were unbelievable as well! THIS PLAYER IS BUILT LIKE A TANK!! Very solid unit! Now...to whats important. Im a major music fan and this universal player is not to be believed. I purchased (3) SHM SACDs prior to its arrival as a reference and was completely amazed at the sound! I went on to play an array of red book cds and feel my collection has been transformed into something beyond their original quality!! This player has a vast array of capabilities that I havent put to the test as yet but can say with all confidence that it is worth the price as an audio player alone!! So....use your imagination as to how it will perform as a universal player in your theatre/audio system. Buy the Oppo BDP-103, you will not be disappointed!!

Tired of ill fated designed half hearted Blue Ray players at your big box stores? Dont want to commit the 4 to 5 digit money on a high end spread. The Oppo 103 is a great way to go. $499.99 gets you in with high end touches as QDEO video processing for the details done right. Proper 2k to 4k scaling. Sabre ESS DACS inside for some fine music, and movie play from directly the 103. That is right, you could use the 103 as a processor Preamplifier too. Yes, only 1 HDMI in, but look at this for a moment. Your collection of Blue Rays, CD and SACD played well. Streamed content too. You plug in your tv decoder box, add powered speakers, or amps and speakers, away you go. Dont start about a tuner either really? I said streamed ability like Pandora. Who needs FM? Netflix, You Tube amongst the usual streaming guest here. The Oppo does them well in an easy to follow idiot proof GUI. Inside you find care, isolated, multiple regulated power supplies for various stages. Isolated transport, and more. This not a 1 board computer nightmare noisy duck soup affair with cheesy transport in an mostly empty box. This is a chunky beast. Assembly is excellent. Care and packing are tops without being silly. Sort of like Apple in a way the presentation of packing and accessories packing. Shows they really care at Oppo. Performance. Video is stellar. On my Sharp LED tv just amazing the color, and detail in the black and white. Audio is streamed to my Emotiva Preamplifier Processor the XMC-1 so sound is that. Which I love. Setup is tragically simple. Anyone may do this with a just hint of A/V in their veins. Instructions well written, and complete. The setup menus follow logical order, and not a mess of buried nested menus like the stuff I see at work. Everything is where you would expect it for audio and video setup options. Who needs this player. Everyone who loves music, and movies without a doubt needs this great value Blue Ray Player. No I did not say "CHEAP", because for its price you could buy a many cheap switch mode power supply junk at you big box store many times over. Considering their build, you probably would. Or you could by the OPPO once, call it a day for a long time. 1 HDMI input, 2 USB inputs, Coaxial, Optical, and 8 analog outputs. RS-232 connection compliant with various remote/automation solutions, or implementation. This player just does it. If there is a bad side to the 103, I havent found it yet. I have been doing A/V for many years, and this Oppo bdp-103 is in my top components I have had the pleasure to use. In the same company, the Tandberg TCD-3014 cassette deck, the Emotiva DC-1, and recently the Emotiva XMC-1, and the Otari MX-5050 reel to reel. This is some fine company. Notice, not the most expensive, but the most compelling for their intended purpose of design. Winners all. The Oppo Digital BDP-103 gets my full Recommendation.

Transformational! As other reviews state... This is likely the best investment you can make for your home theater. Ive had it for only a few days now, however Ive played just about every type of media it can take including CD, SACD, DVD-A, DVD, BluRay, mp3, m4a, DSD, PCM. Every single thing Ive watched or listened to has been a revelation. I believe that firmware updates over the last several months must have addressed some of the issues that appear in some of the older reviews of this product, as Ive encountered no problems at all. Netflix works perfectly, Ive encountered no interface or connector issues. Also, I think its important to note that the BDP-103 has a 2-year warranty with OPPO... I called them to confirm this prior to purchase. I have a Marantz receiver, and the OPPO is finally allowing me to hear the full capabilities of that system. Im afraid Ill have to start looking for a 3D TV also now. I cant wait to see what the Oppo does for 3D! This unit does far more, far better, than other manufacturers units of twice the price. And the difference between this playing a DVD or bluray is night and day compared to others in the <$500 range. Stop trying to talk yourself into it... Just get this.

Have you ever spent more than you initially wanted to for an item, only to realize the moment you start using it that the OTHER, cheaper stuff you bought was the REAL waste of money? This blu-ray player has done just that. - I can play lossless DTS-HD videos from my laptop to the player with no stuttering - through the WIRELESS connection. Wow! It was just a test that I thought would fail, but it didnt. (Id recommend doing a direct ethernet cable connection from your modem or router versus wireless). - It plays scores of video and audio codecs - making the hassle of selecting only particular files to play - disappear. - Love dual HDMI outputs; one for the receiver, and one for the TV. - Excellent front panel display, with easy to read and convenient information on the source being played. - Quick menu loading times - Outstanding picture quality. Crisp and clean, although the reds are just verrrry slightly hot. But it can easily be reduced either by a) the players wonderful video settings options, or b) through the TV settings itself. - Super-solid construction. Simple, but classy look. For many years, Ive owned scores of VCRs, DVD players, and at least 5 different blu-ray players. This replaces my Panasonic DMP-BDT500 - which is no slouch, but lacks good codec options, no SACD support, and has a TERRIBLE remote. I thought I was stupid to get the Oppo to replace a player that works very well for playing blu-rays. It was silly of me not to have done it as soon as it came out! I have never owned a movie playing device that has satisfied me as much as the BDP-103.

I bought this $499 BD player based on many good customer reviews. The dual HDMI outputs is very useful. I connected one HDMI output to TV & the other HDMI port to the A/V receiver. When the receiver is off, the audio output automatically sent to TV. The setup MENU is user friendly and well organized. The firmware upgrade via network was done flawlessly. PRO 1. excellent video and audio quality 2. fast & quiet loading on DVD & Blue Ray discs - typical around 30 sec from initial power-up. the loading time is shorter - around 5 sec if power is already ON. 3. dual HDMI output ports 4. user friendly MENU setup 5. multiple function information display - Dolby & DTS HD display, repeat function, etc. 6. play MP4 video file from USB port is also convenient - enjoy high quality video MP4 file downloaded from Youtube. 7. play old VCD disk CON 1. price is high, but it worth it. 2. remote control is kind of heavy 3. HDMI input port takes more than 30 sec to show video

This is such a nice piece of equipment. Beautiful picture quality exceptional sound quality, built like a freaking tank. I held off on this purchase for a while because of the high price but it is well worth it. Sounds great with my Flac music files, plays all the MKV movie files on my hdd flawlessly. Plays just about every kind of disc you could think of and looks stunning doing it. Set up was simple, hooked to the internet with cat 6 cable with no problem, programmed into my harmony remote and instantly intergrated into my Home theater. So far I am loving this unit. Seems to look and sound better then the ps3 that it replaced.

Chuffed to bits with this.Wanted a Blu Ray player to go with my new Philips 42PFL6008S TV.Looked on the internet and on the high street to get an idea of what was available (my last purchase was a Panasonic DMRE50 recorder about 10 years ago!!!!).Talked to a couple of mates at work and one had an Oppo BDP105.Never heard of Oppo before so I went to have a look at his system.I was impressed by the build quality of the Oppo as well as the sound and picture. Had another look on the internet and was in 2 minds whether to spend so much on a Blu Ray player.Anyway I went for it and ordered the Oppo BDP103EU online that evening.I got a phone call from a representative at Amazon shortly after placing the order to confirm some details and the item arrived the following morning.Everything about this player and remote control unit screams quality. If you are serious about movies and want a really decent system then get an Oppo....10/10.

I took a lot of heat from my family for spending so much on a Blue-Ray player. But, the lesson is this, you get what you pay for. This player replaced a Vizio player as that manufacturer decided not to release any new firmware update which results in certain new Blue-ray discs not playing on the Vizio device. This product screams "Quality", "solid" from the minute you open the box and touch the product. It is heavy, solidly constructed and oh so easy to use. Now, the picture, I am in no way an audiophile or videophile (if that is even a word), but the difference is very noticeable. I could see colors and shades I never saw before. No more jittery videos, just crisp, pure audio visual ecstasy. My kids love the one button click to turn any 2D movies into a 3D movie. Its obviously not as good as a standard 3D movie, but it is very convincing. It also loads Blu-Ray discs FAST!, no more waiting for discs to load. It also supports 4K upscaling, but I do not have a 4K TV yet, however, it is good to know that if I eventually upgrade to a 4k TV, at least this player will continue to work with it. I am very satisfied with this purchase and hope to enjoy this for a long time.

Amazing!!! Succinctly stated...this is how I rate this player. Up until now, I have used a very expensive Pioneer Elite BDP-05 Blu-Ray player. That player tested my patience every time I used it. It took 20 seconds after pushing the power button to open the drawer, another 20 seconds to figure out what kind of disc you inserted and another 30 or so seconds to begin play. Drove me crazy! I had an older Elite DVD player that I used for DVDs and SACDs. A buddy clued me into Oppo. I researched for months and finally took the plunge and ordered it from Amazon. Set up was a breeze, it immediately and automatically and quickly updated its firmware. It loads and starts playing Blu-Rays in about 20 seconds. The sound and picture are at least as good as the Pioneer Elite player (which was a 2008 model). Everything about it is faster and better. Pandora Radio streaming is wonderful for those days when i want to hear new music. But probably the feature I like the most is that I can plug in a small button size 32GB flash drive into the included dock, plug that into the rear (thank you, Oppo) USB port and I immediately have thousands of tracks of my music available. This is much faster than streaming from my PC via the home network. Gracenote finds the album cover online for each track and displays it on the TV. All in all one of the finest performing components Ive ever purchased....well, at least since a Sansui QRX-6500 Quadraphonic receiver I purchased in 1973. Im keeping the Pioneer Elite BDP-05 because it does a great job with CDs (though slow loading) and because it is beautiful and matches my Elite receiver.
