I ordered this printer on August 10, 2017. It was difficult to get it to work with our computer network, Nether I nor our office tech person was ever able to set up the printer to wirelessly print from my laptop or Apple phone. I decided to turn the printer off for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend on November 22, 2017. It will not turn back on. I have tried different outlets but it is dead. I passed the date to return to Amazon and now I am stuck with Brother. I thought that I bought the extended warranty but did not. I have not been able to successfully contact anyone at Brother to fix this problem. I now have a piece of junk paperweight that I have to clear from my desk. Thanks for nothing.

Loved my past three or four Brother laser printers. Reliable, fast machines, few issues. And when the toner cartridge was running low on one of them, I kept printing until I decided when the print quality was too light. Only then would I replace the cartridge. This model MFCL2710DW however will not let you print when the toner goes low even though the quality of the previous print is fine. I found this workaround online and it allowed the machine to continue. This took a few tries but eventually did work: Open front door of printer (to reveal the cartridge mechanism) and “Front Door Open” will flash on the monitor. Good. Next, press STOP/EXIT and CLEAR at the SAME TIME(quick press) Immediately after, press CLEAR once again. A menu called RESET MENU will appear. Click the DOWN ARROW until you see TNR-STD Click OKAY Click UP ARROW To Confirm the reset

I am on my third Brother printer for the home office after purchasing this item. My other printer didnt die, it is still going strong by the way, but I wanted to get a printer that had duplex printing (back to back printing), plus had the capability for Apple Airprint and other wireless capabilities. When I checked around, it appeared that Brother had resolved the main complaint I had with the previous model, which was the noise. The older printer would make the lights dim and would make noise I could hear through several rooms (not good when working late at night). I jumped when I saw this printer for a really low price on a random day after looking at this model for a while (the kind of price that will make me skip eating out for a week, but not cause me to lose sleep). I am really happy so far with this printer. 1. Whats in the boxcscart_ You receive (in an incredibly well-packed box) the printer, plus a CD of drives and some printed information. 2. Aestheticcscart_ This is similar to other Brother printers. It is fairly compact, and takes up a fair amount of space, but it is not bulky at all. The navy grey color at first seemed strange compared to the usual Brother color. However, it seems ideal now because in my office it is not a large black box soaking up space and it is a bit more neutral. Otherwise, this is a really nice looking item with a minimalist appearance. Gone are the large buttons with a green glow. Like most things these days, the glow when used is blue. 3. Usecscart_ The first big test was the set-up for this item. Literally, I removed it from the box and plugged it in (following the quick-guide) and then placed the printer cartridge in, setting the time date and other vitals. I printed a test page, which demonstrated the duplex ability (awesome) and the rather quite nature of this computer. It is much quieter than my previous printer (going to my office now!). Although there is the CD drivers, I prefer that latest version so I visited the Brother solutions website and downloaded the drivers there. In the process, I received a new version of the scanning software as well. You can use this as a completely wireless stand-alone printer, but I connect it via an ethernet cable to my router for ease of use. However, I have no had any networking issues thusfar and I would imagine if this was used as a stand-alone printer it would be fine. After installing the drivers, my printer was visible on the network and without any effort was visible as a Airprint device for my Apple devices. In other words, after a minimum of effort, I was able to print from the promised sources without any issues. Plus, the family laptops recognized the printer on the networks and had no issues. As to the print, this provides a nice print as I would expect (plus you can play with the settings depending on the need). It is stated that the cartridge provided is good for 700 pages which isnt significant but enough (and ironically though I wanted a better printer, my printing needs seem to be declining!). The duplex is a very nice feature. This prints the page and then pulls the page abck in for the reverse side on the same page. A simple feat relatively, but so handy and missing from my previous printer. Since this is a multifunction, there is printing, copying, faxing and scanning. As to faxing it works fine, and you can insert the multiple pages into the feeder for ease. Scanning works well as expected, even with multiple pages. In fact, it is better at feeding than my previous printer. The software is easy enough to use and is such a valuable thing to have. I hardly ever use my flatbed scanner now except for photo projects because of the scanners ease of use. The best feature of the printer is that is quiet. From the actual printing jobs, which are of course audible, to the after print fan job, this is MUCH quieter than previous iterations. In fact, there is no post-print 20 minutes of hearing a slight hum of the fan. The printer goes to sleep much quicker and is far better than before. Overall: I cant comment yet on the overall longevity, but so far I am thrilled with this printer. It is amazing how little (relatively) money can purchase something that costs tens of thousands of dollars to duplicate years ago. This is a powerful little device and quite versatile. A very worthwhile purchase.

When it works, its great. Ive had this printer for about 2 weeks, and during that time, I have had this computer print as expected only once. This was intended for occasional household use. I work from home and expected to use the scanning/copying function more frequently than the print function, but also needed a reliable printer as occasionally I print items while on the phone and cant be futzing around with error messages, etc. Initially, I opted for the wireless connectivity. I soon noticed that every time I sent a print job, it was mysteriously not connected. Ill just say that Ive seen "Check Connection" when I close my eyes and try to sleep. (And dont get me started on that pathetic LCD screen.) After growing tired of rebooting and resetting the Wi-Fi connection each.and.every.time I sent a print job (and fielding the wasteful printed status reports during this process), I finally reluctantly decided to go for a hardwired connection and moved the printer directly next to the cable modem (owing more to a short ethernet cable). Unbelievably, the "Check Connection" error was still a constant irritation. Deep sleep was another ridiculous struggle. Supposedly this thing should be aroused from its deep sleep when a print job is initiated or when a button is pressed on the unit. Apparently mine was a bit fonder of its deep sleep than other units because print jobs would queue, buttons would do little more than beep back at me... I tried a scan function once to wake it up, and while that worked, my old friend, the "Check Connection" error popped up after "Deep Sleep" went away. There were a few choice words I had with this machine after that. At the end of the 2 weeks I had this, it printed more of the status sheets from my multiple attempts to reconnect than it did actual print jobs I sent from my computer. Ironically, when I opted to process my return and was trying to print the label, it printed without issue. Go figure. I will say that the duplex feature was a plus, though something I personally did not have a chance to use on this machine. Scanning was a breeze using the Brother program, even on my phone, and helped me to quickly scan multiple documents. When I was shopping around for a printer, the replacement toner cost for the Brother machines was competitive as well. In the end, however, this just didnt cut the mustard for me.

Printer completely stopped printing after a year and a half. Factory reset, re-installed all drivers twice, wireless and wired connections, nothing worked. Brother customer service employee told me that they hadnt heard of this happening before, but only gave me the number of a far-away Authorized Service Center and said I had to pay to have it looked at and repaired myself, or buy a new printer. Had heard that Brother printers were supposed to be reliable. Guess not. Will not be buying another Brother product again.

I have the same complain as several others mentioned. Once the toner reaches a certain level, this printer will stop printing, while the print quality is perfectly fine and it could still print more. It will NOT allow you to print until the toner is replaced. This is a dirty trick to make you buy new toners quite often. If you think that the print quality will indicate the toner quality (as in most other brands) and the printer will continue to print, you will be disappointed when printer stops in the middle of some important printing.

4-9-2018, Revision A: Poorly thought through design (if you can use "design," here)... Problems: --- The AC cord is permanently attached and is not a std computer cord (not removable), and its too short (less than 3Ft), to make it to my computer power strip. --- The issue is that you cant unplug your old Brother Printer and put this in its place. I had to take apart my home office to access the next nearest AC plug (via a power strip to get all the way over there)... ========== Because of the above, this printer took more than an hour to physically install it (this does not include the clean up time)... --- USB is supposed to auto update and connect the to printer. It tried twice. It did not work. I had to mess around with this for more than 1/2 hour. --- The LCD display cant be seen. Its a non-back-light type. If I place my head over it, the display is clearer, but I block the light - Still cant see it. ========== I purposeless bought the non-touch screen type, because they never work and have even more narrower viewing angle. I cant access the angle the touch screen, if I had it. I can only access from on top. ---- Printed paper come out in the front. I like this except its almost like its stuck inside the printer. I expected it to come out the top, like all printer like this do... --- The supplied disk was rejected by Windows 7 Pro, reported not comparable. --- Supplied disk, drives "Pro????" required you to allow program to regularly connected to the internet, and sell, bug or otherwise annoy you (Im on WildBlue (slow BW limited internet, 12GB per Mo, we run out of internet 1/2 through ever month, from background windows and other devices, that suck inter down without you consent or control), and here is another internet vampire - I said no... Ive not yet used the FAX (I need this), or copier, etc =================== I eventually I got it to work. What a piece of junk... Pluses: Its gray and black It dont have a touch screen It has USB (saves LAN connection)

So far so good, would have given it 5 but Ive only owned for a day. Set up was a breeze. I highly recommend setting up wired and wireless connection with the printer USB cable(not included) connected from printer to Pc to ensure a smooth installation. Once complete, you dont need the wired connection. I also downloaded the brother app on my android.. works great! The printing is fast as advertised. ** during the end of the installation, youll be asked if you want to set up fax also. I said yes even though I have no land line. I plan on adding later so I can fax from home. Wonderful printer!

I bought this to replace a much less expensive HP that was an ink hog. Expensive, but still printed reliably if new ink was inserted. I spent twice as much money on this thinking my life as a student would be so much better. This machine will not make a copy unless it is connected to the network. Why isnt connected to the network, you may be wondering? I HAVE NO IDEA. Each and every time I need to pint ANYTHING I find that it has disconnected from the network. You might be saying to yourself, well reconnecting should be no big issue but it is. In fact, every time this happens, I spend a minimum of 45 minutes trying everything under the sun to reconnect it because the same strategy doesnt work every time. The network repair tool has to reconnect it, or I have to wizard it together as if it was brand new. It is literally never the drivers, but that is what the tool claims half the time. Who knows why it cant even manage making a copy without connection. Im so distraught right now, I have a final paper I am trying to print for class, crying as I write because I cannot for the life of me figure out how much a reliable printer to have at home is ultimately going to cost. My sanity is affected by this machine and yours will be too. Dont buy unless you like destroying printers that you paid too much for with sledgehammers because you will reach that point with this machine.

Spend you money elsewhere. This printer worked great for a few months until it didnt. I have had two serous issues with it in about 8 months of very light use. Power Spikes About five months in it started tripping the breaker in my den when it would power spike just before a job. I live in a brand new high-rise with new electrical that is up to code. After digging around on forums I found that I had two options--I would either have to have changes made to the breaker box by the apartment building, or I could buy an extension cord and plug it in the hallway where the circuit can handle a high load. I opted for the extension cord, which is less than ideal but simple enough and not too terribly inconvenient for me. As this problem didnt start immediately, I suspect it has something to do with cheap electrical components that are no longer functioning as they should be. Also, be aware that, according another reviews call with Brother customer service, even when functioning properly this unit will produce a significant spike that may leave you in the dark. Deep Sleep / Lost Wifi Connection With an extension cord snaking in to the hall each time I needed to use the printer, all was relatively well for a few more months. That is until one random day when the printer turned Rip Van Winkle and fell into deep and inexplicable slumber from which it stubbornly refuses to wake. I spent half a day reading forums and reviews looking for a solution (including some promising ones on here) but was ultimately unable to get the WiFi working reliably. After confirming its well past the excepted return window, I just ordered a 10 printer cable and came here to warn others who might be enticed by the units low cost and (seemingly) largely positive reviews. Summary My Wifi printer will now have an extension cord snaking into another room and require plugging in a printer cable to print. This is not what I had in mind when I put this in the cart. And the Deep Sleep issue is a very well documented online, and youll find hits for it across the internet EXCEPT in Brothers available online support. Go figure. That Brother is intentionally ignoring a well documented issue plaguing a number of its customers should be reason enough to pass on this model, and to seriously question the brand.
