Update: Ive been using this for a few weeks and I really like this printer. I scanned in some photos (its a rolling scanner--feeds in by rolling, not sitting on a scanning bed) and using the phone as a controller is something I found I like a lot. I can immediately send the scanned photo (or doc) choosing PFD or JPG format to any cloud drive--Google, Dropbox, etc. This is very convenient. The printer is no bigger than a long shoe box and wireless is quite convenient. Since I print infrequently in color, but want color now and then and scanning, this is a great addition to my laser monochrome workhorse printing. This is billed as the "worlds smallest deskjet" and it is compact. Its the size of a makeup traincase or an old-fashioned briefcase. When both of the paper trays are folded up, the foot print is about 16" long by 7" deep by 6" high. So it fits on small desks. As it happens, I do not have a lot of desk real estate at the moment, and the laser printer is on its own stand (an old end table) with no room or shelf for anything else. So this sits on the top of the desk next to the monitor with plenty of room. And its wireless, which is a feature Ive come to admire in printers--you can print off your Kindle or your cell phone and if you use Dropbox, this is more useful than it sounds; a colleague can send you a document by phone and you can print it out with little fuss. It uses the usual two cartridge system--one color and one black and white. If you are willing to pay a monthly fee and if you print a lot, the printer will feed back ink levels online and you will receive ink in the mail. But you have a choice not to opt in, if you are an infrequent user. Im so infrequent in color printing that sometimes my color cartridges begin to fade and degrade. Since the base subscription is about $3 a month (for casual use) thats not bad--about half the price of buying ink at random times. The printer scans as well as prints--by rolling in whatever it is you want to scan. There is no display, since this is wireless, you connect your smartphone and use the phone as the controller for the printer. This was rather clever--if you were intending to do wireless printing, then why duplicate an expensive LCD display? There is a minimal display--all else is handled by phone or tablet. If you need to scan a book page, the phone comes in again--an app will let you snap a photo and print that. The smartphone also sets your printer up on the network. You can also use a tablet to set up, but frankly, this printer is geared for phone users. I was new to smartphones last year (didnt see the utility of them--but now I have one and like it.) So if you use a smartphone, youll find this easy to install. To install: Enter 123.hp.com/dj3700 in the web browser on your smartphone or PC, or scan the QR code. Then download and run the printer setup software (pc) or mobile app. Connect your printer to your network (you will need the key code for your network security.) There is a CD you can use, if you have no internet capability or network. However, this printer is designed with mobile devices and internet-network in mind, so setup finishes, ideally, on the internet. I wouldnt recommend this printer if you dont use a smartphone or tablet and have a home wireless network, though that seems to be fairly standard these days. You can set up this printer to work with multiple devices: The 123.hp.com/dj3700 page lets you install the HP printer software or the HP All-in-One Remote app on any of the computers or mobile devices that you want to use with your printer but the printer and all of the devices need to be connected to the same network. The speed is 8 ppm for black and white and 5 1/2 ppm for color. The paper capacity is 60 sheets. It comes in three colors: I got the electric blue but you can choose aqua green or a grey. No hot pink. I think this is a mistake, as I noticed a friends childs computer is hot pink, and even her chair is pink. Pink is popular--maybe theyll come out with that if this printer proves to be a big seller. Summary: if you are a smartphone user, this printer is designed to add print capability. Since most photo sharing these days is by phone, printing is not done as frequently, but there are still times when you want to print out a picture or a document. If you print very infrequently, your ink may dry out. (This is why I use a laser printer. I rarely print color and I dont print a lot--and toner cartridges stay stable a lot longer than inkjet cartridges.) Good for kids.

11/1/2017: This will be an ongoing review to try both the printer, the ink supply, and the HP service. The delivery was as usual in a prompt manner but that is an Amazon kind of service. The printer worked with USB cable immediately but USB is kind of proven technology. Wireless did not work at the beginning. I was looking for some documentation online at Hp.com and a CS asked me if I needed help with no mention that there is a charge for it. Then she asked me to give her my number. Someone called and after a few clicks here and there thru TeamViewer, he asked me if I wanted it fixed and there was going to be a charge. I imagine he figured out what was wrong and had the fix ready but wanted to charge me like $49. I turned it down and figured out how to connect it thru wireless. It worked a couple of times but now it is not working. 11/8/2017: This is a hit or miss with wireless. Some times it works and some others it does not. I am decent with computer knowledge and I cannot imagine how frustrating it would be for a regular user. The "HP Software" claims the full software is not fully installed on the PC although I installed it and rebooted 5 times already. The USB works like a charm but that is not how I want it. I will be looking into the return policy.

Bought this for printing orders for my Etsy business, and half the time this only prints my address label and I have to restart it to get the packing slip printed! I constantly have to restart it to get it connected to my computer, or use a USB cable to connect it. I also keep getting printer cartridge alignment issues, even though I use HP cartridges. Constantly taking them in and out and I still get alignment error messages. I also cant keep it turned on because it makes so much noise even when its not being used. Im not sure what its doing, but it makes noises like the paper feeder is constantly adjusting, whether it has paper in the machine or not.

Do noy buy this printer. Save yourself the headache and get something else. This arrived last week and we tried to set it up on 2 different computers with windows 10, just using the usb connection. It appeared as if it was connected to both of them, but would not print a single document. It would print test pages fine, so there was no issue with the ink or mechanics of the printer. It just would not listen to any commands from either computer. Documents or photos sent to be printed would just wait in the queue forever with no response. Using the hp scan doctor, it determined that the drivers and software needed uninstalled and reinstalled. We even tried downloading drivers from the hp website, thinking that maybe the driver cd was damaged somehow. We tried this multiple times on both computers, just trying to get it to work. Searching online for a solution, we discovered multiple users since this printer came out with the same problem. It sounds like a known issue and one they just wont fix. UPS is coming to pick up this heap of plastic tomorrow. Also as a side note, when it arrived it had a postal tag on it with a name and address of someone in Canada. I originally thought maybe it just caught a second tag somehow, however I am now suspicious that someone else might have already returned this for it not working, and they just repackaged it and shipped it to us.

This is one of the most unfortunate things I have every spent my money on. I purchased this printer for school and I did not intend on needing to use it all that often so it sounded like my best bet. Well first, I almost gave up on it even before it was used. It was incredibly difficult to set up. I have a Chromebook which I know isnt a traditional computer but everything I read said that it was compatible and worked great (including many reviews in here). I ended up calling HP support and spend a total of about 2 hours on the phone setting it up. Okay so it printed, yay! I have never been able to set it up to scan. HP was not able to help me with that, they walked me through steps but nothing worked. Ok, whatever ill just use it as a printer....think again. It worked nicely for about 2 weeks when it stopped printing anything past the first page and gave an error message I would have to go to the printer and press a button and it would finish. Ok, whatever. Then, it started cutting off the bottom 2 inches of the page printed on everything. Then, it started printing every few lines and would fade out (still full of ink) THEN....THEEENNNN it stopped printing at all. It pulls the page through and it sounds like its printing but the page is blank (yes there is still full ink). I cant return it and have not yet contacted HP (because the final straw was about 20 minutes ago) so I cant say that HP wont offer a solution but I certainly dont want a replacement.

This is probably the 4th or 5th HP printer I’ve had over the years and I hate it. This thing is absolutely awful to use. I managed to set it up to WiFi once (after hours of following the instructions) and then when I moved and took it with me it wouldn’t connect to any WiFi even with the help of a tech support person coming to take a look at it. This wouldn’t be an issue for me if the USB cable worked and I could just plug my computer in and print, but it won’t do that either. Overall this thing has been a tremendous pain and I wouldn’t wish this frustration on my worst enemy. Do not buy this printer.

Horrible product! Spent over 2.5hrs going through trouble shooting steps with HP support to find out in the end the printer was defective out the box! If you get an "E3" error message on the display when you plug it in that indicates its a hardware issue and WILL NOT WORK! They are aware of this defect and continue to sell this product to the public. So if you want to test your luck and waste 2+ hours of your life you will never get back and take the gamble, go right ahead. This was suppose to be an upgrade from my older CANON printer that wasnt equipped for wireless printing. Ive had it over 5 years, works perfectly fine except no wireless printing. Well guess what?! I will be returning this piece of junk and sticking with my old CANON printer that works perfectly fine!!

Works well and without an internet connection. I have an iPad and no wifi but by using the technology wifi direct I can send items from my iPad to the printer and it works....magic!!! It is slow but if you only need to print a small amount it works. You do need to download an app (free) to use it but that is no big deal. It also has a very small footprint....for my needs in a cabin in the woods I couldnt be more pleased.

If youre looking for a small, affordable, quality printer, then this is the one for you. I bought mine to take with me to college, and I certainly would recommend it to any student. You get a lot for the price, and the printing quality is pretty good. I dont know that I would depend on it for printing out high quality color photos, but for papers and documents, I have found that it is perfect. It was easy to set up, and is small enough that it can sit on a small desk with a larger laptop without a problem. Compared to some of the other HP ink cartridges, the cartridges that this printer uses are considerably cheaper. This is a great printer for college students, families, and for anyone who wants a small, budget friendly computer that prints well.

I bought this in July 2016. It just stopped printing today. Im not good at following complicated printed tech support directions so Im going to have to junk this one. Ive always bought Dell computers and printers. I regret now that I didnt go for the Dell in this case. The printer is extremely flimsy and they sell you on the ink by mail deal - do not go for this. I never could get it to connect to my wireless in the house.
