Oh Boy....well, yes ink jet printers will have issues sooner or later with the print heads clogging, but, you can service them yourself and clean them out. The truth is ALL inkjet printers in dry areas especially like Idaho will clog. Go onto youtube for instructions on how to clean them. it is not that hard. Other wise I really like this printer. Folks have complained about it sucking up ink. Well, if you are doing full coverage art prints, yes it uses a lot of ink, because you are covering the whole page! not like text. So understand that yes, you will be using lots of ink. So...great product, just be prepared for the realities of an art print, and the fact that you will have to perform maintenance on your printer.

Epson claims that this is "versatile 13" wide-format photo printer for creative individuals" and will do "fine art, photographic and roll paper printing." Except you only get to be creative in the way Epson says you can be creative. Paper sizes are pre-ordained and you cannot add or change a paper size. Therefore, those of us who print on Italian art paper like Fabriano cannot print directly from the programs we create images in. No, we have to EXPORT TO PDF and print from Preview or other image program. Thus, it takes twice as long to send something to the printer. Epson apparently thinks creative people have a lot of time to lavish on making up for their stingy programming choices. You also cant print from whatever print feeder will work best for your material unless Epson says you can. You cant even experiment. No, if you select a certain paper type you MUST print it via whatever paper path is pre-selected for you by Epson, everything else is greyed out. So it the Epson-mandated paper path doesnt work well for your material...well, youre just SOL. Ive had this printer one day and hate it already. Customer support is in the Philippines so even the phone data transmission is lousy. Ill rewrite this review if they do a software/firmware update to fix these problems. Until then--avoid this printer if youre at all creative. Epson doesnt understand what the word "creative" means.

Ive always made all my own greeting cards and other custom artwork but when my old printer (dont remember what kind but it was an old HP) died a few years ago I have had nothing but problems! Ive tried at least 3 different HP printers over the past few years and doing my cards became an incredible chore especially the envelopes. I was going to give up this year and decided to do some research - the Epson P400 came up as a top match for what I was looking for. I waited until I made my Christmas cards and envelopes to review. Ive never had it so good! All my cards and envelopes are finished and in record breaking time and the quality and clarity are incredible! No streaking, spotting, smearing jamming - every single item printed absolutely perfectly!

Was a pain to set up on WiFi, it took me a few stabs at it, but once going, the prints are a dream come true. Its a shame I had to go to this price point to restore my faith in Epson photo printers. I had to try two printers before leaving the MFPs in the dust and coming up to this one. That being said, I have to say this is the best photo printer Ive ever seen in my home or any home anywhere. I would never go back to any other MFP after experiencing the photo prints from this semi-pro introductory printer! Here are my observations: The settings from the printer driver dialogue are pretty easy to use, there is a print manager if you want to use it to tweak the settings, but I have to tell you that on all the Epson photo papers I tested, the regular high quality settings along with the PhotoEnhance option (slow, not fast) was good enough to render spectacular results! I did try some of the portraits in fast mode and I couldnt tell much discernible loss in quality. I also tried some older HP and Kodak papers I had, but this printer balked a bit and unhappily caused a few minor blotches on a couple of sample prints and I wasnt happy with some of the yellow on my Kodak paper, which I will probably use now to make proofs. So I decided it would be worth it to try genuine Epson papers and Im so glad I did, it truly makes a HUGE difference. Those other papers were a total waste of this printers wonderful ink. Here are the Epson photo papers I bought here on Amazon as a "starter kit" for this printer: Epson premium Glossy 8x10, Epson Glossy 13x19 and Epson Metallic Luster A4, Here is what I found: Excellent borderless performance on all the glossy papers. And my late mothers portrait came out looking like a high quality lab print on the metallic luster paper with all the grain texture and lighting depth to be expected of a display or gallery style paper! I couldnt be more pleased. My 13x19 prints were of Big Bend National Park at the window at sundown, the printer captured the nuance of the foreground shadowing and contrast while capturing the "atomic" glow of the sunset on the mountains as it softly lit up the inside of the camera, I never thought it would be possible for a home printer to capture this glowing quality in the photo. And what was more remarkable is that this photo was taken with a 5MP Sony Cybershot H1. I never thought this camera could output this quality of print on this kind of printer, but it was fabulous! Second shot from Big Bend (again on A3+ paper) from the same camera was of Santa Elena Canyon on the Rio Grand in the mid-afternoon, which showed a little purple fringing, which this camera is known for, but this print, too, turned out way better than I had ever hoped. Third picture on the A3+ paper was taken with my Canon T1 Rebel of a cluster of palm trees and fan palms on the ground with a pinch of mostly sunny day peeking through in the photo taken in Cozumel, MX. This photo printed out on the large format paper super faithful to the color of the actual day, I am thrilled with the performance. There are less purple fringing artifacts with the Canon than the Sony, so this large format print was particularly crisp and detailed. Here is where I stand on the initial ink tanks after twelve 8x10 prints and three 13x19 prints: All the color tanks are down to about 3/4 except for regular black which is still at 100% since Ive done no text printing yet, photo black is down to about 3/4 also. All the color tanks show a degree of difference between them, obviously, which shows the printer driver is giving you a good idea of the ink usage gradient of each cartridge. The glosser is down to about 1/4. Its true what they say about this printer using the glosser faster than any of the other cartridges, but it is soooo worth it. The glosser cartridge gives lab quality results with these fine papers. I havent tried poster board, or thin canvas or roll paper yet, but they claim it can handle them all. Since the new driver upgrade, however, I dont see how to turn off the glosser usage. When I first installed it, the glosser could be reduced or disabled, now I cant find the option any more, maybe I need to dig deeper to find the setting now. Its not the widest format printer you can buy, but in this price range, its a great starter and I have a feeling its going to work for most of the prints I want to do at home with my photos from my older cameras. This is definitely upping my photog game and Im going to learn to be even better at my craft thanks to what I can finally see in the fine prints from this great printer. Epson has finally restored my faith in their photo printers, anything less than this is just junk! I would recommend this for anyone getting started doing wedding photos, nature prints or portraits, so far, all of the above have been spectacularly well printed on this Epson P400! As an aside, Im still keeping my Epson RX580 attached for general printing and scanning. I will be using the P400 for all my CD printing, too.

Using this for making prints of my scanned watercolors. Works great with watercolor paper, color is true, and printing is clean and quick. Love it.

I have only had my printer a month and loved it so far. I live in a very dry part of the country and learned form experience that low humidity is a killer for this type of printer so i take care not to operate when the humidity drops below 20%, right now its 12%. I also keep a vinyl cover on the printer when not in use.

Good news is that the printer produces high quality prints. Setting up the wireless network in Windows environment was a snap. So what is the bad news? The printer is supposed to be able to print from roll paper and this seems to have been an after thought. Paper jams and gets scratched on edge. Supposedly if you hit the print button once it advances the paper to cut off print, hit print button a second time and it is supposed to rewind to print position and holding down print button for 3 seconds should completely rewind the paper for removal. In reality all three advance the paper roll. Turn the printer off and paper advances 3 feet. And manually rewinding is impossible. I have made 3 36" prints and wasted about 20 feet of paper. If you want a printer that will reliably print from a roll of paper, look elsewhere.

The second install and start up step is to install ink cartridges, Cartridges are installed properly and tape removed , etc. But cartridge door will not seat properly and therefore install process will not continue. DOA. Called Epson and walked thru trouble shooting. They decided that printer is defective. Action is to box it all up and send to Epson and they will ship me a new printer but must charge my card for ANOTHER printer before proceeding. That ties up my card and I didnt like that option. So I contacted Amazon. Amazon is always a dream to deal with. They are sending out a replacement printer asap with no hold charges on my credit card. I just place the RMA label on the box and have UPS pick it up. But I am not happy with Epson. I shouldnt get a printer that seems to have a known problem. And there replacement policy is not world class. So the jury is still out on if printer is any good until I get the second one.

I give it a 4 because it only communicates with Windows and IOS not Android like it had stated. But Great QUALITY pictures, Magnificent!!!!

This printer is absolutely horrible at feeding thick papers - the front load for thick paper is only for poster board. Card stock for greeting cards and any paper 60LB or greater is a problem. Can get it to work about 30% of the time without having to re-feed - and then to top it off, when it rejects a (13 X 19) piece of paper and feeds it through, it puts a dent in the paper from the feed mechanism - dent gets deeper and more prevalent upon each subsequent feed. Color is good. Uses a lot of ink (and time) when installing replacement cartridges. Ill put up with minor problems but this paper feed issue is a deal killer for me when it comes to replacing printer.
