Epson XP-7100 Expression Premium Wireless Color Photo Printer, Black

The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was how cheaply this was made. Just flimsy plastic. But I went ahead and set it up. It was only $100, what can you expect? I tried for an hour to connect it wirelessly to my laptop, but with no success. I called the Customer Service number and spent 45 minutes following "Kevins" instructions. Finally, he said he would send me a link via e-mail, which, I learned, is code for "I dont know what else to do, so I will send you this link and get you off the phone". I clicked the link and it took me right back to the Epson website, the same Download button I started with. I called Epson once again, went through all the steps again, but with no success. I am sending it back and looking for a better printer, which is code for "one that really work"!!

The un-packaging and initial set up on Windows 7 Home Premium was much easier than I had thought it would be . The WiFi & USB connections were made almost with out effort . The connection with my cell phone & Android Tablet were event free. The Hammermill Print App & the Epson Print App both recognized the printer . The Driver Installation showed SD Over USB driver Fail , but I think its because I did not have an SD card in the slot and most likely never will . It will probably become active when I insert an SD card for the first time , or it might be a Windows 7 issue , but it is a feature I would never use any way . Other than this , it performs really well . The initial adjusting of the print heads is a bit tedious , but necessary , and it really doesnt take much time , just a few pages of paper . The CD /DVD printer software that came with this printer is Excellent ! Some one finally wrote a DVD / CD printer program that is easy to use , intuitive and produces great results on Ink Jet Printable CD/DVDs . I still use my third party software for printing the Case Inserts . The print quality is superb and the colors are spot on . The ink can be a bit pricey ( Epson 410XL ) , but since I will use it 90% of the time to print CD/DVDs & Case Inserts , and not as a default printer , I can live with it . I did find some 410XL third party ink on Amazon.com that actually had a 5 star rating for this printer and they were very reasonably priced for a set of all 5 cartridges . I hope these 3rd party cartridges work as well as they are rated . We shall see . I dont use Windows 10, but others reviewing this printer comment on its use with Windows 10 .

The first install of this printer on a Windows 10 PC did not go well. I started by uninstalling the previous Epson Workforce this XP-7100 was replacing. Then I downloaded the latest install package from the Epson support site. Then, I spent the next two hours trying to get it to install correctly. In uninstalled, reinstalled, deleted drivers, rebooted, checked network connections etc. Getting the printer onto the network was easy, but both the install package from the internet and the included CD would not successfully install drivers. I finally had to download separate printer and scanner drivers to get things to work. I am keeping the review at 5 stars because everything installed flawlessly on the second Win 10 PC I tried and, after installed, everything works very well. Setup, other than the mentioned install issue, took about 20 minutes which included charging the ink and aligning and testing the print heads. The resulting printing was excellent - both text and photos. Printing speed was very fast for text and average for photos. Scanning documents was fast and easy with the ADF. The results were high quality PDF files. The XP-7100 really excelled at scanning photos. I tested it by scanning 3 photos at the same time. The scanner was smart enough to scan the grouped photos as 3 seperate and perfectly cropped images. The scanned images were clearer than the original 30 year old photos. The color rendering was excellent and a bit richer then the original photos. It took the XP-7100 more than a minute to scan the three photos at 600 dpi but the result was outstanding. The things I like most about the printer: 1. All printer control is via a clearly illuminated touch screen. So much easier to see and navigate than the tons of mechanical buttons on my old Epson Workforce. 2. The automatically extending and retracting control panel and output tray are great for keeping the printer in a desk enclosure like mine - a perfect fit. 3. The Epson iPrint app is great. I can easily print from my Samsung tablet and phone. I can scan to my tablet and phone, and then email the scan using the app. All without turing on a PC. And the whole process works seamlesslly. 4. So far the ADF has worked well. Like other Epsons, the ADF can be closed to give the XP-7100 a smooth top that is easy to clean. Despite my initial setup issues, I really like this all-in-one. I like the ability to easily print and scan with my phone and tablet without even having a PC on. Its small enough to fit in my office desk printer cabinet (when the printer is shut down). It scans photos very well and it is reasonably fast doing its job.

After I went thru the process of setting up the printer - pulling off all the tape on it, adding ink etc., I inserted the CD into the Computer. I checked the Certificate and it expired on 10/25/18. No wonder they took $100 off of the price. This printer is not a bargain even if it was free. All I know is that I have a printer full of ink and worth nothing as I dont trust it. Im going to contact amazon and see if i can still get my money back.

Ive had good luck with Epson printers over many years now (we have several in the house and two in separate offices), and while I know some consider their ink pricey Ive never noticed it being a major issue in comparison to other printers. This one, so far, continues Epsons quality, and if things change over usage time, Ill update. Set-Up: Set up has always been a strength of Epson printers. From first ripping off of the tape on the shipping box to printing the first test pages was under 15 minutes. That includes unboxing, ensuring all the little blue tap has been removed from the printer itself, loading in the ink cartridges, letting the printer initialize them, and having it connect to our wi-fi network. About the only way it could have been easier if it had unboxed itself and walked up the stairs using its own mechanical legs. It printed just fine one first tries via my MacBook Pro, my iPad, an iMac, and two iPhones (both on the network and direct). No problems at all. Were an Apple family obviously, so I cant speak to its ease of use with Windows. I did print of a USB though, again with no issues at all. And it scans to our laptop and desktop just fine (I havent tested it on the iPad though I assume it wont be an issue there either) The display is large, bright and clear and as always, easy to progress through to get to where you need to The footprint is nicely small. We have it in a little cubby behind sliding doors under our bookshelf where it just has enough room to open the top high enough to install the ink. For so many features, and with an auto-feeder, the small size is greatly appreciated. The output tray automatically retracts and comes out, which makes it easier to keep in small spaces. You can do some light editing just on the printer itself. Obviously using your device is going to be easier and more full-featured, and I doubt Ill get much use out of that, but I do think the rotate and resize options are pretty good basic ones to have available to someone without a computer. Text quality is good, certainly on par with all the others. Ill update with photos later as thats a more involved process (not the printing but just getting good images to test with and good paper). It prints noticeably faster than my older Epsons, especially double-sided. If youre planning on doing major printing/copying, you probably want to go up to the WorkForce (we have one that works great) just for durability and wear/tear. But otherwise this is a nice small home or small office usage printer that is unobtrusive, easy to set up, fast, and highly convenient thanks to its many ways of connecting to various devices, its features such as auto-feed and double-sided printing, and its ability to do some work even without a computer connected to it. Ill update photos and durability, but based on years of experience with more than a half-dozen Epsons, I imagine this is another winner

Day 1 - Setup printer for wireless printing. Printed test page. All good. Day 2 - Printer no longer shown as available; couldnt print. Day 2 - Uninstalled ALL of the multiple Epson programs (couldnt uninstall all programs with one uninstall program, had to uninstall all of them separately---plus each of the uninstall programs worked differently. One took 1 1/2 minutes to uninstall a 4MG program! Set printer back to factory default and then reinstalled all programs; again for wireless printing. Printed test page. All good. Day 3 - Printer again no longer shown as available; couldnt print. Day 3 - Uninstalled all software and set back to factory default. Reinstalled trying wired (Ethernet) printing. Followed all of the directions in user guide, which by the way is so poorly written and hyperlinked (not) that it seems like the engineer wrote it not a qualified tech writer. Day 3 1/2 - Never got it to print, either by wireless or via Ethernet. Sent it back to Amazon. Went to Best Buy and bough a Canon---had it up and running in less than 1/2 hour!

I bought this all-in-one primarily for the scanner function. I am a teacher, and I wanted the ability to scan hard copies of things I come across, and print out copies later. I gave it 4 stars because the setup was an endless loop, but Epson customer service guided me through the process. It turned out that some things werent clearly explained in the users manual. That being said, I am very happy with the quality of the scanning and printing. It has a feed for scanning and/or printing multiple pages, and prints on both sides of the page. I do have an older laser printer for bulk jobs, because Im sure the cost per page is higher on this unit. Still, the price was comparable to other all-in-one units with fewer features (HP), and it looks better made. My only small complaint is that it should have had a matte casing. The gloss finish is covered with my fingerprints.

I have been an Epson girl since my first printer. I later owned a business & I have an Epson 9600 I still use. (Wide format to 44 inches wide.) Many small printers later, my 720 series was giving me issues. (purple prints, even though I cleaned all the pads & docking station etc.) Decided it was time for a new one!! Although Id have liked the one with the 2yr ink, Im retired so I "stepped down" to this, so to say! WOW......I am so pleased! Having a photo lab, Im VERY color aware. First photo out, on cheap plain 8 1/2 x 11 paper....was beautifull, & so color correct! (Wi-fi print!) Next I sat in another room & printed a glossy 4x6...From my PHONE!! As I found out my Alexas (which we dont use enough,) helped me set things up!! wow again...& just to give you a bit of background on me...besides having a full service photo lab at one time, I also worked conventions for Fuji for a few years! (Which I loved! And miss!) The more expensive Epson printers must even surpass this...............but, this printed, at its low cost is GREAT!!

For us, the printer replaced an Epson 710 Artisan. I stayed with Epson because I have had several of their printers and they worked well. This printer has some nice features, like a top feed copier which makes copying and scanning faster because I dont have to pickup the top of the printer to load and unload. Theres a door on top that opens to reveal a tray that accepts paper automatically and deposits it on the side when done. I use AudioLabel software to print a DVD/CD, and this printer works well with it. The front panel on the printer tilts up when its powered on which makes it easier to read, however, I wonder how long it will last. Since the front panel is where you have to operate the printer buy touchpad, Im pretty careful about using a light touch. When the printer starts printing, the output tray automatically extends, so keeping the area in front of the printer clear is important. Speaking of the output tray, if it is extended when you power off the printer, you are asked if you want to retract it and you have to respond buy touching the screen Yes or No. I would think Epson engineers would have just included a sensor to see if the tray was empty, and automatically retract it rather than have their customer hit another button to power off the printer. A small ding on Epson maybe but it does bother me every time. I did have to do a firmware upgrade recently and it went off without a hitch. The printer told me there was one available and I told it to upload it. It took about 2 minutes to complete. The print quality is very good and it prints quickly. Theres a quiet mode which makes less noise while printing, but it prints slower. Sometimes, especially after being on for awhile, the printer will not start printing right away. It sits there making small clicking noises but it does eventually start printing. I have only used the wireless connection with my PC (running Windows 10), so it may be related with that, I dont know. Given my needs, I would still purchase this printer again. It has many more positives than negatives.

I bought this Epson xp 7100 to replace an HP Envy 7155, which inexplicably began giving bad prints. I am very happy with this Epson. I have had it about 4 months and use it mostly for printing photos. What I like is that every print I have made has been perfect on the first try. What I see on my computer screen is exactly what prints, and it has not made a mistake yet. I prefer this type of printer with multiple cartridges, rather than one color cartridge that runs out all at once. The only thing to be careful of is that the paper tray that slides out can leave tiny scratches on your desk, so elevate the printer or protect the desk. Otherwise, highly recommended.
