If youre a Mac owner, dont buy this machine! Since Oct 2016, HP printer software is no longer available through Apple Software Update. Instead, you have to use the convoluted HP Easy Start program thats supposed to download and install the right driver for your printer. Even after 6 tries, it always ends up telling me it "Cannot obtain software information," because it "Cannot connect to server". (My Internet connection through Firefox works just fine for everything else.) The printer now works only because of a fluke in the Mac OS 10.11. Also, the HP Utility App. wont work with this printer and cant be updated to do so. This is the last HP Printer I will ever buy for my Macs, unless HP dramatically changes its attitude on providing its printer software.

The P1102w was nifty. You set it up once and it keeps working. This M102w on the other hand is a nightmare to set up. It takes several tries. Then it doesnt connect anymore. The light says it is connected to the network, but the computer says the printer isnt connected and printing fails. Trying to go through the setup again goes nowhere. There are dialogs without cancel buttons. There are dialogs that lead you in circles. You tell it you want to connect via USB and it makes a duplicate USB entry in the printers list. Then you get on a dialog that looks interesting, but no wireless networks show up. Not worth the trouble. I wish I could get another P1102w. Im using Windows 10.

This is the preference replacement for the 1102W? WOW.. we go from a semi-decent 1102W that at least looks, feels and operates to a spec that is worth what we paid for it to this piece of cheap, mechanically clunky piece of crap. I only gave it 2 stars since it came in a nice color other than black and had good packaging.. ** sigh ** Even the OEM toner cartridge was only as round as maybe a silver dollar.

The paper feed reminds me of a cheap inkjet. The blank paper sticks out of the front instead of being in a drawer. So although it looks like it has a small footprint when closed, it is much larger if you leave paper in it. The paper insertion doesnt feel smooth, and initial power up takes 20 seconds or more while the paper loads. Print time is somewhat slow but acceptable. The panel indicators are cryptic. There is no LCD display to tell you whats going on in case of an error. Main reason I got it is that it is provides wireless printing at a lower cost. Print quality is good. I wouldnt use it for any high volume, just as a low-use home printer. My opinion is to spend the additional $60+ for one of the M402 models. They print faster, have a real paper drawer (expansion drawers are available), an LCD status screen, and the paper handling is smooth. Much better for higher volume or business use.
