The only way to get 144 Hz from these monitors is to use a DisplayPort cable, however ASUS doesnt see fit to include these in the box, even though Ive read some reviews and answered questions that claim otherwise. This is probably because this particular model (VG248QZ) is lumped in with two different monitors on one page, with reviews and questions from each combined into one large pool with information that doesnt necessarily relate to every monitor on the page. This wouldnt be a problem, except I didnt know the cables werent included until I opened the box, at which time I had to go to a local store to buy the cables. Long story short, 7 different stores were either sold out or didnt carry them, so now Im stuck waiting two more days for prime shipping to deliver new cables. Again, this wouldnt be an issue if there was a "Whats in the box?" listing specific to each monitor. Im rating one star because Amazon shouldnt allow this, and ASUS shouldnt advertise 144 Hz if it cant operate at 144 Hz out of the box.

If you’re on a tight budget I don’t recommend taking the dive and getting this product. I get it, you want that 144Hz and high graphic quality gaming experience at a low cost. But the colors are washed out. At first when I read a few others saying this I thought it was just a rare thing. But it’s not. You’re truly getting what you’re paying for. Save up for a better monitor. This one isn’t worth it.

This is your ideally perfect gaming monitor! Not too big and not too small, at least me for when I’m playing fortnite on it! I wasn’t expecting much since the low price for 1080p with 144 hz refresh rates compared to other brands where it can be on your top $500-$700 bucks but oh I was so wrong! The image quality on this monitor is so sharp that it felt so real! Make sure you use the DVI that came in the box because your standard DVI cable probably won’t make the best out of this monitor. Totally worth the buy and now I’m debating if I want to buy another one for dual monitor setup.

This is offered at a little less than half the price of the ASUS ROG Strix XG258Q 24.5” Gaming Monitor Full HD 1080P 240Hz 1ms Eye Care G-Sync Compatible Adaptive Sync Esports with DP Dual HDMI. In some respects they are very alike, but the XG258Q, obviously, has more to offer (for more $$$). Screen size is nearly identical (24” vs. 24.5”), with a 16:9 ratio. Both offer 1920 X 1080 resolution. This VG248QZ has a WLED/TN panel backlight, with the XG258Q having TN. Twisted Nematic panels are cheap and fast but when viewed at an angle are prone to color distortion. The XG258Q is slightly brighter (400 cd/m2 rather than 350). Viewing angle is the same, as is the response time. The XG258Q has a higher refresh rate, at 240 Hz vs. 144 Hz. (The XG258Q gives its digital signal frequency as DisplayPort:255 ~255 KHz (H) /48 ~240 Hz(V), while the VG248QZ gives DisplayPort:30 ~140 KHz (H) /50 ~144 Hz(V). The XG258Q uses much more power at <65W versus <45W. I would note that the XG258Q doesn’t seem to present the issues with screen color distortions which some VG248QZ monitors have. If you want a gaming monitor, with its quick response, and are willing to sacrifice a bit in performance and color accuracy, this VG248QZ is a good choice. This has gaming speed, which helps your game, while not “wasting” money on the truest of color (which is nice, but not terribly important for gaming). But that’s JustMe.

I use this mainly to play RPGs like Diablo III with a variety of other games thrown in. The display looks sharply detailed and the color matches that on other displays that I have had and used, though it did require some tweaking. It started out with factory specs in the darker range, but it was okay after I tweaked the gamma. Since this is a gaming display, one of the primary points is that it has no lag between fast action on the screen and the commands on the keyboard. There is no blurring or distortion. The only marginal point about how the screen looks is that, from sideviews, it has a bit of a yellow cast. Other than that, there was no visual change across the length and width of the screen for me (no washing out, dead pixels, etc.). In terms of set-up, this was easy except for one point. It was hard to plug in an HDMI cable and, at first, I thought the HDMI port was dead because it seemed to be fully plugged in, but was not. I had to push the cable very hard multiple times for contact to be made. Also, there is a strange unpredictable situation in which the screen has static on start-up if I havent powered it down overnight. Turning the monitor off and on fixes it, but its slightly annoying. Other than the aforementioned issues, Im quite pleased with this displays quality.

To be perfectly clear, I’m not a gamer unless you count a few Microsoft Spider Solitaire games. However, I do love a large monitor with sharp definition since I watch numerous teachings on my computer. The Asus Full Hd HDMI DVI gives me all of that and more. Sound is very good, too, but I chose to install my excellent speakers so have bypassed that feature. This monitor has a superb IPS display and I haven’t noticed any backlight bleed, so everything is perfection for this happy customer. Colors are vibrant, images sharp, and I love the 165HZ refresh rate. Highly recommended.

My son is a very hard-core gamer, and he was extremely excited to get to try this monitor. His verdict? Literally--- "Its amazing!" My own testing of it totally agreed. Just out of the box, the monitor is very nice to look at, and it assembled with complete ease. Its a nice big size. First view showed there were no glilched pixels (no defects or spots that didnt light up). My son says its perfect for gaming because of the ultra-low latency it has, which he says means it responds to your mouse or keyboard commands almost instantly. I could see this in my own tests! My son is using it for game emulation through Dolphin, which he says gamers will understand, and it has greatly reduced lag as compared to other monitors hes tried. When using it to play Smash Brothers, he says the experience was flawless, like playing on a CRT. The resolution is 1080 with a 144hz refresh rate, which is great for high end gaming PCs. The color is lovely---very sharp. The price right now as stated is exactly right, Id say---just what you would want to pay for a monitor of this quality. I highly recommend it.

This thing looks great: bright colors pop, images are crisp, and everything moves very fluidly on screen. Ample picture presets, serviceable speakers, and plenty of ports round out what is a very nice monitor. I realize these rarely come with manufacturer remote controls, and if using the monitor with a pc you would have ample options for remote controlling, but I currently use this on console and adjusting the volume is very cumbersome (I end up using the in game volume controls). Anyhoo, great unit and happy to game on it.
