Very happy with this purchase so far, read reviews everywhere for probably 10 hours. Color not needed; dont want a printer that wont work without it, I only need black and white, and this services everything. So far, the faxing, copying, printing Ive tried are excellent, will later try scanning. Customer support outstanding; worth thousands. They even called me back the next morning out of concern about my fax with no prompting from myself. Now Im in business! I used the Amazon credit card deal towards this purchase.

This printer has been a huge time sink for a variety of reasons. I am a computer-savvy individual who knows how to add printer ports, set fixed IP addresses, and configure printer settings. Setting everything up right, this printer prints to Tray 1 (the Priority tray) no matter what, as long as there is some type of paper product in that tray. A call into HP tech support routes all tech support calls to their close to useless support website rather than a live customer service rep (hint -- just stay on the line after it tries to get rid of you and after awhile you will get an option for live support). The live support rep confirmed that this was a problem with the printer or the software. There is no option to set the paper source to Tray 2 (the Main tray) -- the only possible settings are Tray 1, Printer Auto-Select (which it does poorly), or Manual Feed. Hey HP, if your Auto-select software doesnt work, then how about including an option to print to Tray 2? Another irritant has been being all but forced to set up a WSD rather than a standard TCP/IP port. Although WSD ports are good for simple situations and establish the connection automatically, they are riddled with problems related to subsequent IP address conflicts and other glitches, and a TCP/IP port setup is much preferable. After fiddling with it for a long time, I was eventually able to establish a TCP/IP port with a fixed IP address, only to find out that my Desktop icon link to the HP Printer Assistant no longer works and will only work if I go back to the WSD port! Hey HP and Microsoft, how about letting the end user decide whether they want a WSD or TCP/IP port instead of trying to ram the WSD port down our throats? Yet another issue that some other users have complained about for years with no response from HP is that this model and some others has a bright green flashing LED light to indicate standby mode that is quite annoying, especially if this printer is in your bedroom. How about an option to turn this light off? A whole product line has been developed to address this problem (see dim-its; I wonder if HP is an investor). Also, during startup with the CD, even though I selected the "Customize" option I was not given the opportunity to not install seven pieces of bloatware that I have since uninstalled. Finally, buyers should understand that this printer has a separate image drum rather than having it built into the toner cartridge. This adds a $90 expense at some point down the line, and has also confused some buyers who thought that they were buying toner instead of the image drum because of the confusing way that it has been marketed on amazon. How does this thing print, scan, copy, and fax, you might ask. I dont know -- Ive been too busy with all of these other issues to find out!

Very pleased with this printer. Setup took about 45 seconds. Was able to quickly connect a Mac and PC for wireless printing, and printing from my iPhone is a snap.

I bought this HP printer because I have used them in the past at work and always liked the print quality, so I thought Id give this printer a try. I liked all the features it described, but when I got it and used it for a while, I wasnt too happy with it. For one, it defaults in duplex printing mode, so you have to turn that option off anytime you have more than one page to print and dont want it duplexed. Two: the supplies (toner, drum, etc.) are much more expensive than for other brand printers. Thirdly: The scanning options are not the best. I dont like the way it does scan to email, especially compared to my older Brother printer. If you want a high quality photo scan, stay away from this printer. The pictures are fuzzy and lack detail. I got better results using an old $30 Canon flat bed scanner. I was with HP tech support all day and they couldnt make it scan any better, even after doing a firmware update and reinstalling drivers. The first tech support was through chat and he just closed the chat without being able to help me. The second was through phone and she couldnt make it scan any better either. She basically told me I was better off scanning with an inkjet all-in-one printer because it had better scanning software. That defeats the purpose of having an all-in-one laser printer. I should have just stayed with my Brother all-in-one printer. The scans werent the best either, but they were much better than this HP M227fdw printer. I already threw the box away, so Im stuck with it. Live and learn.

Seems to work very well. Pretty easy setup. I like the arrangement for feeding and output better than in previous model. Toner cartridges are where they make the money. You can save money by never using this. . .but that doesnt work does it. IMHO, far superior to the Ink Jet models that are just a license to print money for the sellers. I use non-HP cartridges in mine and, other than some of the annoyances, that has worked out OK. Not something non-trivial for the non-technical though.

This product has offered nothing but disappointment from the date of its arrival. I made the mistake of purchasing this as a refurbished item, for use with my business. Immediately out of the box, the printer would not recognize the printer cartridge. After hours of troubleshooting, contacting customer service, rebooting, and trial and error, I was finally able to get HP customer service. They sent a replacement cartridge, which printed streaky prints constantly, with dark spots, lines, dirty black deposits on every print. This printer is to be used for printing photo decals for glass. Decal sheet, after decal sheet, which are quite expensive, was ruined because of poor print quality due to toner deposits, streaks, lines, blurs. I have cleaned, run test prints, followed online help tutorials, and driven myself to exhaustion trying to achieve quality work from this disappointingly flawed unit. It is less than one year from my purchase date and all I feel is regret for buying refurbished in an effort to save money. Now, the unit is in permanent Offline Mode, in spite of HP customer service assistance, online troubleshooting, HP Chat assistance, rebooting and reloading and updating software, resetting modem, you name it. I Hate this unit! I should have known that if the previous owner returned it, that I should not have purchased it. I am stuck with a piece of absolute junk. I am so disappointed and angry that I have spent so much valuable time trying to get something that is apparently hopelessly defective from the 1st day of ownership to actually do what it is supposed to do. As a small business owner, the need for reliable equipment is essential, and having to spend precious time and frustration with malfunctioning equipment is a killer to my business and my pockets. Getting this unit was a splurge for me at the time of purchase, but the potential to assist my business was great, and the reviews of the item were wonderful, so I bought it. The lost time, down time and ruined/wasted supplies have been terrible. Sigh...This has been a huge let down. HUGE!

I am updating my review. The printer barely can print cardstock even after setting the paper type on both the PC and the printer now. It struggles with cardstock. It cannot even print a single piece of paper clearly, there are blank spots on the paper. I would steer clear. Sounds like a great printer but stops preforming after a few months. Maybe I got a dud, but wish I could return it.

My friends told me to get a laser printer, they said get the HP M227 dw. When I searched Amazon gave me this one M227 dfw. On the description it clearly reads "replaces the HP M227 dw" Okay, I expect then that this printer will do everything the M227dw did and then some. Noooooo, after numerous tries to print in color I find out from HP that it is monochromatic! Mono! So I had to repackage the monster and send it back. Amazon as usual gave great customer service and gave back every penny so I didnt have to fight anyone. They really need to put (for people like me) a great big sign that tells that this printer is MONOCHROMATIC.

this printer is FAST. Even printing double sided, prints are out faster than any laser printer Ive used at work. Scanner function works very well, and allows for easy rotating and re-sizing for copies. Once on the network, every device in the house immediately recognized it and I have had no problems printing to it from my tablet, phone, laptop, etc.

I am very happy with this all-in-one printer. I am not overly tech-savvy and was quite concerned with setting it up, especially since I use Windows 10 (I had read the reviews about difficulties with this printer and Windows 10). I followed the instructions and had it up and running in about 30 minutes. It works great. I am very pleased with this purchase.
