My first Epson SC P-600 did not work at all. Amazon put a charge on my card for a second one, shipped me a new one, and ultimately removed the charge for the second one. My second Epson SC P-600 worked beautifully for the first 10 months. I agree with previous reviewers that having the matt and photo black share the same line and printhead is inefficient, time-consuming, and unnecessarily expensive. That said, I was very happy with the results until my printer -apparently like so many others, began having trouble with the black line clogging. Finally, just two weeks before its warranty is up the line is completely clogged. After performing diagnostics myself and spending several hours on the phone with Epson Customer Service, I can now say that my problem is with the Epson company and Amazon.com. Although the printer is still under warranty, Epson is now REFUSING to honor their stated warranty because it was not sold through one of their "authorized" resellers. The customer service department says the serial number for my printer is "invalid" because their computer does not recognize this number and "there is nothing they can do about it." I pointed out that there is no way for me, the customer, to know if a purportedly new machine has arrived to my location, in its box from the factory, with a warranty, is a machine whose distribution route is not approved by Epson. I am choosing NOT to go the route of some customers here and ship this printer with its full set of expensive ink cartridges back to Amazon, only to have this process repeated again. I was also told that Epson cannot control who sells their product. Epson can and must control who sells their product and must stand behind their warranty for their products. They DO NOT stand behind products and apparently allow sub-standard bad batches" to be distributed by third party sellers and then just tell the customers there is nothing that they can do."

We are just over the year mark and are being told by Epson that the chip that isnt recognizing the toner isnt covered. We purchase so much from EPSON and this is how we are treated. Its a shame. Its also very sad this printer (which isnt cheap) has only lasted us a total of 13 months. Horrible customer service and tech support.

UPDATE: 5-28-2018 I reached out to live support at Epson and expressed my disappointment and that I believed I should have an exchange. I have been using Epson since I began digital photography in the 1990s, I have spare ink cartridges, many boxes of Epson papers, etc. In the end, Epson sent me an exchange (refurbished) printer overnight delivery. The refurbished printer looks and acts like new. I am happy now with Epson...but have learned to pay attention to expensive purchases from Amazon. (The original printer was supplied by Abes of Main and as it turned out...a European version not fully supported in the US.) I am resetting the Stars to 4 stars...normally I give Epson printers 5 Stars. Very disappointed. First, warranty issue because I purchased via Amazon (shows as an international purchase vs. US store location). I dont understand this, but there it is. I purchased in June 2017, printed beautiful prints up to 13X19. Then as I used up the OEM provided ink, spent hundreds of dollars on full ink cartridges and continued printing. Then I went into a lull and did not print much or at all the past 2-3 months. Print quality deteriorated on my last production run and I ran all the required print head cleaning routines, etc. Epson Support referred me to a service center because 2/9 print heads were clogged and unusable. Service center informed me of the international purchase (via Amazon), no warranty and expect $200+/head plus service to repair if they cannot soak and clean the print heads. Now I have a very expensive paper weight. I have used Epson ever since I started digital photography in the 1990s and have had great luck. My last printer was the R1800. I have hundreds invested in paper and spare ink. I am considering selling all on Craigs List and looking for a more reliable brand.

Update 3/19/2016: Down to 2 star. Last night the replacement P600 stopped printing Black color again. I called Epson this morning and they are sending another "Refurbished" unit. Another $279.00 waisted. I have changed my rating from 3 to 2 now. I am leaving 1 more star for the next one. Ask around before you order the P600. The first one could have been just bad luck. But 2 in a row with the same exact problem is no coincidence, there is something wrong. Original Review: Feb, 2016 I was planing to write a review after using it for a while but unfortunately now I have to report that when it worked it was a great printer. After only 3 months it was bricked. Called Epson, They said They will replace it with a refurbished one. Just a warning to potential buyers. I dont think this is an isolated lemon. The fact that they readily offer to replace it without the usual "lets try this lets try that" tells me that there is a bad batch or all of them are bad. And it is just a matter of time for them to go. Otherwise this is a great printer. Easy to setup and calibrate. The print quality is really great and plays very nice with Lightroom. I gave it 3 star because it is good printer and they offered to replace it. But with a refurbished one and I lose all my inks that I just replaced. I am not happy. Hope this help some of you save some money (9x$31= $279.00) worth of inks purchased just recently on Amazon. -Mike

Prints excellent photos while it lasts...and thats about all the good that I can say about it. I had a similar problem as many other reviewers out there with the printer failing shortly after the warranty period was up. I have only gone through some of the original ink and now I am stuck with a $700 peice of junk that gives me a paper jam error when there is no paper jam every time I try to print. I would have come out way ahead financially if I had just had a print shop print my photos...just something for all you hobbyist photographers out there to consider. Seems that they put all their r&d into features and not into the longevity of the machine, which should be just as important for a $700 printer. Because they will not honor the warranty at this point they will be making no more money on ink from me, and I will probably switch to another brand next time because this is my second failed wide format epson printer (although the first one lasted a little while longer).

The one I received shipped and sold by amazon has an active 14 month warranty checked via epson warranty website upon receipt. We printed 150 4x6 photos before it ran out of light magenta. All other colors were over half. Fantastic printer with fantastic prints, I would recommend looking into aftermarket inks though at the $280 price tag for a set. If I had purchased Another light magenta I’m sure we would have printed 300 4x6 photos before it ran completely out. At that price thats $1 a print plus paper on one level below the best quality. Not really all that great. I have used cobrainks for several years with epson printers and the quality of the ink is identical. Same color profile and quality- don’t use anything but epson if you try and cheap out with anything else, you’ll definitely regret it.

I liked the ability to print in large format- quality is excellent when you get all of the settings right. what is wrong is that the printer is really not cleanable by any of the information you find on Epsons site. 1.5 years in, it is leaving blotches all over the print in random places, refusing to take card stock, just basically being a pain in the ass. head cleaning does nothing to help. Endlessly, the paper is either not accepted by 10 seconds of paper jostling and no printing or by just shooting the paper through the path with no printing. if the head needs manual wiping to print cleanly, it should be set up to do that but the head is not exposed for cleaning. if wipers need to be replaced there should be instructions to do that. if the stupid printer (after 6 months of printing cardstock) suddenly decides it cant do card stock even after 5 sheets of sticky roller cleaner being run through, then it is just defective. Talked to 2 Epson reps and they said they just dont know what to say. I say: dont buy Epson.

Its weird, I almost feel like Im lying by only rating the printer 4 stars. The prints are gorgeous once you get the settings dialed in. Used with a high quality photo paper (personally, I love the Ilford GALERIE Prestige line of papers) youll get prints that will absolutely blow away anything from CVS and the like. Purely from an image quality standpoint, fully 5 stars. I like the touchscreen menu system, which makes it easy to change the settings. There are also some Epson phone apps that allow you to print photos directly from your phone over the wifi connection (not something Id do often, but on rare occasion it makes a convenient way to get prints for visiting relatives, etc). My primary issue with the printer so far is the way it shares a line between the photo black ink and the matte black ink. If you were previously printing a glossy print and you want to switch to a matte paper for something, the printer first has to clear the line of any photo black thats in there, which wastes several dollars worth of ink. Then the same thing has to happen again when you switch back. Its inefficient and costly, and I may not be an engineer, but I cant think of a single reason why this is necessary (especially considering the competing Canon photo printers manage to have separate lines). So the upshot is that I find myself subconsciously avoiding doing any work with the matte ink because I dont want to waste money. I looked it up, and switching from matte to photo black uses 3 ml of ink (more than 11% of the cartridge capacity!) while going in the other direction uses 1 ml. Theres a "Save Ink" option in the menu system that reduces it to 1 ml in each direction, but Im not sure what the drawback would be. I assume it has something to do with potential mixing/contamination of the two inks. Im willing to take that chance, I think. The cost of ink is going to be an important consideration. Youve probably heard it a hundred times before: manufacturers supposedly take a huge loss on printers because they know that youll get locked in to their ink cartridges, and that will more than make up for the printer that they practically gave away. This printer may be more expensive than many, but the idea is still the same. Consider that currently, the replacement ink set will run you $279. I tried to find some statistics on usage levels, and if you search for "red river P600 cost per print", the first result will be a link to a useful breakdown of approximate cost. They did 200 (8x10) prints at the lower quality level (1440x720) and found that youre averaging one cartridge change about every 30 prints. This means that the total cost per 8x10 is around $1. Of course, that price goes up when you print at either of the higher resolutions, but unfortunately the test did not include any of this information. Im currently looking into refillable cartridges, I figure its worth a shot. If it doesnt work out, I can always switch back, but the potential cost savings is significant.

Not sure Ive had it long enough to write a fully-qualified review. For starters, am I to assume that the ink cartridges that come WITH the printer are smaller capacity ink cartridges than replacement ones will be? Cuz if not, I just blew through those in lightening fast speed and barely printed much. ::gulp:: Its got me a-feared! Im an artist and began printing prints of art pieces Ive printed for years to fill orders. Some came out exactly as theyve always looked, others were way off. Strange to me that some would be perfectly calibrated in color, others not. And of course I have to blow through yet more ink getting them right again. I expect an adjustment period with any new printer, especially when it comes to printing colored art.......but there seems to be no rhyme or reason to (like lighter on blues, darker on yellows) skews. I just have to try each print to find out where it needs tweaking. Perhaps Ill have more to add once I work through this "adjustment period".
