When it came I loved this it is a very simple Blu-Ray player. I dont want apps or fancy User Interfaces (Samsung is way to busy with its UI). Any way love 4k however there is as of yet limited content. the reason I got this was I have a LG TV. After getting my Second 4k movie (Figured first disc was bad as that blu-ray playback is nice and quite) I found out I got one that buzzes during 4k play back. This is not an Audio out issue or anything to do with HDMI. The Drive in the device is really loud. Called LG Customer service seemed less than helpful. Referred to Lotus International Company. I will update this review with the outcome. UPDATE: 8/4/2017 - I did not save the box for this player, first time in my life I did not do this. A box arrived today from LG, lots of bubble wrap and a shipping label. Unit has been boxed and will ship on 8/7/2017 UPDATE 8/22/2017 - Called as that "Turn Around Time" could be up to ten days. The representative did not understand what I wanted and told me that I should have received the unit. After working through dates and tracking numbers, she did see that the delivery status was for the delivery of the unit to LG. She now indicates that upon further review "Brief Hold" The unit is in need of parts and will be in the repair shop for up to 22 business days. Next Update 9/21/2017 ----- Really? UPDATE 8/30/2017 - Well the Player has been returned and the same problem exists, so disappointed. so far the the only thing LG has done is added scratches to the unit. Called LG and was advised the unit would need to be repaired again. I will get this in the mail by 8/31/2017 and see what the next round brings. UPDATE: 9/28/2017 - Live Chat with Support today(Leslie Ann), the unit was received 9/7/2017. As per LG THey are waiting on parts... No word Yet FINAL: 10/11/2017 - LG called to day and indicated the unit could not be repaired and a full refund will be issued, Ordered OPPO 203...The End I am glad LG came through in the end, however I will look elsewhere for my next purchase. PS the Last woman who called was the nicest of the bunch and a really nice lady. LAST ENTRY 10/19/2017 OPPO 203 is in and wow how unremarkable.... Really in the best way though, you put the oppo down, you connect the oppo, you tweak the setting minorly leaving most to auto. Next thing you know DVDs look great, Blu-Ray looks Great!!, This is why I bought all of those 3d titles wow!!!, Oh 4k is so worth it. My wife has learned to use the OPO and did not have a single issue all weekend. BUY THE OPPO...NO ISSUES - GREAT RESULTS

Other reviews mention this player sounding like a lawnmower or weed-wacker while playing DVDs. For almost a month I did not know what they were talking about. It was as quiet as a church mouse through multiple DVDs, both 4K and regular Bluerays. I wondered just how picky and noise sensitive these people were. Had they been watching Lawnmower Man when they heard it? The Exorcist? I thought them batty... Then the very night I was showing off my awesome new home theater to a friend (the 4K version of 5th Element) the most God-awful noise started up. Holy Smokes it was terrible! I remembered those bad reviews and checked my Amazon app to see I had two days left to return it so I boxed it up straight away. I only bought this as a combo with my LG OLED TV which is superb, so nothing against LG in general. Ill add that review separately. I can only assume they will fix the noise issue at some point but for now I have to give it the review it deserves. When it worked without the terrible noise it was heading for a 4 to 5 star review so understand why I am giving this low score. I advise waiting on this one for now until they say theyve fixed the glitches.

The player works well as long as you dont want to watch 4k blu rays . . . at which point, the drive noise from the player will be louder than your surround system. It was a bit loud when I first bought it but it has gotten significantly worse over the last month. When playing DVDs, no drive noise. Unfortunately, since I bought this player primarily to play UHD discs, it is pretty much worthless. It appears from other reviews that some players are noisy and others are not. Im pretty upset about this. It would be one thing if I just happen to get the unlucky one but reading all of the over reviews on line, it appears noisey units are quite common. That said, as long as you are willing to watch with ear plugs, the video output is quite nice, especially UHD content. I would not recommend this to anybody that actually wants to play 4k blu rays. Time to contact LG support. Update: 11/20/2017 Ive received the unit back from LG repair and Im lowering my rating to one star. According to the service statement in the box, they repaired the tray open/close mechanism which 1) was not the problem to begin with and 2) wasnt broken. Unfortunately, since it was "repaired" the drive mechanism is even louder than before and is now loud when playing DVDs. In other words, it is now completely un-usable with any optical media. I will be contacting LG repair again.

(Revised after replacement). The replacement play has the same build month but is not noisy. This unit is now a typical bare-bones UHD player -- which is what I wanted. This player can be very noisy. At worst its about as twice as loud as electric hair clippers. I initially thought this was build date related but the noise appears to related to the disc and where it is on the disc. With a BD there a constant hum which isnt too bad. With UHD it can be very loud and then quiet. With both disc types its noisy in the menu. With BD its quiet almost all the rest of the time. With UHD it can be noisy and then just stop or stop after a pause/resume. Unfortunately I only have two UHD discs to test with. Ive ordered a replacement and if either of them is acceptable Ill keep one and return the other. If neither is acceptable Im going to try another brand.

Everything the other bad reviews said about this unit is true, period. I was hoping that I would "luck out" - no such luck. The worst part? Wow it sounded like it was grinding up my discs! Cmon LG what the H--- were you thinking!???

Owned this player for almost one year. Initially, video was very nice on my OLED TV. great color saturation and contrasts. However, I gave it two stars rating for two reasons. First, it is VERY loud when playing 4K discs. I have all my electronics in a media closet behind the main seating area. When playing DVDs and Blu Rays it is quiet; but, play a 4K disc and it sounds like someone is running a weed eater near you. Even though the media closet door is closed, we can clearly hear it in our living room. My second complaint is the latest Dolby Vision (DV) firmware update (Mar 2018). Yes, LG finally came out with the firmware update, but it ruined my player. I can now play 4K DV discs, but that is ALL I can play. I can no longer play DVDs or Blu Ray discs, see the players menu, or interact with lower grade discs. The tech blogs suggest LG screwed up the regional code, but since I cant reach the menu screen I cant update or fix any aspect of the player. Im now forced to send it back to LG for repair. I would like to say that 4K discs with DV are beautiful on my display, but the overall screen is now darker. DV is supposed to increase the light output of the display.

I had high hopes for this player. It has two HDMI out, one for your TV, one for your surround sound and It was supposed to get a Dolby Vision firmware update, but that never materialized. The disc drive is a bit loud. but I can overlook that as I easily drowned that out with the booming Surround Sound. What did this player in was an occasional hiccup in playback. It would randomly stutter briefly and even occasionally freeze up. The discs play perfectly in our XBOX One S, but we wanted a dedicated player with DV and dual HDMI. Absolutely cannot abide stutters and freezes. Have put too much money into my OLED and surround sound to let a funky business movie player that didnt get its promised DV update spoil our 4K UHD presentation of THE DARK KNIGHT. Youre out of here UP970. See you later!

Purchased for compatibility with a new LG OLED 65E7P 4K UHDTV and to be able to play and stream both the HDR10 and Dolby Video HDR formats. (Later learned that after almost a year, LG has not released their promised firmware upgrade for Dolby Vision.) My old LG Blu-Ray HD player has run perfect for over 6 years. The UHD HDR picture played by the UP970 was beautiful on the OLED. BUT, the player spun disks with a loud background noise something like an electric shaver or a coffee bean grinder. Impossible to watch a movie due to the grinding noise being louder than the movie audio. The UP970 was vibrating - felt like the disk player was unbalanced when spinning some old Blu-Ray HD disks and most new 4K Blu-Ray disks (for example 4K UHD Wonder Woman). Old DVD disks played without the grinding noise - maybe a slower RPM? From all the poor reviews on Amazon compared to few or no noise problems reported with the UP970 on Crutchfield or BBuy, maybe LG unloaded second quality players on Amazon. Returned the UP970 with no hassle under Amazons great return policy. Purchased an Oppo-203 from Amazon (fulfilled by oppodigital in CA) for over twice the cost of the UP970, but the Oppo runs silent, provides a distinctly better picture and audio surround sound, and also plays Dolby Vision. Hope this review helps someone avoid my mistake.

Like a lot of other reviews, my player is exhibiting very loud noise. These issues are only with 4K discs, not with regular Blu-ray discs, and begin as soon as the disc enters the player. The player was working fine for 6 months and Im not sure why the noise issues started now but they arent going away. Im going to try contacting LG customer support and Ill update this review if anything changes.
