So after giving this display a good time to get used to I think I can now properly review it. First thing I noticed is white screens are absolutely dreadfully bright. Being the person who is obsessed with saturated colors, no I will not lower the brightness. Either way that makes this a great display for HDR as it usually has white objects mapped to a special brightness level. Blacks are both great, and disappointing. Great in that you get actual blacks (I game in the dark so big props) but since the dimming zones are decently large you will see the backlight glow around objects on a black background. In games it isnt as much an issue as fully dark screens are uncommon, but on videos it can be pretty bothersome. You wont be forgetting this isnt OLED. The refresh rate is fantastic, and personally the chroma subsampling isnt noticable even when overclocked. Just to be clear, in 4K 120hz mode it will actually do full SRGB instead so it doesnt look any different than normal. It just lacks the extra colors that are only possible at 98hz or below. I havent noticed any IPS smearing or ghosting either so image remains good in high response moments. And can however confirm a few things this display is not good at. First, the panels backlight is not perfectly balanced across the board as it does have some darker and brighter patches which I would say is almost unacceptable at this price. With FALD you dont notice it but that doesnt excuse the fact the backlight is not perfectly balanced. The fan is another thing. If you PC is quite and you have open backed headphones, you may be able to hear it. It is relatively quite but being that most monitors lack this hurts it competitively. The fan also results in an odd warm spot just below it being nearly 10 degrees warmer than the air around it. And worst of all, the fan takes nearly 10 minutes to shut off after you turn it off. And if you turned off deep sleep in the OSD it will never turn off. Another small gripe is the stand. It barely fits on my desk. It kinda feels unsafe with my $2K monitor only millimeters from crashing off the desk. It is VESA certified, but I hear most mounts block the fans causing them to get louder. Its a really hard display to recommend unless you really want true HDR and 4K as beyond that its a real hit or miss for $2000. Id honestly recommend for most people to go with a cheap $300 1440p monitor for the time being and to upgrade when microLED takes off.
