Expect it to work like all my old QL printer. No. it is bad. Once it passed the return period, this thing acts. I thought it is due to paper issue, but nothing helped. I purchased QL-820NWB to test if that is my label file issue or paper or such. Result is that, the QL810W is trash. Everything works flawlessly in the QL-820NWB. Too bad, I cant return this trash anymore.

It takes about 1/2 hour to compile and prepare a mailing list of about 100 names. Unheard of! Then it prints and cuts rather efficiently, but watching the screen preparing label 1, preparing label 2, preparing label 3 (thats about 2 mins right there) - the average person would shoot themselves to end the pain or be committed to a mental institution. I do believe it is a brand new item from around 2004 - 2008 (?) based on packaging and printed materials inside - but I cannot believe that even back then a product could be this slow at merging names from a Microsoft Access database. The labels (off brand MUCH cheaper) or from Brother have horrendous branding on the back side to confuse our customers. They should be blank on back side not an advertisement. I am very disappointed but dont want to go through the time consuming Hell of returning it and finding something else.

I am a big, big fan of Brother products. You call for tech support and they pick up the phone in 3 rings and really work hard to resolve the issue. I have owned to previous versions of their label makers and this was my first wireless on. I currently have 5 printers on my wireless home network. Anyway, for some reason I could not get the driver to work correctly and with a quick call to tech support we were able to get this printer working flawlessly. The wireless aspect allows me to not have to clump all my printers in one area around my one PC. I would highly recommend this printer.

I use this printer for personal use at home. It was pretty straight forward setting up the printer and connecting it to my Wi-fi network. I did have to initially connect it to my computer using the included USB cable, but once untethered the wireless features work flawlessly. The labels are easy to load and no paper is wasted when loaded correctly. The printer is very fast and the print quality is excellent. The automatic cutter is fast, however, the label is ejected out with some “force”, so placing the printer to close to the edge of a desk or stand will have you picking the labels up off the floor. I like the P-touch programs that can be downloaded from Brother and used with the printer. Although I haven’t used it yet, I do like the feature of being able to print Red and Black print on supported labels. I don’t like that I have to remove the labels when not using the printer and making sure to reinsert the protective sheet back in the printer when not in use. I wonder how many people have thrown the protective sheet away because they didn’t read the instruction sheets? Maybe Brother should print on the protective sheet not to discard or throw it away! Trying to determine which labels to use with the printer can be confusing since Brother has several label printers and the label rolls look alike. So far I have purchased a box of Brother address labels which work fine with the QL-810W. While this has nothing to do with the quality of the QL-810W printer, the iPrint&Label app for the iPad is pretty lame for printing address labels. I would give the printer five stars if I didn’t have to remove the labels and reinsert the protective sheet when not using the printer.

Great little unit! Ive got this directly connected (USB) to my Mac, and Im using the P-touch software from their website. I created a mailing label template, incorporating my company logo. The software appears to offer integration with the Mac OS X address book, but I havent spent much time figuring out how to make that work yet. For now, Im just printing individual mailing labels as needed, which is the main reason I purchased this printer. Until now, Ive been putting an envelope into my Epson Artisan multi-function printer any time I needed to mail something out. It was a minor hassle - doing so required replacing the paper in the tray with an envelope and then putting the paper back in the tray once I was done printing the envelope. With the label printer, I can now print ad-hoc labels w/o messing with my larger printer. Plus, I can use the labels on larger envelopes. Creating a label with an Avery template then swapping out the paper with address labels was an even bigger pain, especially for a one-off label. Having a stand-alone label printer has made the drudgery of admin/office work a little easier. Ive been considering one of these for a long time. Should have pulled the trigger a while ago, though there are more options on the market now. This version, the QL710W, is an AirPrint capable unit that will work with iOS devices. I dont know that Ill ever use in that mode, as all my paperwork processing happens at my desk, but its nice to have the feature if I do choose to take advantage of it. The only negative I can think of in these early days of use is the print quality. The printer will "blob" parts of images and text. Not enough to make the labels unusable, but clearly enough to notice. Its obvious the labels Im printing come from a label printer.

The wireless is good. Setup was a little weird but it worked out. The demo labels printing does not come out dark black. The software is kind of useless. I dont know why linking with your address book should be a cluster, or even having a separate address book within the app. Hmmmmm. Maybe its great for an eBay seller or some third party app that creates the label design and inserts the address. Maybe if I spend more time watching videos, but it gets to a point where the mount of work to create the label defeats the purpose of convenience .

I have wasted easily 10 ++ours in this love hate relationship when it works..its so convenient to tag my merchandise. I am specifically having issues making Barcodes. The bars are sometimes GREAT ..but about 50% of time randomly the bars are thick and too close together...making it impossible to SCAN! I spent 3 hours on phone with Brother team trying to resolve..they are all IN Dominican Republic? They did help some...but still this machine has barcode printing issues

I bought this label printer almost a year ago, and I FREAKING LOVE IT!! It does have its shortcomings, i.e. monotone graphics, but youre not going to get a dream machine in this price range (I did buy this refurbished. I see no reason to pay for it new, based on my experience). I use my QL-710W several times a week, if not daily, and for a wide variety of applications. Its probably one of the most utilized devices in my home office, and I cant reiterate enough how much I value it and would buy it again.

A well-designed and functionally adequate label printer. Setup, if the directions are carefully followed, is relatively straightforward. However, I have two issues: one with the firmware update process, and one with the available Android application. 1) Firmware updates must be done with a USB cable connection. This is difficult if the printer is normally positioned in a place away from the host computer. Repositioning the unit just for firmware updating is a pain. Wireless firmware update should be enabled. Another silly aspect of the firmware update process is the small window displayed while the updating is taking place. The small window shown says "the unit is operating". What the heck is THAT supposed to mean? It should definitely be reworded, since if the unit or its connection is disturbed during the firmware update process, the unit may become scrambled and useless. Beware! (Maybe it would be good for Brother to hire a native English speaker to review such prompts, ya think?) 2) The Android software functions well, except that only ONE entry from the Contact List can be selected and printed at a time. The Android contact lists "groups" is not accessible to select an entire group of contacts, and/or the ability to select multiple contacts for a batch print is lacking. The Android software should be upgraded to enable selecting (checking) multiple contacts at one time in order to easily print a "batch" of address labels. Other than those complaints, its a good unit.

Ah the joys of Amazon dynamic pricing. Price is "50%" today, though I only paid $10 more a week ago. The WiFi setup is not hard if you understand how these things work, and know what security protocols your router is set to, the SSID, WEP/WPA password, and so on. Even with this information, it is pretty essential to connect via USB to configure the printer. The configuration setup wizards on the setup disk will probably work, though they could make the documentation a heck of a lot easier to understand. The Windows P-Touch Editor software is overkill ... but not too difficult to use. Then again, it may be essential to make barcodes or cable wrap labels, etc.. The Android (and iOS) Apps, however, are really pathetic -- reason enough to lose 2 Stars. The basic framework is there, and if you have WiFi working from your PC to the printer, then connecting via the same WiFi LAN from your phone or tablet is not likely to be a problem. The Apps seem to have very few templates, cannot import templates from P-Touch Editor PC or Mac, and, despite the release notes, cannot generate QR (2-D) barcodes. Importing a photo into a template is flaky (the photo displayed upside down for cropping, and then printed sideways). There is a "Hammermill" branded free App in the Play store which can print to many brands of WiFi printers. It fround my QL710W and works! Similarly, the basic Windows driver lets you print from "any" windows program that is able to accept the "tiny" page definition (2.4" wide by quite a long "height" (length)). I doubt you can do variable length. Brother USA Website help pages FAQ have no helpful information on the Apps, so I hope new versions are released soon that fix the most obvious missing features. It is possible to download the developer specifications document PDF from the Brother website which explains the Raster binary codes used to print. This means that custom Apps can be written which will be completely independent of any Brother drivers or Apps. Anybody have ideas to co-develop? Im tempted to remove yet another Star due to the limited selection of label tapes available (there should be more samples included, especially to compare the removable and the "film" type labels). Ive just ordered full rolls of these (~$30 each), and hope they are worth the money. Most photos show the label printed face-up -- thats sadly false. The print head is down in the machine, so the output is always face down. Doh!
