Okay for the price , especially if your printing needs are minimal. It looks amazing but it is the cheapest quality printer I have ever purchased, just don’t touch anything or be careful when you move it around or the cheap plastic will fall apart. The setup process is comical, it is a combination of your laptop, their 2inch lcd screen and the front panel . Other than that this is a great printer. Update 10days later, the wireless stopped working, after spending 3hours with the support I finally gave up and returned this piece of junk.

The TS5120 is my first wireless printer & I wanted to retain the security and control of data provided by a wired USB connection to my main computer for most business printing, but the convenience of occasional print from my other devises wirelessly. Canon didnt make that easy. As mentioned in other reviews, setup instructions seem convoluted. Canon setup instruction manual people: You need to do the step-by-step thing for EACH possible setup scenario all the way through, and ditch the "flowchart" method your doing currently. Another reason that one star was deducted is Canons insistence on continued contact with their servers and marketing stuff to me. One may be able to turn that off, but the default is getting the sales pitches. I would rather pay a little more for the printer & have less expensive ink and no sales pitches! The printer itself is great and has improved features from my old Canon printer, (though the control panel needs a 10-key pad). Congratulations Canon tech people and thanks for providing a good solid product! I love the automatic 2-sided printing and the convenience of wireless printing, though Im still not comfortable with that data flying around in the ether for sensitive documents. Id be more trusting if it wasnt talking to the Canon servers for marketing and I knew more about who has access to the data and why (beyond my own router network).

OK, I will update this to 3 stars because it does work well despite the reasons below I don’t like it. The main confusing thing I had setting it up was enabling the wireless network printing. HINT - There appeared in my list of printers the printer and an XPS version of the printer. You must select the XPS printer in order to send a job to it wirelessly. Im still really disgusted by the flimsy paper tray but I will say it holds more paper than I expected but still very flimsy. Because of that cheap tray, you have to place it on a completely solid base larger than the entire footprint of the printer which I didnt have to do with the older model and also I didnt have to use the top paper feed for envelopes so I was able to use it on a book shelf. My older and cheaper Canon printer was extremely compact and I hoped for the same with this model which looked very similar. I ended up having to keep my old printer to use simply as a base to place my new printer on top of because of that flimsy paper tray which REALLY is annoying. None the less, it works well and print quality is amazing for those cheap cartridges. I had a similar older model which worked fine for my simple document printing needs and prefer having only a single color cartridge and a single black cartridge instead of constantly having to replace the 4 or 5 cartridges "high quality" photo printers require. Since my document needs are simple and I never do photo printing, these cheap cartridges do just fine printing B&W or color documents. I bought this one because it has the same small footprint as my old one, and uses the exact same cartridges which I had a bunch of which left over when the death counter ran out (read below if interested in explanation on the Canon printer death page counter). Boy was I disappointed compared to my older even cheaper Canon. Although this one weighs significantly more, the plastic parts are thinner and more flimsy. The paper tray on this one is so fragile it is a joke! I cant imagine it is not going to break sooner or later and that wont be under warranty because "I" broke it when in fact if it breaks it will be due to poor design on Canons part. Im going to have to handle like Im "walking on eggshells". The paper tray also holds barely half as much paper as my old one did and envelopes must be fed from the top. One of the features I liked about the older model is that input and output including envelopes were all front load and front output so it fitted nicely on a book shelf with little headroom required. This one fails in that regard. You must feed envelopes from top so you need 8 inches headroom. As several people state it is the most flimsy, fragile, and prone to cheap plastic parts youll ever see. About the death counter: The reason I had to replace my old printer which was working just perfectly fine is because Canon decides after a certain number of prints to make the printer unusable because the ink absorber could start overflowing after a while making a mess. This may be a good thing but Im handy at fixing things and even though when I started getting ink absorber warnings, I thoroughly cleaned the ink absorber, and the printer was working perfectly fine it stopped dead working when the predetermined number of prints had been printed. I spent hours on the internet to learn older Canon models had a way to reset the death counter to zero so I could have at least continued using the old printer until I used up the $40+ of ink I still had on hand. No dice. With the new models you cannot reset the counter so you must throw away a perfectly functional printer and throw away your ink stock too! The Canon newer models just stop when a certain number of prints is reached with no possible way to reset the counter. You get a certain number of prints and thats it. (Think Porky Pig - Thats all folks). Still after upgrading the number of stars from one to four, I am considering an Epson Eco printer next time.

I received this printer several days ago after my previous Canon Pixma died. That Canon printer was similar to this one and lasted four years and two changes of location. I did pay about $100 for that unit and selecting this one at half that price did give me pause. After reading some of the other comments I admit to some hesitation but Im happy to say the set-up and printing went as smoothly as possible. There were a couple of situations I had read about-failure of the unit to draw paper and difficulty getting a computer to recognize the printer-so I was on the look-out for those problems particularly. Heres some observations: There are several orange pieces of tape and protective pieces of plastic that must be removed. This includes on the printer itself as well as the provided ink cartridges. And because the printer is mostly plastic it should be lifted and carried from the box by placing your hands on each side of the unit and not on the front and back. When loading the paper, dont overload it and be sure the paper guard is secured properly after loading the tray. Both issues can cause the unit to fail to draw paper. There is a booklet of instructions included as well as a download site to assist in set-up but I recommend using the included DVD if you have a DVD slot on your computer. This eliminates almost all decision-making including accessing your wireless router. In other printers Ive had it was necessary to input the security key for your router which often led to difficulties and failure. No such problem exists here as it will automatically interrupt your router to secure the signal and turn it back on when completed. Before I began, I also deleted all files from my computer that were necessary for the previous printer. I can see where this set-up might have difficulty if previous files are present, particularly if youre installing a printer from the same manufacturer. Now, because I have a slow download speed, the entire set-up took more than 30 minutes and at times I found myself wondering if something had gone wrong as the set-up appeared stuck. But patience was finally rewarded as the set-up concluded. The DVD will print a test page once your set-up is complete to determine if there is printer head alignment issue. This might be another area of issue for some people although its easy enough to run a printer head alignment test if there is a problem. I didnt experience that either. After my set-up I also was prompted by the DVD tutorial if I wanted to print from some other device-for me I wanted that option for my cellphone. That, too, was easy. I downloaded the app from Google play (I have an Android) and again, by following the prompts on my phone it connected immediately to my printer. It was necessary to pick my printer from a list on the phone as well as picking the type of paper in the printer, but those were easy. Ive since printed a number of various pages and not once have I experience a paper draw problem. Certainly if youre going to print a lot of pages and if you do that frequently, then this isnt the printer for you. But if youre like me, who occasionally prints a page or a few pages, then I highly recommend this printer. Yes, the ink is expensive, and what comes with the printer isnt a lot, but at this price for a reliable good printer, go for it. Hope this helps.

I was really excited to get this printer up and running. Perfect for a home office, where I put anywhere from 8-10 hours of work in a week. Well, while it looks sleek, it definitely feels like you’re going to break the thing when you touch it, haha. Biggest flaw (and I’m still trying to determine whether to return it or not...it hasn’t happened often enough yet for me to declare it a huge issue) is that the printer often fails to pull paper in to print. You hear the rubber track wheel turning inside to grab paper, and it doesn’t feed the paper. The printer then errors and says it’s out of paper or is too full, or is jammed. None of which are the case. Then you have to reset the damn thing. Tried troubleshooting with Canon’s site, but like I said, it doesn’t happen often enough yet for me to get really frustrated about. Then again I’ve only had it up and running for 3 days. Hope this review helps!

This does NOT connect to mobile devices via Bluetooth. I am furious because I bought this model specifically because it says it is bluetooth enabled and is compatible with iOS devices (provided its 9.0 or higher). It will not function like this. With the non-sharing restrictions on the wireless in this printers location, bluetooth is the only option to connect this to the iPad in aforementioned location. Dont waste your time.

Geez! What happened to plug and print? Good lord! It took me nearly an hour to get this darn printer to be recognized. Followed directions TO THE T and “device is already registered” so I had to figure it out by myself only to Then get “device not found” message! I did, however, get it printing and I have NO idea what I did! So now that it’s going, it’s AWESOME. I just wanted to share my frustration. (I connect with iPhone/iPad through wireless router)

All the other negative reviews about the setup process almost scared me away from this printer, but Im glad I bought it anyway! I really dont understand what everyone was complaining about. I easily followed the directions and got the printer connected to my laptop and smartphone via WiFi even though I am not super tech savvy. So far this thing seams great especially for such a low price. It may not keep up with heavy duty printing needs, but it gets 5 stars from me because its exactly what I needed for the lowest price I saw when shopping around!
