I purchased this bluray player for two reasons: 1. It streams Amazon Video 2. It loads discs faster than my old Samsung bluray This unit has an option for Amazon; however, it goes away when the software is updated. To get it back, you need to reset to factory settings, which automatically updates the software every time. Each time you reset factory settings, you need to reestablish the connection to your WiFi. Putting in your password is clumsy, awkward, and cumbersome. I called LG tech support, and there is no way to turn off the automatic updates. Now for the streaming. This machine doesnt seem to know what streaming is really about. I have a 75Mbps connection to the internet. My WiFi router is AC/n/g/b/a on dual band. My living room laptop consistently connects at 144Mbps to my LAN. Fast, no problems here. However, this LG BP550 will only stream for 3-8 minutes before either indefinitely buffering or locking up. The problem is either connectivity or the on board RAM that cannot be increased. You have to press the BACK button and then hit resume. Sometimes this will work, sometimes not. Remember, if you go back to the main menu, or turn it off, the updated software now precludes you from re-entering Amazon Video. You will have to reset the factory settings and reconnect to your WiFi. Why bother? 2. This machine does load discs quickly and starts playing quickly. The quality of bluray disc playback is excellent. DVD upscaling leaves a bit to be desired on the LG BP550. I hope I have saved you some time. Do you know of a machine that meets my two criterion at the top? Please let me know by leaving a comment.

Had about a week. Now when trying to use it just says no signal on the channel & power light pulses if you try to turn it on. I can unplug the power cable and back in to seemingly reset it to work sometimes. Unit seems to get too hot in a spacious area. Going to file a return & try a different brand. Especially when it was 100$.

So I have a 4K tv and a PS4 pro with 4K capabilities but could not play 4K discs. I went ahead and bought this 4K Blu-ray player. What I love the most about this is that it does not try to be a "Smart" device, it does not have YouTube or Netflix or anything like that, what it does have is a good picture quality. The player does its job and does it well. The ease of use its very good, just put a disc in and hit play. Alternatively there are other items that the player can play, you can use a usb drive to playback music, view pictures or simply play a disc. This player does connect to the internet via ethernet, I believe this is mainly to update and use BD-live. Overall I am very impressed with this player and would recommend it only if you just need a 4K player, if you want a "Smart" device this item is not for you.

Are there any of these boxes that actually work? Do any really function as advertised? This is truly a POS system (and that acronym is NOT point of sale!") it rarely works as described and regularly needs to be rebooted - as in several times daily - just to work at all. It is absolute junk, and Id love to find better, but evidently they are all crud.

Can’t say that I’ve ever had any DVD or Blu-ray player fail for me like this one has and for others. Paid over $100 for this bare bones no WIFI no apps 4k Ultra. It played movie format files from USB with no issues. The first REDBOX BLU-RAY attempt exhibited continued black out and was unwatchable. The behavior continued regardless of whatever disk you try to play in the player. 0 quality control, shame on LG For allowing UP875 on the market. Their $50 WiFi smart BR player has worked flawlessly for 4yrs. Fortunately, I was still in the Amazon return period and got a full refund.

I got this unit as my LG TV has streaming apps. I did not need streaming on the Blu Ray. I needed a basic Blu Ray. I wanted a Blu Ray capable of playing 4K since me TV does. It plays DVDs quite well. It upgrades DVD to higher version quite well. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase.

My previous Blu-Ray player was a Sony. Comparing this product with the Sony I would say that the LG surpasses the Sony in the User Interface and quality. Controlling it from my phone is a plus as well. Where the LG comes up short is when viewing Netflix. The LG must lack a buffer because when there is a drop in bandwidth it just stops. When this happened with the Sony I could pause it and let the stream buffer the usually play the rest of the video with pausing. I have not found a way to do this with the LG. When the bandwidth fluctuates I end up finding something to watch on Amazon. There is also no speed test or mechanism to tell you your bandwidth speed on the LG. The Sony has this and it turns out this is a pretty nice feature. If you have slow Internet and plan on watching a lot of Netflix then I would not recommend this model. It would be very helpful if the vendors specified the buffer size on the technical specification of the product.

We really love LG and this is a very nice little blu-ray player. We have another one very similar and it sort of stopped working. I called LG and no questions asked, they sent us the reimbursement for the one that stopped working, so we bought another one. You just cannot argue with that kind of customer service and we love the player.

Ok! It arrived as promised and was so easy to set up! So far, so good. I will use mostly to watch my DVDs and BR-discs for movies at home. It is very compact and lightweight, which made it easy to hook-up the power cord and HDMI cable. It took less than 10 minutes. I tested a DVD and am amazed at how much better it looks using this Blu-Ray player. Very pleased with the price, design, and intuitive hook-up! If I need the other features this player offers, it will good to know they are there to implement. Love LG products, so I am very happy with this item.

4K ROCKS! I really love the blu-rays that are upscaled to 4K. I thought Avatar was really good, now with this player - it is AMAZING! If you have a 4K tv, a 4K player is a must! This player is really nice and easy to use. This model was reasonably priced and I am more than happy with it! The 4K movies are almost to 3D quality clarity (not sure how else to describe it) with this player. I purchased a new high speed HDMI cable with it ($6), so not sure if regular HDMI cable matters or not.
