My first time ASUS product, purchased to use on a recent refurbished Optiplex with advanced graphics. Optiplex provided only VGA and dual Display Ports, so I opted for this VE248Q. Pros: Monitor offers VGA, HDMI and Display Port connections. Cables provided for VGA-VGA and DVI-HDMI (computer-to-monitor) Generous base for the big 24" screen, steady. Control buttons are on the underside, well marked and easy to access (unlike some brands!) Resolution established 1920x1080 at first startup, bright images, crystal clear, no flicker observed. Easy to view from the sides, non-glare matte surface. Internal speakers and a headphone jack. Windows driver cd. Con: Instructions are sparse: a single sheet poster-size newsprint "manual", printed in 32 languages however, You are given a button diagram and just a 2x3" text box with 6 numbered short "instructions" describing the 6 buttons. You are informed what each does without saying what menu or why. Monitor provides a typical OSD (on-screen-display) menu. Back-side of this poster shows you what cables get plugged where (but only in 28 languages, sorry) for those who are plug-wise challenged. Specifications claim the display is VESA wall-mountable, but find nothing in the instructions or backside of the display to indicate this. The ASUS website wasnt of much help either. But if this is not your first smart monitor, all will work itself out, just experiment a little. Bottom Line: recommended, appreciate the display size and quality, and optional connectivity. There are more features available than ASUS discloses. Good value.

I use a laptop as my main desktop computer in my college dorm, but just needed some more screen space to increase my productivity on assignments. My budget was around $100 dollars, and I wanted HDMI and 1080p resolution. From reading hundreds of reviews, this was one of the best monitors I found for around that price. Here are my own observations: Design: I have always trusted Asus, and admired their quality. The plastic on this monitor is no exception. It is very well built and I have no doubt it will hold up for years. The stand is sturdy as well. My only gripe is that the monitor is a little thick, but for the price and age, I cant complain. The speakers arent much to speak of, but a very cool bonus feature. 8.5/10 Picture: Although the color is slightly inconsistent when viewing from wide angles, I love the quality of the screen. Colors are vibrant, accurate, and make for an excellent picture when calibrated correctly. I loved the matte finish, as it reduces screen glare. 9/10 Ports: This monitor has the standard HDMI, DVI, and VGA inputs, with an additional AUX input for the built in speakers (see later). I wish the ports were a little easier to access, perhaps facing out of the back instead of parallel, but this was no issue once I had everything set up. I think the design is great for compact cable management. 9/10 Software: The menus and setting provided, especially for the picture, are simple and easy to use! I found the monitor easy to use. From the PC end, this monitor is plug and play, requiring no real setup. 10/10. Overall: If anyone is looking for an affordable or second monitor, definitely check this monitor (or similar models by ASUS) out! I would definitely consider purchasing a second, although I would buy one without the speakers (they are a little thinner).

My old monitor was growing dim and taking ona green color so it was time for a new one. If you found this from a list of supported freesync monitors you got the wroung thing. This is the VE278Q and NOT the supported VG278 models. This monitor does not support FreeSync. The documentation is pretty poor but its a great monitor for my needs and at the correct price point. I got the one with Display port, HDMI, VGA and Dvi-D dual link. Since it is difficult to find here are the relevant specs: Panel Size: Wide Screen 27.0″(68.6cm) 16:9 True Resolution : 1920×1080 Pixel Pitch : 0.311mm Brightness(Max) : 300 cd/㎡ ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio (ASCR) : 10000000:1 Viewing Angle (CR≧10) : 170°(H)/160°(V) Response Time : 2ms (Gray to Gray) Display Colors : 16.7M Analog Signal Frequency : 24~92 KHz(H)/ 50~85 Hz(V) Digital Signal Frequency : 24~92 KHz(H)/ 50~85 Hz(V) Picture-in-Picture HDCP support As one expects, this is not a monitor for folks that need color matching , high end gaming or passible speakers. This is a value monitor for the rest of us with solid but not great PIP. Low 2ms presence acceptable vertical and horizontal refresh rates and a bright clear picture. I enjoy its size as the 27" diagonal makes reading easier even without my glasses. Games look great on this monitor as do movies and xbox. About the only flaw for me is that the ambient light sensor is at the top center of the screen -- RIGHT where sensible folks put a webcam clip mount so your webcam has to be placed a bit off center. The stand is another pain point as it lacks height adjustment. I would have preferred the cable jacks be in the rear not bottom, of the monitor as it the bottom bezel placement makes the cable hard to emplace, remove and is kind of ugly as you can see the cords at the base of the monitor . The cable management holes are a tight fit if you use three cables. To be polite, the speaker sound is just AWFUL dont use the speakers. Just dont do it. The sound is tiny, distorted and hollow. The sound from the speakers is headache and cringe inducing. I get better sound froma nice che3ap set of headphones or powered speakers. The kit I got had a dvi-d and a vga / dsub cord . It would have been nice to have a DisplayPort or HDMI cable instead. Still I am happy with my purchase. I did not really need speakers I needed a bigger , bright monitor with "good enough" gaming chops.

This is a fairly solid monitor for the price. Here are the things I have noticed with it. Pros: Matte finish on screen works well against glare. Color is good. Monitor turns on very quickly when either monitor or computer is powered on. Easy to assemble base or mount on mounting arm. Cons: Monitor has no height adjustment. Monitor sides and back are fingerprint magnets and scratch fairly easily. Bezel does not have a matte finish so it can sometimes reflect things. Acceptable but not great viewing angle. Short power cord (it might only be 4-5 feet? Power cords are cheap though.) Most of these cons are not a big deal for me because of where and how I am mounting them but to be honest its a little disappointing for an Asus monitor. I got lucky that the reflective bezel and lack of height adjustment arent affecting me. If you have a bit more money to spend or these cons bother you I would look into another model. I have several other Asus monitors that I prefer over this one. Because it is working well for me I will still give it 4 stars but keep the cons in mind.

I purchased this 21.5" monitor to use as a simple screen for my secondary computer. For the price, its the best bang for your buck. You get HDMI, DVI, and VGA all in one. Plus, it has a VESA mount which is important to me because I will be wall mounting it soon. The monitor came well packed inside the Asus box with ample padding. It comes with a VGA, DVI, and power cable. Unfortunately no HDMI cable is included, but they really arent much extra to purchase one separately and chances are you have one laying around. Installing the stand was just sliding it into the plate and screwing in the thumb screw. Very simple and easy. Upon turning it on I felt the colors were a bit washed out, however I turned the brightness down to 50% from the default 100% and it looks much better. The on screen menu wasnt too bad to use, and the buttons were easy to understand. Do note that this is a TN screen, so the viewing angles arent going to be great. However, for my purposes they are fine. Now if youve experienced a better monitor this will definitely look worse, however for the price it is honestly not too bad. Just dont expect it to blow your socks off, especially considering the price. It is just a basic, simple display.

I bought this monitor in an attempt to find a similarly sized 3rd monitor to fit next to my Asus 4k ROG monitor (MG28U). All I needed was a cheap 1080p monitor that would fit on a monitor mount with the same size or bezel that closely matches my 4k for aesthetics. My rating is based purely on use case and picture quality. So Ill start with the bad. I bought the monitor presumably new and the box came damaged. At first sight I figured probably from shipping. Upon opening the box I noticed this monitor was quite clearly used and probably a refurb. The audio cable wasnt in a package and just stuffed in the box with the other cables. There were greasy handprints all over the glossy bezel and on the screen itself. I cleaned that off and proceeded to install said monitor and take a look at the picture. There is a dead pixel all the way on the top closer to the left, and a damage spot dead center on the top. Not a good first experience, but I digress. I bought the monitor knowing it was glossy with cheap plastic. Not a deal breaker, but annoying nonetheless. On the flip side to all the bad the picture is actually quite good for a TN panel. When sitting next to my factory calibrated IPS panel the colors are vivid, there isnt a whole lot of backlight bleed, and the blacks are pretty respectable for a cheaper TN monitor. Having HDMI, DP, VGA, and DVI inputs is pretty awesome. I have used this monitor for my VR rig, at a LAN, on my streaming PC, and even used the VGA input for my 98 box before. For 1080p gaming and those that may want to purchase this for your main monitor it seems the 2ms GTG is accurate to the best of my ability to notice next to my MG28U which is 1ms. I havent actually tried to use the built in audio, but when playing music through it real quick it isnt too bad. Its a monitor speaker though so dont expect anything crazy. The PiP function is kinda cool, albeit IMO a tad pointless. I also like that the buttons are on the bottom for those of us using monitor arms, unlike my MG28U which has them on the back. Super annoying. The only real big deal here is the viewing angle. If youre looking right at the monitor it looks great. Start deviating from that perfect angle and you can see the picture wash out. You can see this in my picture below (product on the right). That is to be expected from a cheaper monitor though and for the money its a really good monitor for those on a budget. My only advice is set your picture preferences right off the bat and dont leave it on default. With all things said I only knocked it one star because it is a pretty good value for the money, my experiences aside.

So I picked up this 27in monitor about 3 days ago (1 day late). So far I am blown away by it. I got it for my (non gaming) PC, aswell as my Xbox One S. I had previously been using a 42" Vizio TV. I assumed for $175 ($190 after tax) that I would get something halfway decent, but what I got was much better than expected. Its a 1080p 60hz monitor. A lot of people are snobby about that and just HAVE to get 1440p 144hz displays. I dont have a need for that, nor do I have the money for that. This thing may not have those bells and whistles, and but let me tell you, the picture looks wonderful. First thing was hooking it up to my Xbox and starting up Battlefield 1. This game looks literally twice as awesome on this monitor compared to my TV. Colors are vibrant, textures just look better, its great. Heck, even the menus looked significantly better! Another thing I noticed right off the bat was the response time. It claims 2ms GTG and I believe it. I feel like Im more in control on FPS games, racing games, and really everything. You see people buying Ben Qs with 1ms response time for 2x the money. I see no need unless you are a competitive gamer that does tournaments for cash or something. This thing is plenty quick enough, and I genuinely felt myself winning more gunfights than before. This thing also has built in speakers, and to be honest theyre just mediocre. However, for $175 most monitors dont even have speakers, and these are good enough for basic stuff. I have a headset, aswell as a surround sound system hooked up to it, so I dont even need them, but if you had to use them theyd work until you could afford an upgrade. As much as I love this display, I have to touch on a couple flaws. Firstly, Ill start with the brightness. This thing is f***ing bright. I mean it hurt my eyes to where I had to take a break. The thing is, when you drop the brightness to a comfy level, the picture just doesnt look as vibrant. Its really a shame, although my eyes have adjusted to it fairly well now. Next up is the text. It just doesnt look as sharp as other displays. Ill kind of excuse this one because I got the 27in and its 1080p, and also because some adjustments in Windows mostly cleared it up. Nonetheless, its still worth mentioning if someone plans on using this for long periods of reading/typing. The smaller size may work better for you in that case. All in all I give this a 4/5. I never give anything 5 stars simply because nothing is perfect. I wish I could give it a 4.5 because it deserves it. If youre looking for a cheap gaming monitor, this is what you want. I highly recommend it.
