Picture and audio are fine with this unit - both 4K and 3D, however there were a few problems with it, and I would advise you to stick with a newer model. First off, there was a mechanical problem with the disc loading mechanism. I ignored it for a while, but I finally sent it to LG for warranty repair, which they just did. They paid all shipping, so that was good. However they completely ignored the other problem I sent it to them for... Some 4K discs have noticeably out of sync audio. Audio is about 1/5 of a second ahead of the video. The LG player has the latest firmware, my cables are rated for 4K, I have a new Sony AV receiver (which can give me a cumbersome work-around for this problem). When I swap the unit out with another 4K player (different brand - long story, but I have two), the sync problem goes away. So the problem is with the LG UP970 - it just cant handle correct sync with some 4K movies. By the way, this particular unit has no ability to adjust the audio sync, unlike the other brand player. Fortunately, my receiver can fix the problem, but it means I have to go into the settings for particular 4K movies only, and then undo it whenever I want to watch anything else. One feature I miss on both 4K players I have is there is no time display on the unit. They both have a very minimalist look. If you want to know how far you are into a movie or how far you have to go, you have to select an option that displays it on the TV screen itself. This is horribly intrusive to the viewing experience. I would like to be able to just glance down at the player and see where I am. The remote for the LG is better than the other brands. Buttons are more visible in a darkened room and easy to navigate. Since I have an LG television, the player interfaces well with the TV. The other brand player I have has its own problems, which is why I bought the LG one to replace it. They were both bought in 2017, and I can only hope that newer technology has resolved the annoying audio sync issues.

Totally confused by what all these other reviewers are complaining about. Im hearing zero noise playing Blu-ray or 4K discs; completely silent. Fantastic player in my opinion. The menus are very minimalist. If youre the type who loves cycling through dozens of menus, this isnt the model for you - but if you appreciate getting right to the stuff that matters, youll appreciate the UP970. Really like the front facing USB port and the model supports MKV and H.265 standards! Some are complaining that this model only supports Youtube and Netflix 4K streaming. Ive never used my BD Player as a means to access those services - that always either came from the Smart TV or Chromecasted to TV. Seems a bit nit picky to me.

I was concerned when buying this because of some of the reviews I’ve read mentioned that it had a lot of motor noise. I’ve always had good experiences with LG products, so I took a chance. I can not hear the motor if I try. The video quality and sound are amazing. This is a great player and a great value.

This is an otherwise-fine Blu Ray player made absolutely worthless by the noise it makes when playing certain 4k Blu Rays. I measured mine at 70 dBa with the Blade Runner Final Cut 4k Blu Ray paused. Its about as loud as a vacuum cleaner, and makes hearing the quiet parts of films impossible. I cannot believe LG released such a poor quality product. Dont buy this player unless you are deaf.

Plugged in and was up and running in seconds. Had to get this because my PS3 for Blu-Ray duties looked terrible on my 4k TV. No crazy noises like the other reviewers stated, and I am not using any of the other features since I have other dedicated sources for that. Will update if I find any defects or issues.

Needed this accessory to work with the new LG UHD 4K, 3D capable TV. The passive glasses work the same way as the movie theater glasses. Much less eye strain than the Active glasses for my older Panasonic HD, 3D capable TV.

Like others have mentioned, this player will produce a loud humming or whirring sound while playing certain 4K discs. It gets so bad that you can hear it over the dialogue / sound of the movie, pulling you out of the experience. Pulling the firmware that supports Dolby Vision is just another slap in the face to the people who paid good money for this player. LG, you messed up. Its time to recall this player and try again.

This is 1st and only 4k HDR Ive owned. Christmas was OLED upgrade so went with LG model to take advantage of easy compatibility. Love how it knows you turned on and TV switches. Now, if they can just get up and insert disk for me. Haha. Internet section is fast. Have on fast Wi-Fi but tried on wired and no difference. Usually wire things but wife doesnt want all the wires so for this I let her win. Besides, LG OLED has fantastic internet/streaming options and use those exclusively. Player has very good internet section so if your TV doesnt you have great connectivity options. Cant compare to anything else...sorry. But this thing is loud, like Loud! Have enclosed glass cabinet and it is still loud. Wow. Once sound comes on it is not distracting. Reminds me of noise from old VHS deck. No problem with play back except very first disk I watched. Froze and needed to restart. Maybe behind the screen upgrade did trick but never a problem since. 4k is all we buy now. If next/newer version addresses noise it could be a 5

Picture quality and sound were great, especially on discs with Dolby Vision HDR. No major issues hooking it up or getting it to pass 4k HDR. The player UI is pretty outdated looking, but not a big deal once you start playing the movie. However, when playing 4k UHD Blu-rays, the player made an obnoxious whirring sound, about as loud as a standard house fan, although some discs were louder than others. I tried 4 or 5 different UHD Blu-rays but had the same issue with all of them, where the player began making a loud whirring sound as soon as the disc was inserted. I returned it for a refund as I dont want to spend more time worrying about whirring disc drives.

The player I got was unable to play any disc for more than 30 minutes without the video flickering then cutting out completely. Restarting the unit is the only way to "fix" the issue (for the next 30 min.) Most of the time the player doesnt remember the time index on the disc, putting quite the damper on the movie viewing experience. I contacted LG support and they recommended changing cables and ports (on the TV) as well as performing a factory reset of the device. I followed these steps but ended up having the issue again. For the half-hour its working, the quality is fantastic. Dolby Vision works great and upscaling of 1080p movies is excellent. Unfortunately, Im returning this player because of the aforementioned issues.
