Ive had quite a few Brother printers over the years. Ive been very happy with each and every one, this L5500DN is no exception. Even extracting the printer from the box is a very pleasant process. This particular machine has been enclosed in a plastic bag; I simply had to pull up on the bag and the printer came right out. These devices can get quite heavy, but, using the bag made the task much easier. Setup was a snap. I plugged in the power cord, clicked in the Ethernet cable, powered it up and it was ready to go. It grabbed an IP address and even the software for my Mac was a breeze. It discovered the printer immediately and in about a minute (for me, I have a fast Internet connection) the printer driver had been installed and is ready to go. Im very excited about the 40+ PPM throughput of the printer. You will notice a difference if you have an older/smaller machine. The next thing that was a BIG plus for me was that it will do two-sided to two-sided via the platen. No putting the paper back in to get the 2nd side printed. (Yes, itd be great if this would function using the ADF), but, even using the platen, its so much easier. I really like the idea of the 850 toners. Up to 8000 pages per toner, compared to the 3000 for the TN-660s. Nice improvement. I was not thrilled about having to buy another different toner, until I discovered the difference in capacity. This is very helpful. I wish the extended paper (optional) drawer wasnt so expensive, or, I would purchase it. My wife is a teacher and she makes a lot of copies. This printer is going to be a blessing for her. Overall, this is a solid built machine and one I hope will function great for the foreseeable future. Thanks Brother!! You did great!

UPDATE: 12/17/18 - this printer was doing so well. Now, though, normal printing results in ink splashes on the page. We think it might have something to do with a defective toner cartridge, but Im so disappointed. Ive owned ink jet printers forever. I print very little, so ink dries up and then it ruins the little nozzles that spew out the ink... Plus, I just hate the ink jet printer market after having worked at a printer manufacturer for 15 years. I also want to be paper free; but there are some things that I still must print, alas. So after burning through my last ink jet printer, I decided to spend a little more and go with a laser jet. My experience with LJ printers in the workplace has been that the ink lasts longer, print quality is generally higher, and you dont sit around waiting for the dang thing to warm up every time you do want to print something. This little Brother printer has a footprint that is smaller than my previous Canon. The paper tray holds twice as much paper. The print quality isnt *perfect, but it will do for my purposes. The only thing is that its black & white. But who cares? If I need high end printing done, I generally go to a copy place anyway. This is a fast printer, too. It prints front & back of page with no problem. And I vaguely remember that someone had a comment on how loud the printer is... but to me its much quieter than any ink jet Ive ever owned. Im keeping it. I dont imagine Ill have to replace these as often as Ive been replacing my ink jet printers. So Im a happy camper.

I am so pleased with this printer. It is a replacement for my previous brother which I had for years and used it continually until it literally went "kaplunk/" Very smooth, very fast, touch screen controls. Excellent quality output with very little effort. Highly recommended for home or small business.

Spent 45 minutes on the phone with Brother trying to resolve issue with ink splashes printing at top of document pages. They said the issue isnt fixable and to have a nice day. Will be returning this printer tomorrow.

We run a 40 unit motel and do copying and faxing for the community. So far, this had done all that we want it to do. Bought an extra tray so we can do our legal receipts and normal printing from the same printer. We also fax from this by using the scanner to scan to our email which is then sent to an internet fax service. Has a great shortcut feature that lets us preset which computer it goes to. The automatic document feeder for the scanner has so far run flawlessly with no double pages or mixed pages being drawn threw.

we bought this to replace a high end HP small business class printer. We installed on a not simple network. Without my computer nerds help, I had it up and running and scanning, and emailing in about 15 minutes to all network machines. Prints and scans no problem. Cant beat the price for as easy as it was to install.

I bought this for our office. 3 of us have them and we love them. Even for the size, Id seriously considering purchasing this for home use - going to look and see if they have it in color print!

I love Brother and have owned several. I broke down and upgraded to this unit for my home office. The manuals show icons on the printer screen for Wifi, but this printer DOES NOT HAVE WIFI ?!@! It only connects via Ethernet or USB. Total junk and is going back to Amazon, very disappointed.

This is my 4th or 5th Brother Printer/Scanner/Copier in about 15 years. I used them when I was running a busy law office. Now I have this one in my middle school classroom and it works like a champ all day long. It scans to my computer or a thumb drive really well. Duplex never fails. Kids use it, I use it, even teachers next door use it. It never jams, gets tired or takes time off. Unlike me...

This printer worked for a week, then spots started appearing on paper, worked with Brother and they said we probably damaged it. I stated there is toner leaking out, then they sent me a new cartridge. There is still a shadows on the page. I am trying support again, but this whole experience was poor. Been using printers from Xerox, Lexmark and HP for years and never experienced problems like this.
