Great server. Use this to run my Plex Media predominantly, and a few various other applications and it works flawlessly. And surprisingly quiet for a Xeon server. Would totally buy this again.

By downgrading the BIOS to version 1.0.0, you will not only gain sleep/wake support (that you shouldnt use anyway) but also enable the M.2 port on the motherboard. This will allow you to install an NVMe SSD and really unlock the potential a device at this price point has. Ive coupled it with a Samsung 970 EVO 250GB and an EVGA Geforce GTX 1050 ti graphics card (both of which running with the stock PSU) and for the money am really pleased with the performance.

I bought this to run a music server. The Xeon is much more powerful than I need, but I found it hard to beat the price by buying separate parts for a server. I installed Ubuntu Server 18.04 on mine, which went smooth as silk. The machine is very quiet. I only ran into a couple issues. * The case is very easy to work with, and you dont need any tools to install drives. However the extra drive I installed, a Barracuda 4TB drive, was just a bit too wide to fit in one of the plastic drive caddies easily. I ended up bending the plastic a bit with my manhandling. The caddies are $25 parts, so be careful with them. * No DVI connector, so you may need an HDMI to DVI connector if you have an older monitor. Why include a PS/2 connector but not a DVI connector? * If you want to install a 2.5 inch SATA SSD, youll need to remove the optical drive. The part to cover over the empty optical drive slot is not included.

I really dont want to write these things High because everybody else will find out how good they are. These are absolutely one of the best priced fast machines built on server technology for anything you add an SSD to this and some RAM and Im telling you its the fastest machine youll ever use hands down. The graphics arent great on it but you can always add a graphics card to it and I guarantee you this is better than most gaming machines built.

The Dell PowerEdge T-30 Purpose built, I would suggest adding RAM to reach 16-24GB, the Xeon CPU processor rocks, the system is very fast and stable despite what normally would be a heavy load even on a decent i7 CPU. This small business/home office server performed so well, I bought another 30 days later to convert into a workstation. I suggest adding a SSD 256GB Samsung 6 GB/sec drive for the file system/operating system files and I point out the buyers should be aware there is only a HDMI video plug and therefore should have a HDMI -> DVI cable handy if needed. The one knock I have on this Tower Server is its black inset Power Button is nearly invisible on its black case. In shaded areas, the user needs a flashlight to locate and use the Power Button. The manufacturer needs to chrome the exterior of the Power Switch to help make it obvious and discern it from the black case. The worse knock on this server is the top two hard drive cages are too close to the power supply to slide in hard drives much less hot swap them out. Is the only way to add hard drives to the top two of the four hard drive cages by first removing the entire power supply? That seems like a total lapse of design and engineering on this product. Very few servers are going to only use two hard drives in the bottom two hard drive cages.

This is being used as a freenas storage system. I run a Plex server and a Ubuntu server off of it as well. I added 16 gb of RAM. The only issue I have is I cant choose which USB device to boot from so if I have a backup drive connected then the system tries to boot from the wrong drive and fails. Have not tried a bios update to see if that will change anything.

Worked fine for our remote office. Has plenty of CPU power (quad core Xeon has lots of oomph). Easy to work in, at least in terms of adding additional drives and upgrading RAM. No real cons to mention. The only oddity I found was the HDDs get mounted upside down in the trays. Has zero performance impact, and it looks weird to me, but thats it.

I bought this for a small business, so the owner could use it as a workstation, but also as a data server for three other computers in his office. I put in a 1 Tb SSD as the main drive, install Windows 10 Pro, and installed the programs the business uses. The owner is very impressed with the speed and versatility he gets from the unit. Pros: Speed, versatility, ease of use Cons: With the XEON processors there is no hyperthreading.

I have this unit installed in multiple dental offices and other locations. It does a great job and I plan to install several more in the near future!

Nice cheap server to get you up and running quickly. Despite it only being able to support 4 HDD out of the box, you can upgrade it with aftermarket parts as you expand and if you look up mods for the older Dell T20. there is a big community for it as well. It doesnt support a fan in the front of the case, so you could have heating issues if the server isnt in a data center. But there are mods for that as well.
