I bought this because I wanted a great scanner and printer. The scanner on this all-in-one is crap. The ADF cant handle the bank statements I receive and theyre not on super high quality paper. They jam very regularly. The ADF can only handle about 5 pages at a time or it jams. The ADF pulls papers in crooked so most are scanned at an angle. The scans immediately started getting a streak across them when I used the ADF and cleaning the ADF paten didnt clear up the issue. After 30-45 minutes of scanning the device begins to overheat so it slows to a crawl. Double-sided scanning requires manually turning over the papers and using software on the computer to organize them; it often puts them in a PDF at a 90 degree angle from how they are scanned which boggles my mind. Compared to my previous Canon MX922 which died after five years, this is a downgrade even though it cost twice as much! It feels very lightweight, flimsy and cheap compared to the MX922. Overall, it was more frustrating than anything else. I gave up and sent it back; Im buying a Brother instead.

Cannon uses Macs air print as the driver for this printer vs writing their own. The limitations of this driver are very disappointing. I spoke with Cannon tech support before I bought this printer and then again for hours after I bought the printer, trying to figure out how to do the things it advertises as possible. My biggest complaint is the paper handling. It takes multiple steps to print from the rear tray which is required to print anything other than standard computer paper. There are no selections for choosing cardstock or transparencies which I would think a printer advertised as a crafters printer would indicate, especially as it touts being able to print on up to 80# cardstock. The quality of the printing on standard computer paper is fine. Cant say that about everything else. The next step up to print what I want to do within the Cannon family is a pro printer at a $500 price point.

I bought this printer (Canon TS9521C) to print occasional 11x17" and color documents, and I am not sure if Im going to keep it. I was debating between it and the Brother MFC-J5930DW, and I think I made the wrong choice. The TS9521C doesnt have a real paper tray for large paper. You can fold out the "back tray" (really a manual feed) at 45 degrees and the last 4" of the 11x17" sticks off the end and curls down. This makes it inadequate for long-term storage of paper. Also, it only accommodates about 3/8" of paper (100 pages). See photo, with tray open and loaded with 11x17 paper (background other than the printer is darkened and blurred -- sorry it makes the printer look kinda weirdly halo-lit.) I printed the front page PDF of a Sunday New York Times on 11x17" paper (77% scale) and it took 5 minutes (and 21 seconds) to print! On the other hand, the print quality was excellent, better than the color laser Im used to. Normal line drawings without color photographs seem to print at a more reasonable speed (not worth timing). Overall the entire printer feels flimsy. Various doors dont feel like they totally click into place and the front paper cassette (letter only) seems it might be easy to break. Same with the unfolding the accordian door to open the rear paper tray — the plastic-on-plastic sliding is not smooth. Theres something odd about the page order, it seems like by default it prints documents in reverse order, and seemed to flip sheets 180-degrees on alternate pages in a test document. None of that is a big deal. After some soul-searching, I decided to return the Canon so I bought the Brother and now I have them both to compare. The Brother prints the same NYT test page way faster, like a minute or less. The scanner also scans white backgrounds as grey. I’ve included the same image scanned on both. The background on the Canon scans as 11% grey, but on the Brother it’s (properly) 0% grey (100% white). Ive attached images comparing the two scans. (The bw document was printed on a third laser printer. The NYT page scan was printed on the Brother.) The Canon also cannot scan duplex. On the other hand, the Brother is huge, and the Canon is much smaller. But presumably you knew that.

I wish there were more stars to give it! I am an avid crafter and scrapbooker. This printer makes my crafting days so much easier! I love the 12x12 printing feature. It also prints borderless and the quality of the print is outstanding! I doubt if I ever buy another brand.

Im a crafter/artist and I really am enjoying this printer. I LOVE that I can print 12 x 12 papers. Its easy to set up and I love the white color. I do use a lot of colored ink so as with all printers Ive had, I do need to change them periodically and they arent cheap. That said, the colors are wonderful. Ive scanned things with no problems as well. Not super quiet but that doesnt bother me. So far Ive been able to print various paper types-cardstock, canvas, photos papers and cotton. Very pleased so far and would recommend up to this point. Ive had it for a few months now.

In addition their customer Service gets 5 stars, no matter what your problem, no matter how old your equipment that are helpful and professional. This is my 2nd Cannon printer, my 1st lasted 10 years without a glitch. this newer model with the extra tanks and the ability to print only in B&W - two sided printing and scanning were the selling points on this model. So far 4 stars the only reason not 5 is because it is slower than others I’ve used, like at work, but the price and the other capabilities are just perfect. I highly recommend this printer. It also was EASY to install…..

The printhead of my mx922 needed to be replaced, so instead I opted to buy this printer. The ink is much more costly than that of the mx922! I use my printers frequently, so I purchased the printhead replacement for my mx922 (i live outside the US, so I saved on shipping by not buying a new mx922, else I would have).... Would save this printer to print my 11"x17" prints. The difference between the mx 922 and this ts9521c for me is fax capability on the mx922 and paper size of 11"x17" on the ts9521c. The ts9521c also comes with templates that I havent used yet. Print quality between the two is about the same.

This is a solid printer, so far. Ive researched all brands and it lead me to this printer for what I need (print, scan, copy). Set up was easy, just follow instructions. Im not using the wireless feature, Im using the USB option. Tip, make sure you have a printer cable (USB) because it doesnt come with one. I had one from my old printer. I read too many bad reviews during my research where customers got fed up with the wireless not working the way it should. Maybe it does work well, Im not using it. Im not talking about this particular model or even Canon, I mean all wireless printers. I used the CD that came with it to install the setup instead of the online option. Very easy. So far, so good. I printed a pic and a document and it was easy and quick. Well see how this printer works months down the line, but for now, it seems solid. Ink is always going to be expensive, just deal with it or find other options that work for you. Ive read many options in different reviews, do your research. I ordered an extra ink cartridge package for this printer when I purchased it. The ink they give you is only used for setup so you have some to use. I read its only for set up and doesnt last long. Buy extra ink just so you have it on hand when you need it. I would recommend this printer for anyone wanting occasional printing at home. This is what I need it for, simple printing of documents (maybe some photos) at home. Sometimes I even go a month or more without printing. Marc

Check the Canon downloads website. OS14 is not listed. I spent 3 hours with Canon tech support and another one with Mac. They could not get the scanner to work. And this is going to be a pain to ship back to Amazon.

The Canon TS9520 has earned the right to be called the best multifunction printer Ive ever owned. Ive easily owned 20 printers over the years but this is the apex of functionality and ease-of-use. SETUP This is Canon’s weakness and this printer was no exception. After you plug it in, it wants you to run the Canon Print app on your phone to pair via Bluetooth and then do the setup from your phone. It doesn’t work. I got through to the point where the app and the printer were able to communicate with each other but then the process hung up and after about 5 minutes I gave up. I then walked over to the printer’s touch screen and pressed the “settings” gear icon and went into the Wi-Fi settings to set it for my local network. After that, things worked beautifully and I was able to have the printer go out to the Internet and fetch and install the latest firmware update. I wish Canon would ditch the useless Canon Print app and resign themselves to doing the configuration through the touch screen! WIRELESS The wireless printing works perfectly from both my Mac and Windows computers. Even AirPrint from my phone works perfectly. Every time. I replaced a Canon TR8520 and that confounded printer always showed up as “offline” from my Windows computer (while working perfectly from my Mac). That problem is gone with the TS9520. What a relief that Canon has finally worked out this issue. AirPrint is especially slick for printing photos. I loaded some 4x6 paper into the back paper feeder on the printer and then went to my phone and selected a photo to print. Upon clicking the share/print button, the TS9520 immediately showed up as a printer choice and it showed the 4x6 paper in the feeder as an optional printing target. I hit print and about a minute and a half later it was done. The printout was excellent; much better than I expected. I’m also the owner of a high quality photo printer (Canon Pro 9000 Mark II) and I don’t think it could have done much better. I’m very impressed and it’s possible that if the 9000 Mark II ever dies, I won’t bother to replace it now that I have the TS9520. COPYING Both single-sided and dual-sided copying worked great. There is one quirk if you copy double-sided to double-sided: after the TS9520 scans one side of each page through its auto-feeder, you have to lift those pages up exactly as they rest in the tray and place them back onto the auto-feeder for a second pass. This is because the TS9520 doesn’t have a way to pull the pages back in and scan the back sides. It actually works fine though but means you can’t just walk away and copy a bunch of two-sided pages: you have to reposition the paper after the first side of each page is scanned. This isn’t a huge deal and having a paper feeder mechanism to do this for me would add a lot of size to the printer. Copies come out amazingly well. I couldn’t tell the difference between the original and the printed copy. I’m quite impressed. SPEED My 4x6 printed in about 80 seconds which is plenty fast. What really surprised me is how quickly it can print a full sheet of text: 5 seconds. Pages seemingly shoot out and yet the print quality is excellent. I would have expected fast printing like this on “draft” mode but to get high quality prints at this speed was unexpected. I’m very happy with the speed. Even my wife commented “wow, this thing prints fast”. SCANNING Wireless scanning works great. I put in a color photo and hit scan and it then asked where I wanted to send the result. One option was my Windows 10 laptop so I clicked that and sure enough, when I walked back to my laptop there was a popup saying that scanning was in progress. About 60 seconds later my “Documents” folder popped open and there was a new JPG file containing my scan. What’s really neat is that it auto-detected that I was scanning a photo so it sent it through as a JPG. I then put on a text document and it scanned the same way and the resulting file was a PDF. Just what you’d want and without any fuss or manual intervention. INK Usage appears to be about “normal”. I find with Canon, the smart thing to do is buy their XL or XXL cartridges. They cost more but hold far more ink than the regular cartridges. Even though the upfront cost is higher, it’s much cheaper in the long run. SUMMARY I’ve tried to find something bad to say about this printer but it has met or exceeded my expectations in every area (except the unneeded Canon Print app). I bought my Canon Pro 9000 Mark II in 2011 and it is working perfectly 7 years later. Canon makes solid products. The features and results from this printer put it to the top of my pedestal for a multi-purpose option. Thanks Canon!
