This could be the worst product i have ever tried to install. I have an IT background and have setup previous printers in minutes. In fact, the Canon printer I am replacing this with (MX922) was a breeze. It has taken multiple setups on Windows 10, Windows 7 and my iPhone. The actual print out takes about 10 minutes for 3 pages. It will not setup with our Macs. Perhaps I have a lemon, however, these should just setup and go. Additionally, comparing it to the MX922, it is inferior in quality. I will return this as this is a downgrade compared to my previous printer.

I agree with many others who have given this product a bad review. Ink is ridiculously expensive, and just try finding non Canon ink, you wont. WI-FI set up was frustrating, but finally got it to work. Paper tray is too small. I wish I had not wasted my money on this product. Look for something different if you are still looking.

Built very flimsy and unreliable. When copying multiple pages, the printer pulls into scanner multiple pages, in various angles, ruining the pages and crumpling original documents. Only one page can be scanned or copied at a time and even with this, it needs to be done with a computer for best results with the application vs over Wi-Fi as this often results in issues with the final product. Another very frustrating fact is that the printer won’t turn on automatically when you print to it. You have to manually turn it on then you can send print jobs via AirPrint or computer. To get to the ink is a very odd and annoying angle. The only USB port is also in the back of the printer. The paper port is small and flimsy. Everything is extremely flimsy and does not snap back in place properly. The way it is built is highly frustrating and not conducive to a good finish in the final product.

I havent put this thing through the card stock/ shipping label rigors yet, but Im already impressed with it. The size is perfect. The old PIXMA MX922 took up an entire end table, this little jewel fits on a shelf in my bookcase/ closet. With plenty of room leftover for spare paper. The look of it is splendid, I leave the control panel out at an angle that you can read from above, it just looks great, even with the paper support tongue sticking out at you. The MX922 looked like a crash landed spaceship, flashing little tiny messages that you have to squint to read. Not anymore, I can stand back and easily see what it is demanding of me. The laptop setup was super easy, load the CD (or download the files) and just follow the prompts. The phone, with the Canon app and bluetooth, was even easier. Dont be intimidated! I even entered the Eco menu from the touch screen while I was waiting for the files to set up on the laptop, and cured the "I have to turn it on every time I use it!!" problem. Real simple, choose between "auto power on" or "auto power off." (Yes, I read every review I could find, I dont just up and buy something that I rely on in my business and personal life as much as I do a good printer. Nothing is more frustrating than desperately needing something the printer refuses to spit out.) Another common complaint I immediately got over is the flimsy plastic construction. Im actually glad Canon didnt load up on the extras to turn this into a battle implement and it shows in the price. If you want something you can jump up and down on, then come off your hip with it. Open your purse wide. (Griping about an $89 all in one, really.) Yes, this bad boy probably drinks ink but dont they all? Would you prefer going back in time to the pharmacy, dropping off a roll of film and waiting a couple of days? There are probably more ink efficient printers but there is also trade offs, such as photo quality. Ive owned every brand and nothing compares to the exquisite photos that most Canons can produce, especially coming from an all in one. Now, if I had only gotten this free in exchange for my honest review, I would be totally enraptured. I guess we can settle with completely satisfied.

I like the printer. I appreciate the smaller size. I replaced a MX922 that died with an error B200. While the 922 was easier to install and use, it overpowered the small space I have. Like others, I had a very difficult time installing this printer on Windows 7. It installed without any difficulty on my Windows XP machine. Directions are basically useless for the novice installer. Installing the drivers was the problem. Consistent errors when the driver zip file tried to unpack using the install CD. I tried manually downloading them and still received errors. Finally I used Win Zip to manually unpack the file. After the files were unpacked everything installed ok. Even the CD now ran without error. I have not tried to connect wireless yet. I have one printer connected via Ethernet cable and one connected via USB. Both are working good. Print quality is great. This one moves at the same speed the 922 did. I havent done photos yet and will comment later when I do. I am at a loss on how to print envelopes, there is no directions anywhere on how to do this although the tray has an image of an envelope - so I assumed it can do them. No mention online or in the manual about it. So, while I would give the install one star, I give the printer 5 stars. Also-do not expect Ink Jet printers to last more than two years, especially if you use aftermarket ink.

Great printer. I can scan and print super easily from my Mac OS X and iPhone right out of the box, no driver installation necessary. I bought this to replace my Canon MX860, which has been a workhorse for the last 12 or more years. It still works great, but there are only very basic Mac OS X drivers available for the MX860, and no iOS support, although Windows support is still full featured. Kind of a shame to get rid of a printer that still works perfectly, but the new features of the TR8520 are just so much more convenient. Photo and picture quality is excellent, print speed is good. Document feed and flatbed scanner are excellent. The main paper tray is kind of chintzy. It is two pieces, so you can load letter as well as legal paper, but the two pieces come apart too easily, and then dont stay together so well. Overall the printer is lighter and smaller than the models it replaces, and the only thing I lose is the duplex scanner. The build quality feels cheaper than older printers, but it seems to do everything just as well. I expect it will hold up long term, it just doesnt feel as heavy and solid. A duplex scanner would be nice on this top end model. Ink doesnt last very long. Ink is really expensive, and no aftermarket ink cartridges seem to be available yet, unless you want to refill it yourself. I would buy this again for the print quality and multi-platform support, which I have found lacking in other brands.

I am sorry I bought this printer! I print a lot of material and the initial supply of ink ran out. When I checked to buy a new supply I found Canon changed cartridges so my old ones do not work. To buy a new 5 cartridge supply was $65! I feel that I have been cheated by Canon. Also the new cartridges spit a lot of ink all over even when you follow the printed instructions for opening on the cartridge package.

I am on the fence, because it prints good and for me I was looking for something with a low profile which this is. Its not to large that it cant sit on the corner of your desk where its handy but not taking up to much room. What I dont like about it is that its not a user friendly printer. I am struggling with get it to scan, and for some reason wont print from Window Photo View. I had gotten it, took it work and only could get it to print from Micro word, but it would not scan or print from Window Photo Viewer. Took it home, and played with it when I did not have the distractions of work. Got it to work, but I think the issue had to do with the Wfi part. I am using a cable because the wireless does not work well. Also, when you try using scan from screen on the printer, can not get that work either. Nice feature is scanning directly to a SD card, but again why they could not make it a USB?? Also, it makes everything in PDF format, but cant find a JPG setting. Has allot of setting, but ones you think would be there is strangely not there. But I guess you get what you pay for?

FYI FOR MAC UERS: There are no separate drivers for this printer for the Mac OS so it means you need to set up via AirPrint. The downside to this is that some options are grayed out, most notably the DRAFT option. I print in draft all the time and am finding that others noted this in the reviews after I purchased it. Ive tried everything I can including upgrading my OS and re-adding the printer over 10 times. So now I have a printer that prints great when I need it to but also dumps photo black ink with each black and white printing I do. Ive had it about a month and already have a low ink warning which is shocking as it would take months to go through a tank on my old Canon printer. Out of the box I also had connectivity issues and should have returned it then but thought I could work through those...regretting that one now.
