I have long been a fan of canon printers because I use a mac desktop computer. They seem to pair well together. I had to replace an old canon printer that we loved, but after 7+ years it was time for an upgrade. I did my research, and purchased this printer on amazon in Oct. 2017. It has been a MAJOR disappointment with replacing ink cartridges. For years we have been able to refill our ink cartridges using Costcos ink refill services. This method has worked great for years with our old Canon printer. With this model, it has a way to detect when youre using generic refills. It freezes up this printer, and doesnt allow me to use, run our printer. This has created lots of problems in our family, when teens need to print homework assignments and papers on time. Since it is a newer model, a quick run to our local box store to get the Canon Ink Cartridges to refill the printer with, hasnt worked because they dont carry the cartridges for this printer. We can only get the cartridges online. When you need ink quickly, waiting a day or two for shipping doesnt work when you are on a deadline to turn in a paper. There are 5 cartridges to refill for this printer. Even if you are printing in B/W, if the blue ink is out, the printer will not print at all. This has been very frustrating. Its a much more sensitive printer, the tray has to be just right, the ink refilled properly, etc. I can never just hit print without some kind of glitch, that needs to be fixed each time. We have had this printer a year, and it has been a HUGE disappointment. I DO NOT Recommend this printer.

Nightmare from the start. Had to update my Mac to even use this printer and for the last few months all Ive done is try to figure out why my computer freezes for minutes after I print. Canon wouldnt even address it, blamed it on Apple. I am now in the process of finding a different printer. Hours and Hours on the phone with no end in site. Printer printed great, but....

Goes through SO MUCH ink. I am unable to print in draft mode (due to air print feature) and Canon was evasive when I asked about whether there would be a software update to fix this problem / work around air print. The printer also feels fairly cheaply made compared to my previous Canon printer. Lastly, there is something stuck to the underside of th glass that shows up on scans and I can’t access it to remove. The print quality is nice. The wireless printing is handy.

Bought mine in Nov, 2017. (4 months?). I only had a chance to print about 500 pages. Now, the printer keeps insisting there is a paper jam, when there isnt. All I do is click OK, the printer cycles 2 blank pages, and then prints my next page. No paper jam clearing required, and 2 blank pages wasted. I tried different paper (20lb, 24lb, 28lb), but nothing works. Now that I ran out of ink, Im just going to buy something non-canon, rather than spend $65 on new ink. I chose this printer because I liked the idea of a separate cartridge for each color and had good experience with my Pixma MG7120, but after this, Im done with canon. The printer is cheaply made and too sensitive.

The reader should consider that the one star in the rating is because installation instructions are excellent. But after that, it is all downhill. In the first place, the printing is not as crisp as it was with the Canon MG7700 series printer that I had before. More seriously, it often claims to be offline when the display is illuminated. Even rebooting the printer does not change this. Other times, after about 15-20 seconds it will say that the printer is not responding. Yet if you wait for two or three minutes it MAY respond. This is true even for the simplest print jobs like a single page monochrome print. This is the fourth Canon printer Ive owned and the first three were excellent. I cant understand why a new model is brought out when it is inferior to its predecessor. This printer has one negative in common with the MG7700. When it finally goes into sleep mode sending it a print job will NOT wake it up. This is particularly annoying if you are sending it a print job from a computer in another room. One more negative: When it claims to be offline and really isnt, the only way I have found to make it admit that it is online is to scan something. Then, if you send a document it will print that document. But it will also say that there are x documents waiting to print and WILL NOT PRINT THEM. It would not seem to take too much "intelligence" to know that once you have sent something to the printer, you want it to print. Apparently, however, it takes more intelligence than this printer has. Yet another negative: Because this is a relatively new design those who second source ink havent figured out how to make cartridges for it yet. Thus you will pay through the nose for Canon ink.

Needed a new printer for my MacBook Pro after my old Canon Pixma finally died. I have really had great results with previous Canon printers so definitely wanted to stick with the brand. However, this beauty is going straight back to Amazon! Problems include (but likely are not limited to): taking an freaking hour to print ANYTHING, no draft print mode, used nearly half the ink in the starter cartridges just to run the start-up items and print 2 receipts, puts itself in pause mode constantly for no apparent reason (have to resume about 6-7 times before anything prints), will NOT print a pdf that includes a photo. Need I go on? Contacted Canon about the lack of draft printing option and received a very prompt, polite reply that Apple has eliminated the option in some of their recent software updates even though Canon has it in their printer programing. (The replacement printer I bought -from a rival manufacturer- prints draft quality with absolutely no problem!) The only other positive comment I can think of is that what finally does print is nice and crisp-if you have all freaking day to tinker with the pause button and wait on the actual printing. Other than that, I would give 0 stars if that were an option. Amazon needs to list this printer as NOT COMPATIBLE WITH MAC.

Part time printer Full time paper jamming machine I have had this printer for months I have yet to get anything printed without a paper jam. After 3 tonight with no printing, I decided it’s not worth it. Going in the trash.

Upon arrival, the print head would not go all the way to the right to the park position giving an ERROR 5100. I called Canon Support and they said that the unit was defective in both cases. This was my second replacement printer that had the same issue as the first printer. Both were promptly returned to Amazon. Going to take more chance and order one more replacement.

Ink hog. We only print in black, but the machine uses ALL the colors up! Called Canon. They told me black uses all the ink to make black. BS. Also jams paper during every use. Our last Canon lasted 5+ years with no issues. .
